The 55th match of IPL 2025 was played between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad. In this match, no result could be achieved due to rain and this match has finally been declared cancelled. Delhi Capitals team had scored 133 runs in the stipulated 20 overs in this match, after which it started raining and the match could not start.

In this match, Hyderabad won the toss and chose bowling. Captain Pat Cummins took the new ball and sent Karun Nair (0) off the very first ball. Faf du Plessis (3) and Abhishek Porel (8) also could not stand in front of Cummins and three wickets fell for 15 runs.
Delhi captain Axar Patel (6) opened the account with a four off Cummins but was caught at mid-off by Harshal Patel. Delhi team could score only 26 runs for four wickets in the power play and were in deep trouble.

Delhi had high hopes from KL Rahul but after scoring 10 runs, he got caught by the wicketkeeper on Jaydev Unadkat's ball, due to which the team's score became 29 runs for five wickets. Vipraaj Nigam hit the first six of the match on Zeeshan Ansari in the 10th over and then hit a four in the same over.
Delhi's half-century of runs was completed in the 11th over. Vipraaj was run out again. He scored 18 runs. After this, Stubbs and Ashutosh together took charge of Delhi. Both of them made a partnership of 66 runs for the seventh wicket and took Delhi to a fighting score. Apart from Cummins, Jaydev Unadkat gave only 13 runs in four overs and took one wicket.

The 55th game of IPL 2025 between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad turned out to be a disappointment as rain spoiled the party, and the match was declared a no-result. The washout mathematically knocked SRH out of the playoff contention, and Delhi remained in the mix with 13 points from 11 matches.

First Innings Recap

Having won the toss, SRH captain Pat Cummins decided to have DC bat first — a move that yielded rich early reward. Cummins set the tone for his team with an impressive opening spell, taking three wickets and making a fantastic catch, leaving DC on the ropes at a vulnerable 26/4 within the powerplay.

But a gritty stand by Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma stabilized the innings. Both scored 41 each and saw DC recover to muster a modest total of 133/7 in 20 overs. Their counterattack gave Delhi a fighting chance, but nature had other plans.

Rain Rules the Day

Just as SRH was about to start their chase, incessant rain started. Even after several inspections and hopes of a shortened-overs chase, the outfield was still too wet to play on. The match was eventually abandoned, and both teams received one point each.

The 55th match of the IPL 2025 season, featuring Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC), will be remembered as a disappointing affair for both fans and players, after rain kept on falling on the field and a wet outfield caused the game to be abandoned without SRH needing to bat or having the chance to chase. The game was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in what was an important game for both sides to try to revive their campaigns. The game had plenty of potential; however, the weather dictated the outcome, resulting in both sides receiving a point.

Delhi Capitals, who were put in to bat first, struggled to get going, as the SRH pace attack fronted by Pat Cummins took early control of the innings. Without a single player getting to double figures except Ashutosh Sharma (41 off 26), DC found themselves at 29/5 from the early onslaught of Cummins. The Aussie would finish with impressive figures of 31-3-19. But then a counter-attacking partnership between Tristan Stubbs (41* off 36) and Ashutosh Sharma somehow gave Delhi a fighting chance to compete with 133 runs, finishing at 133/7 after 20 overs.

Rain Denies SRH, Playoff Dreams Shattered

Unfortunately for SRH, the weather turned against them during the innings break. It was one short of impossible for the umpires to get a clear view of play when inspections kept ruling that the outfield wasn't fit to play. The umpires kept making delays, with the end of inspections not looking good for SRH. After a long interruption, the match was officially abandoned.

By not finishing this match, SRH were officially eliminated from the playoff race. With just three wins out of 11, SRH remain at the bottom of the table and were not able to build up enough momentum over the season. Their inconsistencies and inability to finish off games have come back to cost them time and time again.

For the Delhi Capitals, they have now moved up to fifth place, and they will stay in with a chance of making the playoffs with this one point as they now continue to focus on their remaining fixtures in the hope of moving into the top four as the league phase starts to draw to a close.

This was a big disappointment for SRH, but for Delhi Capitals, this could be hugely significant in a very competitive race for the playoffs. In the end, with every point so important at the conclusion of IPL 2025, it's very possible that this abandoned match could even be crucial for the Delhi Capitals.

<![CDATA[SRH vs DC: why Nitish Kumar Reddy is not playing today's match]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/srh-vs-dc-why-nitish-kumar-reddy-is-not-playing-today-s-match/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/srh-vs-dc-why-nitish-kumar-reddy-is-not-playing-today-s-match/ Mon, 05 May 2025 21:31:31 GMT

In a surprising turn of events, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of today's Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC). The crucial 55th match of the season is being held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday, May 5.

While earlier speculation suggested that Nitish had been dropped due to underwhelming performances, it has now been officially confirmed that the youngster is actually unwell. The franchise announced via its official social media handles that Reddy is suffering from a stomach infection and was hence unavailable for selection.

Nitish Kumar Reddy misses out tonight as he's unwell,” SRH posted on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, putting to rest rumours of a form related omission.

Illness Rules Out Key All-Rounder as SRH Make Strategic Changes for Crucial Playoff Clash

Nitish Kumar Reddy has had a challenging season so far. Having recovered from a side strain he sustained after the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the 21-year-old could not get into his groove in IPL 2025. In the 10 games he played, Reddy scored only 173 runs at a strike rate of 113.91. Moreover, he hasn’t bowled a single over this season likely a precautionary move following his injury.

