Riley Meredith generated express pace to obliterate a stump in half during the South Group Vitality T20 Blast fixture between Somerset and Essex.

Australian speedster Riley Meredith extracted some serious pace in a recent South Group fixture of the Vitality T20 Blast 2025 between Somerset and Essex. Meredith, who is currently featuring for Somerset this season, produced an annihilating yorker which split the stump in two halves. He subsequently went on to play a crucial role in helping Somerset achieve a commanding 95-run victory, finishing with figures of 2 for 22 in his two-over spell.

The extraordinary scene unfolded during the third over of the Essex run chase. Tasked with chasing a mammoth total of 226, Essex had to hit the ground running right from the get-go. As a result, the batters had to adopt a fearless and risk-taking mindset. Essex opener Michael Pepper was facing up to Meredith, and as fate would have it, the yorker turned out to be too good for him.

In an attempt to take Meredith downtown, Pepper backed away to the legside and exposed all three stumps. The opener was comprehensively deceived in the air as the ball shaped away from him at ferocious pace. In the end, Pepper not only lost his leg stump, but also saw his leg stump split into two. While one piece of the stump remained rooted to the ground, the other flew off after making contact with the ball and landed behind the wicket.

The reaction of the on-air commentators was priceless, with one reportedly stating that the broken portion of the stump needs to be captured in a frame. Evidently, the broken stump was replaced by another backup stump, which was available at the time of the game. But occurrences like these have been far and between in modern-day cricket.

See also: Vitality Blast: WOR vs NOT Prediction, Who will win today?

Watch the video:

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Vitality Blast (@vitalityblast)

Previously, in the first innings, Somerset managed to put on a show with the bat. Essex were thoroughly outplayed by the pace attack of Somerset. The Gujarat Cricket Association reportedly all prepared to announce their own version of the T20 league. The decision about the tournament has already been finalized, but multiple key decisions are yet to be taken, as per the media reports.

After the invention of the Indian Premier League (IPL), various franchise-centric T20 leagues emerged. Keeping the possible prospects in various ways, as these kinds of leagues can prove fruitful for business purposes also, multiple states in India have been operating their own T20 leagues. The Tamil Nadu Premier League, T20 League Mumbai, and Madhya Pradesh Premiere League are some of the popular state-based Twenty20 leagues.

These kinds of tournaments have proven their usefulness by producing many talents over the years. These regional tournaments provide the required platform for the young stars to showcase their talents so that teams on the higher level can spot them. Aniket Verma earned an IPL contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad after impressive performances in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League (MPL). Through these tournaments, local players get the chance to share a dressing room with star or well-known players.

Read More: South Africa tour of Zimbabwe 2025 1st Test: Live streaming & where to watch

Multiple decisions to be taken before conclusion

According to a report published by Cricbuzz, the Gujarat Cricket Association is planning to introduce its own T20 league in the 2025-26 season. GCA secretary Anil Patel confirmed that the decision has been made, but details like the tournament window, format, and number of participating teams are not finalized.

Finding the appropriate window for a new league can be critical for the Gujarat Cricket Association. In most cases, the state-run leagues begin after the conclusion of the IPL. Despite all the glitters, there are multiple reports that claim that investors found it difficult to make a profit from these leagues.

Meerut Kings stun the world by pulling off a miraculous win from the jaws of defeat by chasing 41 runs in the final over of the game.

Absolute scenes of carnage ensued in the Pro Corporate League in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). As unbelievable as it may sound, the Meerut Kings have managed to do the unthinkable by chasing down a whopping 41 runs in the final six balls of the run chase. Such an instance of this kind has never been recorded in men's professional T20 cricket. Mathematically, 36 runs is the most a batting team can extract if six legal deliveries are bowled. But Meerut Kings' batters, primarily featuring Shubham and Anuj, shattered all records and unleashed hell on the bowling team to register an unbelievable win.

