Absolutely ravishing! Sam Curran caught an outstanding catch. He caught a catch on his own bowling and suddenly shifted the complexion of the match. In match 126 of T20 Blast, the England all-rounder left everyone's jaw dropping. He delivered and took a catch himself, one-handed—the whole process happened so flawlessly that the unusual event seemed well rehearsed.

It was Sussex County Cricket Club vs. Surrey County Cricket Club. In their 20-over limit, Surrey posted 204 runs, batting first. The total was sufficient to throw a tough challenge against any opponent, but Sussex batters were in no mood to surrender. With their opener Daniel Hughes, they started to bat fearlessly, though they tried to remain risk-free as much as possible. But chasing a mammoth total has never been an easy task for any team on the planet.

James Coles was batting vigorously until Sam Curran's 4th delivery of the 19th over of the second innings, while the second batting team poised the game nicely through their hard-hitting game strategy. But chasing a target in the second innings is never an easy go for the team chasing. Coles was in a hurry scoring runs. Whenever he saw a delivery within his territory, he tried to swing the blade. The right-handed batter did the same when Curran delivered one of the luring balls of the match.

The moment of the match shifted

It was a full toss, guided towards the middle stump. Driven by his natural instinct, Coles hit the ball hard. The ball was about to go straight through like an arrow when Curran, the skipper of Surrey, extended his left arm on the path of the ball. The connection between the ball and the bat was not inch-perfect; speed was not top-mark. Curran extended his hand at the right time, and the ball went into his grip smoothly.

Coles departed after scoring 39 off 18. After his dismissal, with a limited number of deliveries before the conclusion of the game, no other Sussex batter came up. Surrey won the match by 7 runs.

<![CDATA[Jos Buttler celebrates epic milestone during T20 Blast 2025 against Yorkshire]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/jos-buttler-celebrates-epic-milestone-during-t20-blast-2025-against-yorkshire/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/jos-buttler-celebrates-epic-milestone-during-t20-blast-2025-against-yorkshire/ Fri, 18 Jul 2025 17:02:13 GMT

The former England white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, who resigned from the leadership after the end of a poor campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025, has celebrated an epic record in the shortest format of the game during the second-last group-stage clash for Lancashire against Yorkshire in the T20 Blast contest at Leeds in Headingley.

Buttler has been a successful performer with the bat in various T20 leagues around the globe. Since his resumption in the IPL, he has been a regular and vital member of the Rajasthan Royals and later on the Gujarat Titans. The England batter has smashed overall 4120 runs in 119 innings at an average of 40 and a strike rate of nearly 150, thanks to seven centuries and 24 fifties at the best score of 124 runs.

In the recent season, the right-handed batter clubbed 538 runs in 13 innings at an average of nearly 60 and a strike rate of 163, with five fifties. The Taunton-born becomes the second England batter to celebrate 13000 runs in the T20s, alongside the former opener, Alex Hales. Buttler now has drilled 13046 runs in 431 innings at a strike rate of 145.97, thanks to 93 fifties and eight centuries at the best score of 124.

Buttler walked out to bat in the fourth over of the innings when the Roses lost their captain, Keaton Jennings, for seven runs. Phil Salt smashed 42 runs in 29 balls, but none of the batters were able to give a good hand to the former national captain, who kept nailing the boundaries from one end.

Buttler finished with 77 runs in 46 balls against the Dawid Malan-led side to carry them to 174 in 19.5 overs. The home side was never in the chase from the start and got rolled over for 153 runs in 19.1 overs, with only Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique collecting a fine knock of 54 runs in 34 balls at a strike rate of 158.82. With the victory, Lancashire qualifies for the home quarter-final of the tournament.

Buttler becomes the seventh cricketer to breach 13000 T20 runs. The topper of the list is the left-handed West Indies opener, Chris Gayle, who has smashed 14562 runs. Alex Hales is third on the list with 13814 runs.

