Southern Brave Women’s dream run in The Hundred Women’s 2025 came to an end when they were defeated by Northern Superchargers Women in the grand final at Lord’s by seven wickets. Brave went through the group stage unbeaten but faltered when it mattered the most, only able to post 115/6 in their 100 balls. The Brave’s batting never gained any momentum because of the early wickets. The Superchargers executed their plans with respect to their bowling and fielding plans properly, which ensured, in comparison, Brave hardly ever had a chance. A fiery chase, led by Phoebe Litchfield and sealed by Annabel Sutherland and Nicola Carey, ensured Northern lifted their maiden title with 12 balls to spare, comfortably chasing the target in 88 balls. Below are the main reasons for the Southern Brave Women defeat.

1. Brave’s below-par total—restricted to just 115 for 6

The Southern Brave struggled badly with the bat, only scoring 115/6 off of 100 balls. Some early wickets by Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt-Hodge hurt their momentum and got them chasing the game. Never reached any acceleration in their innings, allowing Northern to dominate the game.

2. Northern’s strong bowling and sharp fielding

The Superchargers’ bowlers executed their plans perfectly, with Kate Cross and Annabel Sutherland taking two wickets each. Their sharp fielding added pressure, highlighted by the crucial run-out of captain Georgia Adams. Brave never recovered from these setbacks.

3. Superchargers’ pacey chase powered by Litchfield, Carey & Sutherland

Northern started strongly with Phoebe Litchfield’s explosive 26 off 13 balls. A steady unbeaten stand between Sutherland (28*) and Carey (35*) then finished the job comfortably. They chased the target in just 88 balls, handing Brave a seven-wicket loss.

Southern Brave Women continued their good run with a clear 29-run win over Welsh Fire Women in Southampton. Batting first, Brave made 106/8, with skipper Georgia Adams steadying the innings with an unbeaten 30. In reply, Welsh Fire struggled badly and ended at 77/9, as Lauren Bell bowled brilliantly, taking 4 wickets for just 20 runs.

The Brave lost early wickets with Maia Bouchier 2 runs and Laura Wolvaardt 8 runs falling quickly. Danni Wyatt-Hodge added a useful 24, while Freya Kemp 18 runs and Chloe Tryon 8 runs chipped in. The key knock came from captain Georgia Adams, who stayed unbeaten on 30 and helped her side cross the 100-run mark. Welsh Fire bowlers Hayley Matthews (2/10) and Shabnim Ismail (2/9) kept the pressure on with tight spells.

Chasing 107, Welsh Fire never found their footing. Captain Tammy Beaumont top-scored with 28 from 33 balls, while Hayley Matthews (16) gave some support, but no other batter could stand up. The Brave bowlers stayed on top, with Lauren Bell leading the way, taking 4 wickets for 20 runs. Welsh Fire folded for 77/9, giving Brave a comfortable victory and another 4 points on the table.

Southern Brave Women kept their winning streak alive with a nail-biting 3-wicket win over Welsh Fire Women in Cardiff. After choosing to bowl first, Brave did well to hold Welsh Fire to 111/6. Lauren Bell (2/20) and Sophie Devine (2/32) bowled with control and made scoring hard. For Welsh Fire, Georgia Elwiss fought through the innings, staying unbeaten on 35 from 36 balls to give her team something to defend.

Sophia Dunkley gave them a start, but the team kept losing wickets at regular points. Elwiss was the only one who stayed in and kept the innings together, while Brave’s bowlers kept the pressure on.

Brave’s chase began well with Maia Bouchier hitting 35 from 30 balls. But Jess Jonassen’s brilliant spell of 4/10 brought Welsh Fire back into the game, causing a late collapse. In the tense final over, Georgia Adams held her nerve and scored the winning runs off the very last ball, taking Brave to 112/7 and keeping their unbeaten run intact.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why Welsh Fire Women lost to Southern Brave Women in the Hundred Women's 2025 match 21]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-welsh-fire-women-lost-to-southern-brave-women-in-the-hundred-women-s-2025-match-21/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-welsh-fire-women-lost-to-southern-brave-women-in-the-hundred-women-s-2025-match-21/ Wed, 20 Aug 2025 19:12:16 GMT

Welsh Fire Women once again struggled as they fell to Southern Brave Women in Match 21 of The Hundred Women’s 2025. Batting first, Fire could only post 111/6 in 100 balls, despite Georgia Elwiss (35 off 36) and Sophia Dunkley (31 off 25) showing some fight. Southern Brave’s bowlers, especially Lauren Bell and Sophie Devine, kept the pressure on throughout. In reply, Brave chased down the target of 112/7 in 99 balls, led by Maia Bouchier’s steady 35 off 30. Here are the main reasons why the Welsh Fire Women lost the match.

