A Mumbai session court on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 100 on Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw for an alleged molestation case filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill. The court imposed the penalty on the cricketer as he failed to file his reply in the matter.

During the last hearing, when again, Shaw remained absent, the court warned him and asked him to submit his response by the given date. Like before, he chose not to submit the reply. So, the judge finally decided to take a step against Prithvi. 'Still, one more chance is granted for a cost of Rs 100,' was the observation of the judge before adjourning the hearing to December 16.

Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan, lawyer of Sapna Gill, made a huge allegation against the cricketer as well. He claimed that remaining silent became a deliberate attempt from the opposition side. "This has been his regular way of handling the case despite being summoned many times," the lawyer told the court.

Gill filed complaint against Shaw alleging molestation 

A controversial situation in a pub in Andheri, Mumbai, on February 15, 2023, ignited the tension between Gill and Shaw. After that, on February 17, 2023, police detained Gill and a group related to a heated moment in the pub. Later, Gill was released on bail.

Though primary investigations suggested Gill and the group were guilty, Sapna came with a different story. According to her version, Gill and his friend Ashish Surendra Yadav invited her and Shobit Thakur for drinks at their VIP table. She further claimed that when Thakur asked for a selfie, Shaw and his friend assaulted him. Gill further claimed that, when she tried to cool down the situation, Shaw physically and sexually assaulted her. With these claims, Sapna Gill filed a complaint against Prithvi Shaw, alleging molestation.

Social media influencer Sapna Gill denied all allegations against her, reiterating that she did not request selfies with Prithvi Shaw.

Gill, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw’s car and handcuffing him, accused Shaw and his friends of sexually assaulting her on Tuesday. She denied all charges against her, reiterating that she did not request selfies with the cricketer. Sapna stated to the news organization ANI that they did not “attack anyone or ask for money.”

“We didn’t beat anyone, nor did we ask for money…or selfies. We were enjoying ourselves, so my friend tried to make a video…they were beating my friend.”

ANI quoted her in a statement.

ANI reports that Sapna’s attorney, Kaashif Ali Khan, filed an application on Monday claiming that Shaw “outraged her modesty” and attacked her with a “deadly weapon.” While attempting to save her friend, she claimed that her private parts were touched and that one or two people hit her with a baseball.

“I went there and stopped them. My friend tried to make a video to show the proof. They beat me with a baseball after I tried to save my friend. One or two people hit me and touched my private parts, and even slapped me,”

she told ANI.

Shaw was purportedly mauled and his vehicle went after with a play club outside a lodging in Mumbai’s Santacruz in the early long periods of Wednesday, following a contention with the powerhouse and her companion Shobit Thakur after the batsman supposedly wouldn’t click more selfies with them.

On Thursday, Gill was taken into custody by the Oshiwara Police Department, along with seven others, for allegedly trying to intimidate Shaw and threatening to put him in a false case. On Friday, she was brought before the Andheri court, which placed her in police custody until Monday.

A Mumbai court granted Sapna and three other accused people bail after rejecting the police’s request for a four-day extension of their remand on the grounds that they needed more time to recover the baseball bat and the vehicle used in the alleged crime.

“A criminal complaint has been registered against Prithvi Shaw, Ashish Surendra Yadav, Brijesh and others (not known to complainant) for illegal acts of molesting and outraging the modesty of Sapna Gill under sections 34, 120b, 144, 146, 148, 149, 323, 324, 351, 354 & 509 of IPC, ”

Sapna’s lawyer told ANI.

Mumbai police extended their interrogation process surrounding the Prithvi Shaw assault case as they arrested the fourth accused on Saturday. The Prithvi Shaw assault case broke out earlier this week during an argument over clicking selfies reached four on Saturday, a Mumbai police official said.

The development comes after social media influencer Sapna Gill and her friend Shobhit Thakur were held on Saturday.

The India opener was manhandled before his car was attacked with a baseball bat after the row started over clicking selfies in a luxury hotel in Mumbai.

Prithvi Shaw assault case: What is the development around the case?

Initially, a total of eight persons were charged with rioting, assault, putting a person in fear of death  by Oshiwara police in connection with the incident on the complaint of Shaw’s friend Ashish Yadav.

“When Prithvi refused to take repeated selfies by the same person, he was asked to leave. A scuffle broke out after that. Sapna Gill and her friends later attacked our car and damaged the windscreen with a baton. There was no assault from any side, they just attacked the car,” Ashish told Times Network.

“An offence was registered in Oshiwara police station, Mumbai, under the section of unlawful assembly, extortion and other sections. The accused in the case damaged the car of the complainant (Prithvi Shaw) and then demanded Rs 50,000 to let go of the matter. One accused has been arrested, efforts are underway to nab others. No counter FIR or counter allegations have been made so far. We will investigate if the other side makes any complaint.” said DCP Zone 9 Anil Paraskar.

The police, on investigating the matter, said that Thakur played a major role in the incident. As per police, Gill and Thakur had approached Shaw for selfies, which led to an argument as the cricketer refused to oblige after a couple of mobile phone photographs.

However, Gill’s advocate Asif Ali Khan, alleged that the Mumbai cricketer hit his client in drunk state.

“In the five-star hotel, social media influencer Sapna Gill just went to Prithvi Shaw as a fan for taking a selfie with him. They were having a party, Prithvi Shaw was drunk and he was holding a bat in his hand and he hit with his bat to Sapna. Then the next day, he went to the police and filed the case,” claimed Deshmukh.
