The IPL 2025 season continues to deliver thrilling action as teams fiercely compete for top positions. Match 38 of the IPL 2025 season was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 23.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, put in to bat after losing the toss, scored 143/8 in 20 overs, owing to Heinrich Klaasen's 71 from 44 deliveries and Abhinav Manohar's 43. Mumbai Indians bowled responsibly—Trent Boult captured 4/26, Deepak Chahar took 2/12, and Hardik Pandya 1/31. MI chased the target quite easily in reply, reaching 146/3 in 15.4 overs. Rohit Sharma led with a composed 70 off 46, while Suryakumar Yadav smashed 40 off 19 to finish the game in style. Will Jacks added 22. Despite SRH’s bowlers picking a few wickets, MI’s batting dominance ensured a comfortable 7-wicket victory.

Rohit Sharma has once again engraved his name in the cricketing history books. The Indian cricket legend reached a record milestone during the IPL 2025 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI), becoming the latest member of the exclusive 12,000-run club in T20 cricket.

Rohit joined the milestone in style, booting Pat Cummins over the stands with an imposing six, which aptly characterized his T20 career: bold, authoritative, and exhilarating. The six not only reflected his supremacy but also marked the beginning of his journey into the club of the most successful scorers in T20. He did it in his 443rd T20 match, thus becoming the fifth-quickest player in history to do so.

Fastest to 12,000 T20 Runs:

 • Chris Gayle – 345 innings
 • Virat Kohli – 360 innings
 • David Warner – 368 innings
 • Alex Hales – 432 innings
 • Rohit Sharma – 443 innings
 • Shoaib Malik – 451 innings

Popular for his silken stroke play and savage hitting, Rohit has been the most reliable of openers in the T20 age. With a strike rate of 30.81, the MI old warhorse has scored eight centuries and 79 half-centuries in the format. But beyond the stats, it's his capability to win games with effortless class that makes him different.

Record Sixes for Mumbai Indians

Apart from the 12,000-run record, Rohit also took over another MI record, most sixes for MI. The right-hand batter has hit his 259th six for Mumbai Indians during the match, breaking Kieron Pollard's record of 258. It's another testament to his lasting legacy at MI, where he has been both a leader and a legend.

Elite 12,000-Run Club in T20s

 • Chris Gayle – 14,562 runs
 • Alex Hales – 13,610 runs
 • Shoaib Malik – 13,571 runs
 • Kieron Pollard – 13,537 runs
 • Virat Kohli – 13,208 runs
 • David Warner – 13,019 runs
 • Jos Buttler – 12,469 runs
 • Rohit Sharma – 12,013* runs

While the 2025 IPL did not get off to a great start for the erstwhile MI skipper, he got back into the groove in the intense face-off against Chennai Super Kings. His 76 not out off 45 balls, including six sixes and four fours, was vintage Rohit, driving MI to a badly needed victory and quelling all rumors regarding his form.

As MI pursue 144 against SRH, Rohit is still at the center of their quest now not only as an experienced performer, but as a record-breaker who keeps testing the limits of what can be achieved in the shortest form.

During the April 23rd match in IPL 2025 Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians (MI) when they played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. SRH faced defeat against MI when the Mumbai team achieved the 144-run target in just 15.4 overs to win by seven wickets. SRH lost their most valuable batsmen during the powerplay phase, so their innings started with a low score, which doomed their chances.

MI achieved a clinical performance in bowling that was highlighted by Trent Boult, who precisely dismantled the opposition top order. MI batters aggressively chased down the target while Rohit Sharma hit a commanding stroke, and Suryakumar Yadav finished the game with quick swings. SRH started poorly, and Boult threw fiery deliveries as MI batters asserted themselves at the crease, which eliminated any chance of recovery for SRH in their match against MI.