The Meerut Kings now have the record for scoring the most number of runs in an over in T20 cricket. The record was previously held by Samoa's Darius Visser, who scored 39 runs off Vanuatu's Nalin Nipiko in an over during the 2026 T20 World Cup regional qualifier in Apia. The legendary Yuvraj Singh was the first batter to smash six consecutive sixes in an over. His record remained intact for nearly two decades before being eclipsed by the Nalin Nipiko and the destructive batting duo of Merrut Kings.

See also: TNPL 2025: SMP vs TRO, 23rd Match Prediction, Who will win today?

Watch the carnage unfold:

they required 41 runs in one over and the batsman chased down the score 🔥 pic.twitter.com/bQhlC4MouL
— Sunil the Cricketer (@1sInto2s) June 24, 2025

The game went all the way down the wire with the Meerut Kings needing 41 more runs in the final over to taste victory. At this point, Meerut looked certainly out of contention and resorted solely to a miracle. With six wickets down, the bowling team was cruising along to a comfortable win. A left-arm spinner was brought on to finish off the job. His only job was to avoid extras. But after being hit for a six first ball, the bowler lost his composure, and the no-balls in his subsequent deliveries turned out to be disastrous for his side.

Shubham, while on strike, dispatched the first ball over long off for a six by effectively using his feet. His second six came off a long hop delivery. Shubham went deep in his crease and swung his bat hard to deposit it over long on for a massive six. His next six came off a waist-high no-ball, which he effortlessly dealt with by slogging it over deep mid-wicket.

Halfway through the over, the equation was still very much in favor of the bowling side at this stage. With Meerut still needing another 22 off three, Shubham never looked like stopping. He made the most of the free-hit delivery by getting underneath a juicy half-volley ball and tonking it downtown for another six. His finishing six came in the final ball of the over when he targeted the cow corner boundary and cleared it with ease by taking his side through to the final.

Such an onslaught left the bowling team dumbfounded and shell-shocked. Although such instances of brilliance are a rarity in modern-day cricket. However, when it does occur, it leaves ardent fans in disbelief.

Luck seemed to be on the side of Vicky Ostwal as he not only survived an obvious run out but also managed to get his side over the finishing line.

A hard-fought battle unfolded at the MCA Stadium in Pune as it geared up to host the high-octane Eliminator clash of the Maharashtra Premier League 2025 between Raigad Royals and Kolhapur Tuskers. In this epic thriller, a bizarre incident came to light as a result of a comical fielding lapse committed by the Kolhapur Tuskers.

During the run chase, Raigad Royals' Vicky Ostwal rode his luck to escape a run-out scare. Facing up to Atman Pore, Ostwal played a solid-looking back-foot punch shot through the offside and managed to pierce the gap between the two fielders at cover. The ball was not entirely timed out of the middle of the bat, but the second run was certainly on the cards.

What should have been a routine exercise turned out to be an absolute nightmare. While turning for the second run, Ostwal bumped into his partner, and as a result, both of them instantly hit the ground upon impact. Funnily enough, Kolhapur Tuskers let this opportunity slip through their fingers. The throw came to the keeper's end when Ostwal was miles out of his crease.

Instead of whipping the bails at his end, he made an unusual move to pass the ball back to the bowler. Pore failed to collect the ball cleanly, and by the time he broke the stumps, the batter was in. However, the possibility of Ostwal being run out loomed large as he was still at the center of the pitch. But that chance also went begging. The fielder who collected the ball started running to the striker's end. Upon seeing that, Ostwal also started running with the bat in his hand. After making some ground, the Tuskers aimed at the stumps but missed them by some distance. But with no one backing up at the striker's end, Ostwal was harmlessly able to make his ground without even breaking a sweat.

See also: MPL 2025, Qualifier 1: Eagle Nashik Titans vs Puneri Bappa Full Match Highlights

Watch how Ostwal survived the run out:

Collided, but never gave up — still made the crease! ✅

Vicky Ostwal.

