In a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede Stadium on April 27, 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) showcased their dominance by securing a commanding 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 45 of the IPL 2025 season.

Mumbai Indians Innings

Mumbai Indians set an imposing target of 215/7 in 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first. The MI innings was built on a blistering 94-run opening stand between Ryan Rickelton (58 off 32) and Suryakumar Yadav (54 off 28), who put the Lucknow bowlers under extreme pressure. Will Jacks added 29 from 21 balls, and in the end Naman Dhir (18 off 10) and Corbin Bosch (15* off 8) finished strongly, as MI posted well over 200. The Lucknow bowling attack of Mayank Yadav (2/40) and Avesh Khan (2/42) had no answers to contain the MI middle order, and even with Ravi Bishnoi (1/41) claiming Suryakumar's wicket, MI made runs freely.

Lucknow Super Giants Innings

In reply, Lucknow Super Giants were bowled out for 161, losing by 54 runs. Ayush Badoni (35 off 22) and Mitchell Marsh (34 off 24) fought back briefly, but the Lucknow batters were never able to seize the momentum. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with 4/22, and Trent Boult (3/20) and Will Jacks (2/18) were good support. MI attacked the Super Giants, while the Lucknow batting never found their rhythm in their run chase, to help MI to a comfortable win.

Surya Eyes Another Record for Mumbai Indians

If Suryakumar Yadav gets a minimum of 54 in this IPL 2025 match, he will surpass Kieron Pollard's 3412 runs and become the second-highest run scorer for the Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Currently, Rohit Sharma is first with 5698 runs from 221 matches, including 2 hundreds and 37 fifties, and a career with MI. Surya too has played with Kolkata Knight Riders and so far has become one of the MI greats due to the eye-catching batting and dominance of matches from previous IPL seasons.

There are times when success comes quickly, and his success has indeed come quickly over time. For sure, Surya's feats say that none of his success is by coincidence - this is a combination of the player's determination, creativity, and a strong work ethic, which comes through their commitment and a lot of hard work. There will be many matches to play yet in this season, and there will be even more records that will fall, and Surya will continue to be recognized in IPL history.

After enduring a tough stretch since IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians (MI) appear to have rediscovered their rhythm just when it matters most in IPL 2025. The five-time champions had a shaky start to the season, suffering early defeats, but they’ve begun to show why they’re one of the most successful franchises in league history. Having seen both glory and failure over the years, MI has mastered the art of staying composed under pressure and responding with tactical precision.

Climbing from the bottom of the table to 6th place with three consecutive wins, MI’s resurgence has been both timely and impressive. In this article, we break down the key reasons behind their comeback.

Mentality

Mumbai Indians management is well known for its methodical game style on the field. From structuring the playing eleven to utilizing bowlers according to conditions, MI has mastered all these things. After a cruising victory against archrival Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MI batting coach Kieron Pollard revealed that they planned to use Jasprit Bumrah with the new ball against SRH and wanted to use Deepak Chahar against CSK.

Return of Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah’s absence in the early matches due to injury was a major setback for the Mumbai Indians, but his return has proven to be a turning point in their campaign. Once he regained his rhythm, Bumrah quickly reminded everyone of his match-winning abilities with impactful spells. His bowling performances have been crucial — he returned figures of 0/29 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), followed by a tight 1/21 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and a vital 2/25 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

All-rounder skipper

Mumbai Indians’ captain, Hardik Pandya, has been in exceptional form this season, contributing with both bat and ball. In just five innings, he has scored 104 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 170, demonstrating his explosive batting capabilities. In addition to his batting prowess, Pandya has claimed 11 wickets, placing him firmly in the race for the Purple Cap. His all-around performances have been crucial in tight encounters, where his timely contributions with both bat and ball have helped Mumbai stay competitive. Pandya’s ability to turn matches with his dynamic skills has proven his worth as a match-winner. His leadership, coupled with his individual brilliance, has been a key factor in Mumbai's success this season, and he continues to be a vital player for the team as they push for a playoff spot in IPL 2025.

Vintage Rohit

Rohit Sharma is steadily regaining his form, with his brilliant knock of 76* off 46 balls being exactly what Mumbai Indians required to lay a solid foundation at the top of their batting order. This innings highlighted his ability to anchor the innings and build partnerships, something MI has relied on for success. Alongside him, Ryan Rickelton has shown encouraging signs of being able to deliver match-winning performances. His promising starts indicate that he could be the explosive partner Rohit needs at the top. Together, the opening duo holds the potential to dominate any bowling attack, creating a strong platform for MI's middle order to capitalize on. If both Rohit and Rickelton continue in this form, they can prove to be a formidable force in the tournament, taking on some of the toughest bowling lineups in IPL 2025. This partnership could be a game-changer for MI as they aim for the playoffs.

Swashbuckling Suryakumar

Suryakumar Yadav has regained his confidence and form in the middle order, showcasing his trademark 360° hitting abilities. The Mumbai Indians' star batter has been crucial in stabilizing the innings and accelerating when needed. His match-winning knock of an unbeaten 68* off just 30 balls against Chennai Super Kings stands out as his best performance of IPL 2025 so far. Suryakumar's ability to adapt to various situations and play innovative shots has been pivotal in MI's resurgence. His aggressive batting style has been a game-changer, helping the team set strong totals and chase challenging targets. With his current form, he remains a key player for MI as they push for a spot in the playoffs. If he continues this momentum, Suryakumar's contributions could be the driving force behind Mumbai Indians' successful campaign this season.