1. Early Wicket Collapsing and Lack of Partnerships

The batting innings from SRH never got off on the right foot early on, and they had no partnerships that would help them move towards a competitive score. Heinrich Klaasen scored a very respectable 71, as did Abhinav Manohar in his 43, but the rest of their batting lineup struggled immensely. The only other batsman to reach double figures was Aniket Verma, which is a clear sign that SRH relied heavily on Klasen and Manohar for the scoring. With no meaningful partnerships, they never really got the batting momentum going with their consistent loss of wickets. With a lack of support around Klassen and Manohar, SRH only managed to score a poor 143 for 8 runs when it would have needed to double that with the batting conditions in Hyderabad.

2. Trent Boult's Blistering Bowling Spell

Trent Boult, the pace spearhead for the Mumbai Indians, produced a match-defining bowling performance, knocking over the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting order with extraordinary bowling figures of 4 for 26 in his spell of 4 overs. Boult's swinging deliveries in the power play meant that Sunrisers Hyderabad lost important wickets early on and were set back by the loss of wickets from the opening over. Boult's initial blows were enough to shock Sunrisers Hyderabad very early on in the innings, and they never recovered since. Not to take away from Boult's performance, Deepak Chahar was just as impressive, producing unbelievably economical bowling figures of 2 for 12 and further turning the screws so that Sunrisers Hyderabad couldn't build any kind of momentum in their innings. The bowling effort by both Boult and Chahar led to a strangulation of SRH's batting, and they were never going to get to a defendable total for MI.

3. Explosive Batting from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav

SRH's bowling unit, headed by Harshal Patel and Pat Cummins, was unable to have any impact during MI's explosive innings. MI, led by Rohit Sharma's fluent 70 runs from 46 deliveries and Suryakumar Yadav's unbeaten 40 runs from 19 deliveries, chased down 144 runs at 9.29 runs per over in just 15.4 overs. The batsmen played aggressively and side-stepped any scoreboard pressure. Big hats off to MI's batting; SRH's bowling lacked any sort of brothers in arms or dutiful bowling, and as such, Rohit and Suryakumar took them apart with no impetus whatsoever, cruising to their win without breaking a sweat.

It was a one-sided match, but we are used to it from the two-time champs, as the Mumbai Indians (MI) laid waste to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 7 wickets in a relatively comfortable win in match 41 of the IPL 2025, once again flexing their dominance after backing up a marauding performance from captain Rohit Sharma with cool calm from their bowlers, easily chasing down SRH's modest score of 143.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings

The Sunrisers Hyderabad lost the toss and found themselves batting first. They finished their innings at 143/8 after 20 overs. Kevin Klaasen kept the innings afloat with a blistering 71 off 44 balls, with some runs coming from Abhinav Manohar, who scored 43 from 37 balls, while Sunrisers lost wickets at the other end, with Aniket Verma being the only other batter with double-figure runs, 12 off 14 balls.

The Mumbai Indians were disciplined in their bowling, with Trent Boult leading the way with 4 wickets for 26 from 4 overs, breaking the Sunrisers batting lineup. Deepak Chahar was tight and lethal with 2 wickets for just 12 runs from his over, and Hardik Pandya chimed in with 1/31 after 3 overs. Their combined efforts reminded the Sunrisers that while they took ages to start, the Mumbai Indians attack with their batting was constant and fast, leaving the Sunrisers defense without getting going and low on runs.

Mumbai Indians Innings

The Mumbai Indians had no trouble chasing their target, making it to the total of 146/3 in 15.4 overs, winning the match by 7 wickets. Rohit Sharma was impressive with his composed innings of 70 from 46 balls, setting the innings up for a formation of correctly made edges that made the target by demolishing the Sunrisers. He had adequate support, notably from Will Jacks, who scored 22 from 19, and then Suryakumar Yadav unleashed a blistering cameo of 40 in just 19 balls to seal the match emphatically.