India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is in London undergoing treatment for a sports hernia, keeping him away from cricketing action for the next few weeks. The right-handed batsman, who is celebrated for his flamboyant strokeplay, is making use of the breather in India's limited-overs schedule to get his fitness sorted and ensure he comes back fully fit. News24 reports that the surgery on the right side of his abdomen is set to take place next week, and a tentative return is planned around August.

As Suryakumar recovers abroad, the Indian Test squad, captained by Shubman Gill, is deep in training for the forthcoming five-match home Test series against England. India's T20I pillar in the last few years, Yadav, 34, is likely to return to the side in time for the white-ball tour of Bangladesh in August. Though BCCI hasn't announced the development officially, reports suggest the healing from the medical procedure could take nearly two months.

The move to undergo surgery at this point seems timely. India does not have another T20 assignment until August, which will provide Suryakumar with the recovery time required for a complete recovery before a cluttered T20 schedule featuring home series against South Africa and the West Indies, as well as a crucial tour of Australia leading into the 2026 T20 World Cup.

IPL Heroics and Recent Form

Prior to when his injury issues arose, Suryakumar was scorching hot throughout the IPL 2025 campaign. At the top of the batting list for Mumbai Indians, he had scored 717 runs in 16 matches at a mind-boggling average of 65.18 and strike rate of 167.9. Most notably, he had scored 25+ in all 16 innings—a T20 world record for consistency at the highest level.

See Also: Watch: Najmul Hossain Shanto's celebration after smashing his sixth century in SL vs BAN 1st Test

Post-IPL, he played for Triumph Knights MNE in the Mumbai T20 League but with less success. The side posted only one win in five games and did not make it to the playoffs, with Suryakumar scoring 122 runs in five matches. Apart from this temporary decline, his overall game is an essential strength as India makes its way to the T20 World Cup plan.

West Indies emerged victorious in the final T20I on the back of some explosive batting to take the series 1-0.

At last, the rain stayed away and the West Indies triumphed against Ireland in the third and final T20I at Bready to clinch the series 1-0. The weather stayed clear and, much to the visitors' delight, their in-form batters went berserk, punishing the Irish bowlers mercilessly. In what turned out to be a high-voltage thriller, the West Indies, while batting first, mounted an astronomical score of 256 for the loss of five wickets, making it their second-highest T20I score. Evin Lewis (91 off 44) and Shai Hope (51 off 27) were the top performers with the bat for the Men in Maroon, while Akeal Hosein emerged as the pick of the bowlers, returning economical figures of 3-27.

There was not much to cherish from the Irish point of view. Apart from Humphreys, who went at just 4 RPO while picking up two wickets, the rest of the Irish bowlers went for plenty, with every bowler going at more than 12 RPO. Ireland, in response, tried to stage a counter-attack in the second half, but the target proved way beyond their reach and they comfortably fell short by 62 runs.

See also: West Indies vs Australia: Jamaica’s Sabina Park Eyes Pink-Ball Test

West Indies Innings

The West Indies started off their innings in a dominating fashion. The WI openers Lewis and Hope got the visitors off to a flyer, piling on 122 runs within the first 11 overs. The Irish bowlers, especially Liam McCarthy, were taken aback early doors by the incredible hitting and simply had no answers to the onslaught. Hope played a composed knock of 51, while Lewis was the aggressor, hammering 91 and narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century. The duo hit a combined 12 sixes and 11 fours which completly crippled the Irish bowling attack by the halfway stage.

Ireland, on the other hand, didn’t have the ideal start, conceding a few loose deliveries that the Men in Maroon were quick to capitalize on. But during the middle overs, they did try to exert some control with the ball, chipping in with a few quick wickets. But that did not seem to have a great deal of impact on the WI innings as Keacy Carty had an impressive T20I debut, finishing unbeaten on 49 in just 22 balls. Romario Shepherd added the finishing touches with a flurry of boundaries, which helped the Windies surge past the 250-run mark in blazing style.