The Indian cricket team wrapped up their T20I series against Bangladesh in emphatic style, clinching a dominant 133-run victory in the third and final match in Hyderabad. Winning the toss, captain Suryakumar Yadav opted to bat first, and the Indian batters put on a masterclass, posting a colossal total of 297/6—the highest-ever T20I score by a Test-playing nation. Sanju Samson led the charge with a breathtaking maiden T20I century, scoring 111 off just 47 balls. His partnership with Suryakumar (75 off 35) produced a monumental 173-run stand for the second wicket, leaving Bangladesh's bowlers hapless on a night where nothing went their way.

Despite losing both Samson and Suryakumar in quick succession, India maintained their momentum with explosive finishes from Hardik Pandya (47 off 18) and Riyan Parag (34 off 13), adding vital runs in the death overs. Bangladesh, who had been outclassed in all departments throughout the series, crumbled under the pressure once again, failing to put up a fight in the chase. India's comprehensive win not only secured a clean sweep but also marked their third-biggest victory margin in T20Is, sending the team into celebration mode as they dominated the series from start to finish.

Decoding India's Explosive Batting Display in the Final T20I

India's dominating performance against Bangladesh in the final T20I of the 2024 series was exemplified by their incredible ability to clear the boundary at will. The above image provides a breakdown of India’s six-hitting prowess during their mammoth total of 297/6. It captures the key contact points where the batters connected with the ball to send it flying over the ropes for sixes, highlighting just how aggressively the Indian top-order and middle-order approached the game. These sixes played a pivotal role in setting up India's third-largest victory margin in T20Is.

The image reveals that a significant number of sixes were hit from deliveries pitched in a particular zone around the stumps. As indicated by the 54.5% figure on the image, more than half of the sixes came from balls in this primary hitting arc. The orange dots represent where Indian batters connected with the ball to launch their sixes, and they are densely concentrated in this highlighted area. This shows that the Bangladesh bowlers frequently bowled within the range where Indian batters could swing freely and clear the boundary with ease.

The variety of six-hitting points, however, also illustrates the versatility of the Indian batters. While many sixes came from the traditional off-stump region, several were struck from deliveries that were wide outside off or full-pitched deliveries closer to the stumps. This reflects the adaptability of the batters, as they could take on different types of deliveries and still find ways to muscle the ball for maximum runs. The spread of contact points across the graph showcases India’s all-round aggression, with players using innovative strokes to maximize run-scoring opportunities.

This aggressive approach was led by Sanju Samson, who struck a maiden T20I century (111 off 47), and captain Suryakumar Yadav, who contributed a quick-fire 75 off 35 balls. Together, they stitched a massive 173-run partnership that laid the foundation for India's record-breaking score. The sixes highlighted in the graph are a testament to their dominance, as they consistently found ways to dispatch the ball to the boundary, keeping Bangladesh’s bowlers under constant pressure.

In conclusion, the above image captures the essence of India’s T20I batting blueprint—brutal aggression, a fearless mindset, and an ability to hit sixes from varied deliveries. India’s clinical display of power-hitting helped them post a colossal total, which ultimately paved the way for a massive 133-run victory, completing a clean sweep of the series. The graph not only serves as a visual representation of the match's carnage but also as a reflection of how India has mastered the art of attacking T20 cricket.

Indian batters had no mercy in the last game of the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh at Hyderabad, as the hosts recorded the second-highest total in T20I cricket history.

Leading the series by 2-0, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav chose to bat first, and India scored 297/6 in 20 overs.

Although the opening batter Abhishek Sharma was dismissed in the third over after scoring four runs, the Indian batters then totally dominated the Bangladesh bowlers.

Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav had a 173-run partnership

India scored 82/1 in the powerplay and scored 100 runs in 7.1 overs. When India scored 119/1 in 8.3 overs, the floodlight failure stopped the game for a while. Before that stoppage, Samson had already completed his half-century in 22 balls.

In the restart, the Indian batters continued their bashing. In the 10th over, Samson thrashed the leg-spinner Rishad Hossain for five consecutive sixes.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav completed his half-century in 23 balls, while Samson completed his maiden T20I hundred and fourth T20 century in just 40 balls. Samson became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to record a T20I century, and he also recorded India's second-fastest T20I hundred.

After scoring 111 off 47 balls with the help of 11 fours and eight sixes, Samson was dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman. Before his wicket, Samson and Suryakumar had an unforgettable 173-run partnership for the second wicket.

While Samson was dismissed in the 14th over, Suryakumar was out in the next over after scoring 75 runs off 35 balls with the help of eight fours and five sixes.

Riyan Parag and Hardik Pandya utilised the situation perfectly

Despite their dismissal, the next Indian batters continued the run flow as the visitors had no clue. Riyan Parag and Hardik Pandya had a quick-fire 70-run partnership in just 4.1 overs for the fourth wicket.

Parag scored 34 runs off just 13 balls with one four and four sixes. On the other hand, Hardik scored 47 runs off 18 balls with four fours and four sixes.

Among the Bangladesh bowlers, Tanzim Hasan Sakib took three wickets and finished with the bowling figures of 4-0-66-3. Out of his three wickets, he picked up two wickets in consecutive deliveries during the last over of the innings.