Although SRH set a low total, their bowlers tried their best to fight the inevitable. Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga, and Zeeshan Ansari all got one wicket, but the MI batting line was too strong for SRH, chasing down their target with more than four overs to spare.

SRH vs MI: Post Match Reactions

Trent Boult (Player of the Match, MI): Trent Boult produced an aggressive spell of bowling, taking 4/26, and greatly contributed to Mumbai's win. Boult was pleased with restricting the strong SRH batters and praised Deepak Chahar for putting pressure from the other end. Boult spoke about adjusting to the different phases of the innings and then claimed he still enjoys the battle with top batters. "Can't beat a good yorker," he laughed, discussing the craft of fast bowling.

Hardik Pandya (MI Captain): Hardik gushed about how well his team played all-round and commended Boult, Chahar, Rohit, and Suryakumar. On captaincy instinct, he stated that he has to make decisions on the run, like letting Chahar bowl four overs in a row. He also communicated about providing Vignesh Puthur an opportunity when he claimed it was simply "tactical" to force a mistake on the bottom part of their order. Hardik also stated that, as MI becomes better across the board, they hope to play smart and clinical on every occasion.

Suryakumar Yadav (MI): Surya spoke with emotion, saying his wife flew down from Mumbai at the last minute, which gave him the motivation to perform. Surya credited Rohit for getting him off to a great start, which then enabled him to play freely and maintain tempo. Surya talked about practicing sample high-reward, low-risk shots in the nets and felt their four-match

Pat Cummins (SRH Captain): Cummins was disappointed with SRH’s batting collapse despite strong knocks from Klaasen and Manohar. He pointed out the lack of partnerships and the need to assess pitch conditions better. With several away games ahead, Cummins emphasized adaptability and smarter target setting to bounce back.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] IPL 2025: Abhinav Manohar finds strange way to get dismissed against Mumbai Indians]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-abhinav-manohar-finds-strange-way-to-get-dismissed-against-mumbai-indians/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-abhinav-manohar-finds-strange-way-to-get-dismissed-against-mumbai-indians/ Wed, 23 Apr 2025 16:29:54 GMT

Abhinav Manohar's well-built 43 of 37-ball innings came to an end with a hit wicket. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter went deep into the crease to face Trent Boult and swung his bat at the stumps. An unusual way to end an inning.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Mumbai Indians (MI), a game of IPL 2025, is loaded with unfamiliar events. From Ishan Kishan's bizarre caught-behind-the-stump decision to Manohar's hit wickets, cricket fans were not expecting to witness those, but it happened.

Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar disturbed SRH's top order with the new ball; the host team lost 4 for only 13 on the scoreboard. Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar came into the field to rescue Hyderabad. The South African batter scored 71 and 43 for Abhinav; he could have achieved his fifty easily, but a wrong decision changed the complexion of the game, and SRH in 20 overs achieved only 143.

Manohar hits both stumps and the ball

It was the fourth ball of the last over of the first innings; Trent Boult was the bowler, and Manohar was on strike. The New Zealand pacer went for an accurate yorker, whereas the young batter had already shifted his moment on the backfoot and angled his bat in hope for a cheeky shot, but his calculation was wrong.

Watch the moment here:

The ball landed right in front of his toss, and Manohar swings his bat right on the stumps, with the ball too, uprooting the wickets. Trent Boult completed his 4-over spell with 4 scalps and a 6.5 economy rate. Chahar, on the other hand, bagged 2 scalps in 4 overs for a 3.00 economy rate.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had another rough outing in IPL 2025 as they lost four wickets inside the first six overs against Mumbai Indians. Playing at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, SRH ended the PowerPlay at a shocking 24/4 their fourth-lowest PowerPlay score in IPL history.