1. Underwhelming Batting from Welsh Fire

The Fire batters failed to build a big total, ending on just 111/6. Georgia Elwiss (35) and Sophia Dunkley (31) battled but it was the lack of support from the middle and lower order batters that left them short, as they could not build meaningful partnerships for a challenging total.

2. Dominant Bowling from Southern Brave

Lauren Bell (2/20) and Sophie Devine (2/23) were excellent with the ball, striking at crucial moments. Chloe Tryon (1/6) also chipped in, ensuring no batter could break free. Their disciplined performance restricted Fire and left the Brave with a modest chase.

3. Brave’s Composed Chase Despite Pressure

While Brave lost seven wickets, Bouchier's 35 and Sophie Devine's 25 steadied the innings. Jess Jonassen (4/10) tried her best to pull Fire back into the contest and produced a brilliant spell but the depth for Brave saw them across the line. Their experience and calmness under pressure proved decisive.

Welsh Fire Women (WEF-W) will contend with Southern Brave Women (SOB-W) in Match 21 of The Hundred Women’s 2025 at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Wednesday, August 20. Fire are currently struggling at the bottom of the points table with four straight defeats, and Tammy Beaumont’s side is yet to find its best cricket. They will be desperate to register their first win of the season in this home fixture.

On the other hand, Southern Brave have enjoyed a dream run so far, leading the table with 20 points. Georgia Adams’ team is riding on a five-match winning streak and will look to continue their dominant form with yet another strong performance against a struggling Fire side.

WEF-W vs SOB-W: Head-to-Head

 • Matches – 7
 • Welsh Fire Women won – 3
 • Southern Brave Women won – 4
 • Tied – 0

The head-to-head contests between these two teams have been very evenly matched, with Southern Brave ahead by a narrow margin. Welsh Fire will want to bring the head-to-head record closer together, while Brave will want to extend their lead further.

WEF-W vs SOB-W: Pitch Report

The pitch at Sophia Gardens offers some swing and seam movement early on, allowing pace bowlers to strike with the new ball. Batters will need to start carefully; however, once they are set, they will be able to score freely due to a very nice carry on the pitch. Teams chasing generally have an advantage here due to dew making it easier to bat and letting teams manage scoreboard pressure.

Southern Brave Women bowled brilliantly and then chased down the target calmly to beat Trent Rockets by six wickets in The Hundred Women’s Competition at Trent Bridge. Captain Georgia Adams chose to bowl first, and it worked perfectly. Young Tilly Corteen-Coleman, just 17, struck twice in her first over, removing Bryony Smith (10) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (0) with help from a sharp stumping by Rhianna Southby.

Rockets captain Ashleigh Gardner tried to fight back with a quick 25 off 16 balls, but her team kept losing wickets. From 36-2 after the powerplay, they crumbled to 55-8. Corteen-Coleman finished with amazing figures of 4-13, while Lauren Bell took 3-16 and became the first woman to reach 50 wickets in The Hundred.

Corteen-Coleman called it a great team effort and said the squad is working hard to prove themselves this season.

Match 7 of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2025 turned out to be an exciting battle as Southern Brave Women beat Birmingham Phoenix Women by 15 runs at Southampton. Batting first, Southern Brave lost Maia Bouchier early, but Wyatt-Hodge took control with a superb knock of 59 from 39 balls, hitting nine fours and a six. Birmingham were bowled out for 124 in the 99th ball, just short of the target. It was a well-earned win for Southern Brave, who showed great teamwork, while Birmingham Phoenix were left thinking about the chances they missed in both batting and bowling.
