Southern Brave Women kept their winning streak alive with a nail-biting 3-wicket win over Welsh Fire Women in Cardiff. After choosing to bowl first, Brave did well to hold Welsh Fire to 111/6. Lauren Bell (2/20) and Sophie Devine (2/32) bowled with control and made scoring hard. For Welsh Fire, Georgia Elwiss fought through the innings, staying unbeaten on 35 from 36 balls to give her team something to defend.

Batting first, Fire could only post 111/6 in 100 balls, despite Georgia Elwiss (35 off 36) and Sophia Dunkley (31 off 25) showing some fight. Southern Brave’s bowlers, especially Lauren Bell and Sophie Devine, kept the pressure on throughout. In reply, Brave chased down the target of 112/7 in 99 balls, led by Maia Bouchier’s steady 35 off 30. Here are the main reasons why the Welsh Fire Women lost the match.

1. Underwhelming Batting from Welsh Fire

Northern Superchargers won the toss and chose to bat, but their innings never got going. They were bundled out for just 102 runs in their 100 balls. Sophie Devine led the charge with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs. Lauren Bell and Georgia Adams also bowled tightly, giving nothing away. Captain Hollie Armitage tried to fight back with an unbeaten 36 off 28 balls, but the rest of the batting order struggled to stay in.

Chasing 103, Southern Brave were in control from the start. Danielle Wyatt smashed 43 off 31 balls, while Laura Wolvaardt played a steady knock of 33 runs in 29 balls. Devine added the finishing touch with 15 runs in just 8 balls, as the team reached the target with 17 balls to spare. Match 7 of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2025 turned out to be an exciting battle as Southern Brave Women beat Birmingham Phoenix Women by 15 runs at Southampton. Batting first, Southern Brave lost Maia Bouchier early, but Wyatt-Hodge took control with a superb knock of 59 from 39 balls, hitting nine fours and a six.