<![CDATA[Bizarre reason halts T20 blast match between Kent vs Gloucestershire in Canterbury: Know the reason why?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bizarre-reason-halts-t20-blast-match-between-kent-vs-gloucestershire-in-canterbury-know-the-reason-why/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bizarre-reason-halts-t20-blast-match-between-kent-vs-gloucestershire-in-canterbury-know-the-reason-why/ Thu, 19 Jun 2025 18:49:46 GMT

Cricket has seen its share of strange interruptions in the past, and another bizarre moment unfolded during the T20 Blast South Group match between Kent Spitfires and Gloucestershire at St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. On Wednesday night, play was suddenly interrupted—not by rain or poor light, but by sunshine. The stoppage came while Gloucestershire was chasing a low total of 158-run target, when the players were forced off the field because of excessive sunlight right in the line of the batters.

The stoppage took place at 8:15 PM local time with Gloucestershire safely at 29/0 in 3.2 overs.
Openers Miles Hammond and D'Arcy Short were compelled to leave the field as the sun made it unsafe to spot the ball. The holdup took around eight minutes before action picked up. Gloucestershire Cricket took to social media to honor the unusual halt, commenting, “Sun stops play. Rather than rain, the sun is in the eyes of the batters... For the safety of the players, the sides have come off the pitch.”

When play did resume, Gloucestershire chased down their target with relative ease. Skipper Jack Taylor led by example, contributing a quick 54 from 36 balls, and Oliver Price chipped in support with 41 from 31 balls.
The team chased down the score in 18.2 overs, ending up with a comfortable seven-wicket victory.

Rare Case of "Sun Stops Play"

Interestingly, this wasn't the earliest occasion the sun had interrupted a cricket match. A similar situation happened at McLean Park, Napier, in the 3rd T20I between New Zealand and Pakistan in 2020, when sunlight affected visibility for batters and compelled the match to be delayed until sunset. The same problem was documented at the same ground in January 2019 in an ODI between New Zealand and India.

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, the Kent Spitfires racked up 157/9 from their 20 overs after choosing to bat first. Harry Finch led the charge with 42, and skipper Sam Billings contributed 38, to post what appeared to be a competitive total—before "sun stopped play" emerged as the surprising headline.

<![CDATA[[WATCH]: James Anderson Shines at 42, Takes 3 Wickets for 17 Runs in T20 Blast]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-james-anderson-shines-at-42-takes-3-wickets-for-17-runs-in-t20-blast/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-james-anderson-shines-at-42-takes-3-wickets-for-17-runs-in-t20-blast/ Mon, 02 Jun 2025 17:43:29 GMT

There is a saying in English: “Age is just a number.” This means age does not really matter. Sometimes we see rare people around the world who prove age wrong by doing amazing things we do not expect. We find such stories in almost every sport, including cricket. In IPL 2025, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi and 43-year-old MS Dhoni both showed this. But there is another legendary cricketer making waves at age 42. His name is James Anderson.

James Anderson may have retired from international cricket, but at the age of 42, he is still troubling batsmen with his bowling. After leaving international matches, he is now playing in domestic cricket and showing the same skills. In the T20 Blast tournament in England, Anderson gave a strong performance once again. He bowled with great control and took 3 wickets while giving only 17 runs.

James Anderson is known for his red-ball bowling, but this time he impressed everyone in T20 cricket. He returned to this format after almost 10 years. Playing for Lancashire against Durham, he bowled 4 overs, gave just 17 runs, and took 3 important wickets. His bowling reminded fans of his old days. He dismissed Durham’s top three batsmen and did not allow them to score freely.

Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings won the toss and chose to bowl first. Anderson came to bowl the third over of the innings and dismissed Graham Clark and Alex Lees. Later, he came back in the 11th over and got Colin Ackerman out. In total, Anderson gave away just 17 runs in 4 overs and took 3 wickets with an economy rate of 4.25.

Durham made 150 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Chasing this target, Lancashire won the match on the last ball. Michael Jones played an important innings of 55 runs in 39 balls, and Chris Green scored 15 runs in just 8 balls. With their efforts, Lancashire won the match by 4 wickets.