This was the third time ever that SRH lost four or more wickets inside the PowerPlay in the IPL:

 • 24/4 vs MI – April 23, 2025 (Hyderabad)
 • 25/4 vs PWI – April 17, 2013 (Pune)
 • 29/5 vs RR – April 27, 2013 (Jaipur)

Mumbai Indians made a statement from the first ball. Trent Boult struck early, removing Travis Head with his second ball. Then came a controversial moment, Ishan Kishan walked off after thinking he edged Deepak Chahar, but replays showed there was no contact. Still, the decision stood. Soon after, Abhishek Sharma fell to Boult, and Nitish Kumar Reddy was taken out by Chahar. Four wickets fell in quick time, and fans on social media didn’t hold back their reactions.

SRH’s Lowest Total in IPL: A Not-So-Proud Record

If you’re wondering what SRH’s lowest total ever in IPL is, it came against Mumbai Indians in 2019 when they were bowled out for just 96 runs at the same venue in Hyderabad. In that game, Alzarri Joseph tore through their lineup with a six-wicket haul. Sadly for SRH fans, it seems like history might be repeating itself.

SRH started IPL 2025 with hopes of improving on last year’s performance. But things have gone from bad to worse. With only two wins so far, the team looks out of rhythm. Their batting is over-reliant on Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Klaasen hasn’t fired, and Nitish Kumar Reddy has struggled. Their bowling isn’t helping either, with Shami and Cummins leaking runs and their spinners being the least effective in the tournament. Both teams wore black armbands to pay tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, showing solidarity beyond the game.

In Match 41 of IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to field first against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The pitch is expected to favour batting, and the hot weather could make it a high-scoring game. Before the first ball was bowled, players from both teams wore black armbands to honour the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. There will be no fireworks or cheerleaders during this match as a mark of respect.

Sunrisers Hyderabad made a bold move by dropping veteran pacer Mohammed Shami from the playing XI. He has managed just 5 wickets in 7 matches and has struggled with both economy and consistency. SRH skipper Pat Cummins confirmed at the toss that Jaydev Unadkat will replace Shami in the XI. “Just one change. Jaydev Unadkat comes in and Shami goes out, who is a part of the impact list,” Cummins said.

SRH Hope to Bounce Back

Shami remains in the Impact Player list, but with SRH already playing four fast bowlers, his chances of playing in the second innings are low. Mumbai Indians also made a single change, bringing in young leg-spinner Vignesh Puthur for Ashwani Kumar. Puthur has taken 6 wickets in 4 games this season and adds variety to MI’s bowling attack. Once again, Rohit Sharma is on the Impact Player list and could be brought in to open the innings in the second half.

With only two wins this season, SRH are under pressure to deliver. Their top order needs to fire, especially Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen, if they want to put up a strong total and stay in the playoff race. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, are in great form with three consecutive wins. With key players like Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah in form, MI will be confident of extending their winning run. This game is more than just about points, it’s about pride, momentum, and playing with respect.

<![CDATA[Can Dale Steyn's prediction of SRH scoring 300 runs come true today in SRH vs MI game?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/can-dale-steyn-s-prediction-of-srh-scoring-300-runs-come-true-today-in-srh-vs-mi-game/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/can-dale-steyn-s-prediction-of-srh-scoring-300-runs-come-true-today-in-srh-vs-mi-game/ Wed, 23 Apr 2025 08:33:02 GMT

Dale Steyn’s audacious prediction back on April 17, 2025, that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) could reach 300 runs in an IPL 2025 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium never materialized, as SRH were only able to post 162/5, which MI chased down easily. Steyn, on social media platform X, humorously retracted, saying that maybe the combined scores would reach 300 instead. Today (April 23, 2025), SRH will again take on MI, this time at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. While Steyn did not explicitly predict the 300-run mark again for this match, SRH has an explosive batting group—namely Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Ishan Kishan - so there is always the enjoyment of the prediction. Also, SRH have four of the top team totals in IPL history, and earlier this season, they were able to score 286/6 against the Rajasthan Royals and scored 277/3 against MI in 2024, so chasing down a significant total is possible.

