Five Facts About Salil Arora After His SMAT Heroics

1. Salil Arora scored a hundred on his first-class debut

Salil Arora made his first-class debut in the 2024 Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh. He impressed everyone by scoring a tough century in the first innings, helping Punjab reach 277 after coming in at 48-5.

2. He is in the IPL 2026 Auction with a base price of ₹30 lakh

Salil Arora is part of the 350-player shortlist for the IPL 2026 Auction, with a base price of ₹30 lakh.

He shares the Punjab dressing room with top players like Abhishek Sharma, Naman Dhir, Arshdeep Singh, and Prabhsimran Singh. Arora could become the next big name from Punjab to shine in the IPL.

3. He was part of India’s winning squad in the 2019 U-19 Asia Cup

Salil was selected in India’s U-19 team led by Dhruv Jurel, which won the 2019 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. He played one match, scoring a steady 29 runs in a tricky chase against Afghanistan.

5. He faced a long wait due to a selection issue in Punjab cricket

Like many young players, Salil faced challenges in his early cricket journey. During his Punjab U-19 days, he had to wait for his chance because the chief selector’s son was picked ahead of him.

In 2017, Punjab Cricket Player Association President Bhupinder Singh told the Tribune that it was unfair to ignore Salil, who had scored 198 runs in eight innings and was part of the winning team. He said Salil became a victim of corruption in the selection.

A brilliant exhibition of hitting by an uncapped Indian batter ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. Bolstered by a quick-fire cameo, Haryana registered an easy win against Rajasthan in a Super League phase match of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2025) on December 12 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Arsh Ranga put the stage on fire with his extraordinary batting in the first over of the second innings when Haryana went to chase a target of 133 runs in 20 overs. Rajasthan opened their bowling with the emerging spinner Manav Suthar, who is the captain of the team as well.

Ranga quickly shifted gears right after a dot ball on the first delivery. On the second, he slammed it for a huge six on the on-side, followed by a backfoot punch on the off-side for a boundary. For the next two balls, the left-handed batter crafted another over-boundary and a boundary. The second maximum was over the deep midwicket, and the second four came out from a straight bat. For the couple of sixes, the batter used his muscle power, and for the 4s, he used batting techniques—a backfoot punch and a straight drive.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, the explosive batting from Ranga definitely caught cricket fans' eyes. He will be in the auction with a price tag of only INR 30 lakhs. So, if any franchise wants to strengthen their batting power with minimal expense, then the 21-year-old can be a good option.

In the match, Rajasthan went to bat first and scored 132 runs against a loss of eight wickets. Mahipal Lomror remained unbeaten for a patiently built 37-run knock. The target looked easier to achieve for Haryana after the aggressive batting from Arsh Ranga. The opener scored 27 off 12 with three 4s and two 6s. Skipper Ankit Kumar played a 60-run innings and made the path to win much smoother for Haryana. Haryana won the game by 7 wickets and 22 balls to spare.

An emotional moment for fans as Ishan Kishan and the Jharkhand cricket team left Ahmedabad to play the next stage of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2025). Ishan was the skipper of his state team; under him, the team is undefeated so far in the tournament.

Jharkhand is in Elite Group D of the tournament. After playing 7 matches, they are currently undefeated, as they have won all of the seven matches with dominance. With a net run rate of +1.976, the Jharkhand cricket team accumulated a total of 28 points and moved to the next round of the contest. Rather than relying on individual excellence, the team has gotten success so far with pure team games.

As the leader of the team, Ishan Kishan performed promisingly with the bat as well as with the keeping gloves. The southpaw smashed an unbeaten century against Tripura and got a 93-run knock against Saurashtra. Before participating in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he played a few matches for the India-A team, where he scored a half-century.

Fans got emotional as Ishan Kishan left Ahmedabad:

For the group matches, the Jharkhand cricket team was based in Ahmedabad. They have to relocate for the next games. Fans were gathered near the team bus of the Jharkhand cricket team to say goodbye to them. An Indian cricket fan with a Team India kit was waiting for the keeper-batter. Ishan spotted the fan and walked towards him and gave him a hug. A wonderful gesture by the star cricketer.

The Super League phase of the tournament is scheduled to start on December 12. Jharkhand will play their next match against Punjab at the D Y Patil Academy in Pune. Punjab emerged as the number one team from the Elite C group. They won 5 matches and lost 2 in their 7 games.

