The two-time SA20-winning captain for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Aiden Markram, will head into the auction of the SA20 season for 2025/26. He opted for the decision after asking the franchise not to retain him. Even though the franchise will have the option to get him back, using the right to match card. He was the third leading run-getter of the last season, where his side ended as the runner-up.

SA20, which is now three seasons old, has seen several marquee players being either retained or picked by the franchise in the pre-signed category. Some of the big names in the overseas lot include Nicholas Pooran, Rashid Khan, Sunil Narine, Jos Buttler, and Andre Russell. The administrators decided that every side could retain a maximum of six players from the short history.

For the first time, a wildcard option has been added which will allow the franchises to pick one player- domestic or international- for a price, which is outside the given purse. This will be the biggest auction of the event since its launch in 2022, with 72 out of a total of 102 places available for six sides to fill up. The salary cap has increased to Rand 41 million from Rand 39.1 million.

Unlike the previous editions of the SA20, where the event clashed with the ILT20 and created issues on the availability of the star players, both competitions will not overlap on this occasion as the SA20 will begin on Boxing Day (December 26) while the ILT20 window has fallen between December 02 and January 04.

The match will be played at the beautiful Newlands ground in Cape Town. SA20 Season 4 Schedule Is Out – Opener at Newlands

On Saturday, December 27, there will be the first double-header of the season. Centurion will see Pretoria Capitals play Joburg Super Kings, while Paarl Royals face Sunrisers Eastern Cape at Boland Park in Paarl. Durban’s Kingsmead Stadium will be busy just before New Year’s. It will host MI Cape Town on December 28 and Joburg Super Kings on December 30. New Year’s Eve, December 31, will have two big games. Sunrisers Eastern Cape will play Paarl Royals at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha. Later, MI Cape Town will face Pretoria Capitals at Newlands. This match will start at 9 PM IST.

The fun continues on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026. Joburg Super Kings will take on Durban’s Super Giants at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. League boss Graeme Smith said announcing the fixtures is a big step. “We’ve planned it so families can enjoy cricket during the holidays. We’re also really happy to have New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day matches for the first time,” he said.

Smith also talked about the support from India. “It’s been amazing to see how many Indian fans follow SA20. Players like Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Wiaan Mulder have become popular. India is very important to us, and we hope more fans come to South Africa for the games they won’t regret it.” The teams will pick their squads at the auction on September 9.

The action keeps going in January. On January 2, Boland Park will see a Cape derby between Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town. Both teams won all their home games last season. On January 3, there will be another double-header. Joburg Super Kings will play Sunrisers Eastern Cape at the Wanderers. Pretoria Capitals will take on Durban’s Super Giants at Centurion. The playoffs start with Qualifier 1 on January 21, the Eliminator on January 22, and Qualifier 2 on January 23. The Final will be on January 25. Venues for these matches will be announced later.