That being said, it is still difficult to reach the 300-run mark. No IPL team has ever scored 300 runs. The closest was SRH's 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2024. While Hyderabad's pitch is known to produce high scores (for example, SRH's 286/6), it's not as batter-friendly as Wankhede's flat surface, and it does not have the short boundaries. SRH's recent run of form has been inconsistent; their 162/5 tally at Wankhede indicated a slow start (76/2 in 10.1 overs) to their innings, although their chase to 246 against Punjab Kings hints at some batting recovery. MI's bowling, led by Jasprit Bumrah, performed with discipline last time, and they will be able to restrict SRH's momentum again, given they already have the inside information on this opponent.

SRH’s Batting Firepower and Home Advantage

Batting depth is SRH's most valuable weapon. Head and Sharma's ability to attack at the start, okay, along with the devastation caused by Klaasen in recent matches, means that they can dismantle any bowling attack. Their innings against Hyderabad shows what 286/6 would revive for runs at that venue. If SRH have a strong start in batting (80+ runs) and lose few wickets, then they should be on track to foot it with MI at 300, depending on whether MI's second-string bowlers allow the batting free flow. Playing in familiar conditions also adds to their memory, where they have been stronger in recent times.

“A small prediction. On April 17, we will see the first 300 runs in the IPL. Who knows, maybe I will also be there to see it,” Steyn’s tweet read.

Also Read: Cricket fraternity unites to slam Pahalgam attack – Powerful stand against terror

MI's bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah have been a challenge for SRH in recent history. Last time, MI restricted SRH perfectly, and Bumrah and Pandya took early wickets that limited their batting effort. Achieving 300 runs essentially means they will have to score and maintain a run rate of 15 per over, which is something that has never been seen in an IPL season. SRH's struggles away from home and MI's tactical nous make the prospect of 300 runs unlikely to be explored. If all of SRH's heavy hitters can bat consistently, we could see them achieve the expected 250+ score.

Sunrisers were down for this scenario with their style of play. The style of go big or go home. It works, and they still look a strong unit, but it also has huge chances of going wrong as it has this season. Concerns for them though, are more with their batters just not going big. The openers getting stuck, falling for low scores and then the bowling caliber not being sufficient to defend has been the story for them so far.

Suryakumar Yadav

MI's win against CSK was all about Rohit Sharma returning to form. Suryakumar Yadav though went unnoticed. Coming in at three, he looked as comfortable as ever in a role suited to him and his return to form could be the turn needed for MI to make a jump in the points table.

Nitish Kumar Reddy

Nitish Kumar Reddy has been a missing piece in the line-up. He hasn't set the stage alight with his strike-rate and has also struggled to hang around for the finishers to come in at a good time. His bowling is yet to be used and his form is a concern.

SRH vs MI Match Preview

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) at Uppal on Wednesday night in IPL 2025 Match 41. MI had a rough start to the season, but they have now won three in a row and are sixth in the table. SRH is still struggling, with only two wins in seven games and a lack of rhythm to their campaign. Those two victories did come at home, however, and they will be hoping that familiar conditions operate in their favor again. However, given MI's recent performance, they appear to be the more settled team going into this game.

SRH vs MI Probable Winners:

This one is likely to be decided by which team can get the most out of their batters. Sunrisers Hyderabad have the league's most dangerous top order on paper, and they will be eager to score big on a flat Uppal track. What's the problem? This season, they've also squandered strong positions with sloppy shots and unexpected collapses. However, when they get it right, as they did in their previous game, they can destroy any bowling unit under these batter-friendly conditions. Mumbai, on the other hand, has Bumrah and Boult in excellent form, and they will be difficult to dismiss. Their bowling appears to be tight, and the way they bat is also improving. MI's momentum, which includes three consecutive victories, gives them a slight advantage. Considering the team combination, Mumbai Indians is expected to win this match.