Hat-trick in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 (SMAT 2025). When batters are making headlines for playing some brilliant knocks, an underrated bowler from Rajasthan showed excellent bowling skill by taking three wickets in 3 consecutive deliveries.

Rajasthan pacer Ashok Kumar claimed a hat-trick during the Uttarakhand vs. Rajasthan SMAT 2025 match on December 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match was poised to be a thriller in the last quarter, but the hat trick of Kumar folded things in quick time. In the last three balls of the 18th over of the second innings of the match, the seamer bagged the hat trick.

Who is Ashok Kumar?

Ashok Kumar is a well-known bowler from Rajasthan. In domestic cricket, his swing bowling ability with control over line and length is well discussed. Scouts of franchises from the Indian Premier League are already aware of the 23-year-old. The bowler, who received multiple IPL contracts, is yet to make his debut in the league.

The right-arm pacer was a part of Rajasthan Royals (RR) as a net bowler before Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him in a player's contract in 2022 for INR 55 lakh. But he did not get to play any single match for KKR. After spending some time with the Kolkata-based franchise, he went back to RR and joined the franchise for INR 30 lakhs at the mega auction in 2025.

Ahead of another IPL auction, Kumar has shown his class. Uttarakhand was seven down for 120 while they were chasing a target of 194. Well-set batter Rajan Kumar was on the pitch when Ashok made it 120 for 8. Then, in the next two deliveries, the pacer took Agrim Arun Tiwari and Akash Madhwal's timber to confirm a win for Rajasthan. In his 3-over spell, Ashok Kumar struck 4 times against only 16 runs.

Mumbai create new T20 cricket history after openers Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane’s thrashing start and Suryansh Shedge’s fiery finish in the high-scoring chase of the SMAT 2024-25 quarter-final against Vidarbha.

After Mumbai chose to field first, Vidarbha scored 221/6 in 20 overs. In reply, Mumbai chased the target in 19.2 overs after losing four wickets.

Vidarbha had two half-centuries before Shubham Dubey's fiery batting

Vidarbha openers Atharva Taide and Karun Nair provided a solid start with a 60-run opening partnership before Nair lost his wicket for 26 runs in the sixth over. While the opener Taide scored 66 off 41 balls (10 fours and one six), the no.4 batter Apoorv Wankhade scored 51 off 33 balls (two fours and three sixes). They had an 81-run partnership for the third wicket. Later, Shubham Dubey fired up with 43 not out off 19 balls with three fours and three sixes.

Among the Mumbai bowlers, Atharva Ankolekar (2/32) and Suryansh Shedge (2/36) took two wickets each while Tanush Kotian (1/19) got a wicket.

Shaw and Rahane started strongly before Dube and Shedge's outstanding finishing

Mumbai openers Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane started the chase in a dominant way. The openers had an 83-run partnership for the first wicket before Shaw was dismissed for 49 off 26 balls with five fours and four sixes.

Rahane continued his strong batting performances despite the captain Shreyas Iyer (5) and Suryakumar Yadav (9) losing their wickets cheaply. When Rahane was dismissed in the 16th over, Mumbai scored 157/4, and they still required 65 runs in 29 balls.

Rahane scored 84 off 45 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes. The right-handed batter completed his 47th T20 half-century in 27 balls. It was his fourth 50+ score in his last five T20 innings (52, 68, 22, 95, and 84).

Shivam Dube and Suryansh Shedge slammed the opponent bowlers and comfortably chased the giant target. While Dube scored 37 not out off 22 balls (one four and two sixes), Shedge scored 36 not out off just 12 balls (one four and four sixes).

Highest successful chase in a T20 knockout stage

It was the highest successful chase in a knockout match in T20 cricket history. The previous record was successfully chasing the 210-run target by Karachi Dolphins against Rawalpindi Rams at Lahore during the semi-final of the Faysal Bank T-20 Cup 2010-11.

Meanwhile, it was also the joint third-highest successful chase for a team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history.

Suryakumar Yadav will play Vijay Hazare Trophy

On the other hand, Suryakumar is likely to be available for the upcoming domestic List A tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, starting on December 21. Mumbai, who last won this List A tournament in the 2020-21 season, will target to equal Tamil Nadu's five Vijay Hazare Trophies successes this season. This will be Suryakumar's ideal preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, before which India will play only one three-match home ODI series against England.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is desperate to return to Test cricket, also played one match in the present Ranji Trophy season when Mumbai faced Maharashtra.