His limited contribution with both bat and ball had already raised questions about his role in the side, especially with SRH fighting to stay alive in the playoffs race. However, the current absence is not performance-based, but purely due to illness.

SRH made three changes to their playing XI for this do-or-die fixture. Sachin Baby, Abhinav Manohar, and young pacer Eshan Malinga were brought in, replacing Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Shami, and Kamindu Mendis.

Here is SRH’s Playing XI for the match: Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Sachin Baby, Heinrich Klaasen, Aniket Verma, Abhinav Manohar, Pat Cummins (captain), Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, Zeeshan Ansari, and Eshan Malinga.

With Reddy sidelined and the playoffs looming, SRH will hope that the new additions can step up in what could be a defining game in their IPL 2025 campaign.

In a dramatic beginning to Match 55 of IPL 2025 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, SRH captain Pat Cummins hit gold with the first delivery. Karun Nair of DC was dismissed on the first ball, caught behind by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan after he edged a sharp outswinger from Cummins.

This initial success paved the way for SRH's dominance. Cummins persisted with his blazing spell by getting rid of Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel, leaving DC in disarray at 19/3 inside the first five overs. Cummins' outstanding bowling not only shattered DC's strongest order but also created a milestone, as he became the first IPL skipper to claim three wickets during an innings' powerplay.

Karun Nair's fall contributes to his recent run of poor performance in the tournament. Although his season started with promise, his form has taken a hit, with this golden duck being just another example of his continued issues at the crease.

SRH vs DC Probable Winners:

Sunrisers Hyderabad has been all over the place lately and is essentially out of the playoff race. Their top-order may appear impressive, but they've frequently squandered promising starts with rash shots and chain-reaction collapses. When their openers click, they can rip through any bowling attack. The Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, enjoyed a more balanced season. Despite a recent dip in form, they appear to be in better shape for this one. They've already beaten SRH this season and appear more organized. Still, with the game at home, SRH has a chance, especially if Abhishek, Head, and Klassen find their rhythm. Nonetheless, it appears that Delhi is the safer option. Considering the team combination, Delhi Capitals is expected to win this match.

SRH vs DC: Weather and Pitch Report

It is expected to be warm and humid in Hyderabad on May 5, 2025, with temperatures varying around 28–32°C (82–90°F) and the level of humidity sitting between 65–75%. Rain is not a likely possibility, so an uninterrupted match looks to be on the cards. The pitch at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is usually batsman-friendly with a flat pitch that can produce big scores. Spinners might get some turn as the match continues, but otherwise, be aware of dew in the second innings, which could make a difference in the match, as teams often have a distinct advantage while chasing. I expect teams will opt to bowl first to take advantage of chasing conditions at night.

SRH vs DC: Match Preview

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) play Delhi Capitals (DC) in a key IPL 2025 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 5. SRH is in ninth place, and DC is contending for a playoff place, making this match an important one. SRH has only won 3 of 10 matches to date, and they need victories to stay in the hunt. The Sunrisers batting order, including Travis Head and Ishan Kishan, has failed to be consistent, but Abhishek Sharma seems to have found form and can be a player of impact. Heinrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma have been solid in the middle order. Captain Pat Cummins leads a struggling bowling attack, one which has two premier players, Mohammed Shami and Harshal Patel. There are also the likes of spinners, Zeeshan Ansari, who could play an important role on the spin-friendly Hyderabad pitch.

DC, led by Axar Patel, has a flow about their game and is fifth on the ladder with 6 wins behind them. Their batting, which consists of heavy hitters such as Faf du Plessis, KL Rahul, and Tristan Stubbs, is strong, but the middle order on which they rely also needs to score runs. Mitchell Starc has taken responsibility in recent weeks, with his first five-wicket haul earlier in IPL 2025 coming against SRH along with spin options including Kuldeep Yadav, who has put together some impressive numbers. Additionally, if the day turns flat, and with dew as a factor, chasing seems the better strategy. Notably, DC comfortably beat SRH last time around, and they will no doubt be keen to recreate that performance. For SRH, it's now or never in the fight for a playoff spot.

SRH VS DC: Two defeats in three IPL 2025 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH hardly managed to create a strong barricade around Capitals; therefore, Delhi Capitals won the match with 7 wickets in hand and 24 balls to spare. Apart from the match result, only taking point of this match is Aniket Verma, who, during an interaction, said that hitting sixes is his hobby.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, batting first, put only a total of 163 runs on the board before losing all of their ten wickets in 18.4 overs. In this 163-run, Aniket alone has scored 74 runs against 41 balls. Against a formidable Mitchell Starc, who took 5 wickets in this match, and Kuldeep Yadav, who took 3, Aniket was like playing for fun. Cricket fans present at the ACA VDCA International Cricket Stadium-Visakhapatnam stadium witnessed 6 huge sixes come out of Verma's bat, along with five 4s. Apart from Aniket, only Heinrich Klaasen (19 balls, 32 runs) added a significant amount of runs to the scoreboard.

And he did it with ease 🫡

Who is Aniket Verma?

Aniket Verma was an uncapped player for the Sunrisers Hyderabad who is now under the spotlight for his brilliant 74-run innings. Verma, hailing from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, played competitive matches in Madhya Pradesh. The 23-year-old batter emerged as the top scorer in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League, where he scored 273 runs in 6 matches for Bhopal Leopards, including a lightning-fast 41-ball-123 innings.

In a video shared by the Sunrisers on their Hyderabad, he was asked about his hobby; in reply, Verma said, 'Mujhe six marna pasad hai' (I love to hit over boundaries). That's what he did against the Delhi Capitals—hitting sixes.