Ireland Innings

In pursuit of their humongous target of 257, Ireland suffered an early blow, losing their captain, Paul Stirling, in only the second over of the run chase. But following that dismissal, a steady 101-run partnership between Ross Adair (48) and Harry Tector (38) followed, which somewhat revived the faint hopes of a potential Irish win. But they were still way behind in the run chase, with the asking rate nearly touching 16 RPO at the halfway stage. After that brief fightback, both Ross and Tector were removed in quick succession in the space of just four balls.

Their quick departures meant a disastrous middle-order collapse, and Ireland never quite recovered. Despite some late resistance from George Dockrell (15 off 8), Mark Adair (31 off 14), and Liam McCarthy (16 off 15) in the lower order, the task proved too tall. The Windies bowlers were able to get themselves back into business after overcoming a resilient stand between Ross and Tector. Once that partnership was broken, the West Indies never offered any realistic opportunity for Ireland to make a comeback. Akeal Hosein led the bowling effort for the visitors and starred with an impressive three-wicket haul, while Jason Holder, Roston Chase, and Romario Shepherd chipped in with key breakthroughs at crucial moments.

Ireland vs West Indies: Match Scorecard

West Indies – 256/5 (20 Overs)

<colgroup><col><col><col><col></colgroup>

Batting

Runs (Balls)

Bowling

Wickets/Runs (Overs)

Evin Lewis

91 (44)

Matthew Humphreys

2-16 (4)

Shai Hope

51 (27)

Ben White

1-50 (4)

Keacy Carty

49 (22)

Mark Adair

1-52(4)

Ireland – 194/7 (20 Overs)

<colgroup><col><col><col><col></colgroup>

Batting

Runs (Balls)

Bowling

Wickets/Runs (Overs)

Ross Adair

48 (36)

Akeal Hosein

3-27 (4)

Harry Tector

38 (25)

Romario Shepherd

1-23 (3)

Mark Adair

31 (14)

Jason Holder

2-49 (4)

England concluded the series on a high, beating the West Indies convincingly by 37 runs to take the series 3-0.

England crushed the West Indies and registered a thumping 3-0 series win on the back of a convincing 37-run victory at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Tuesday. In a show of brute dominance, the batters on both sides went all guns blazing. It was certainly a painful outing for the bowlers as massive fireworks ensued and the ball travelled to all parts. A blistering display from the English openers, Jamie Smith (60 off 26) and Ben Duckett (84 off 46), lifted England to 248—their second-highest total in T20I history. The West Indies, in response, displayed a spirited fightback. Rovman Powell (79 off 45) and Shimron Hetmyer (26 off 8) showcased extraordinary brilliance, but the Windies fell comprehensively short of their desired target.

England Innings

After being inserted to bat, openers Ben Duckett and Jamie Smith launched a ferocious assault on the Windies bowlers, registering a dominant 120-run stand inside just nine overs. Smith blazed his way to 60 before falling, while Duckett continued the onslaught with a scintillating 84 off 46 balls. By the halfway stage of the innings, England had reached the score of 135-1 which became their highest score in T20I cricket after 10 overs. Contributions from Jos Buttler, Harry Brook, and Jacob Bethell kept the momentum going, propelling England to the brink of the 250-run mark.

England’s batters came out all guns blazing, leaving the West Indies with few answers in the early exchanges. However, to their credit, the visitors pulled things back nicely after the halfway mark, stringing together some quiet overs and picking up key wickets to stem the flow. Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, and Sherfane Rutherford chipped in with a wicket each, while Jason Holder impressed with a tidy spell at the death.

West Indies Innings

Chasing a record 249 for a consolation win was always going to be a tough ask for the visitors. The West Indies stumbled early, losing both openers within the first five overs. While Shimron Hetmyer and Jason Holder offered brief resistance, it was Shai Hope (45) and Rovman Powell (unbeaten 79) who provided the only substantial fight. Despite their efforts, the Men in Maroon fell well short, outplayed by a disciplined and clinical English side. The English bowlers did go for a few runs but picked up timely wickets along the way, which kept them alive in the game.

Besides, some helpful contributions from Hetmyer (26 off 8) and Holder (25 off 12) did help West Indies get close to their target but the constant fall of wickets kept pegging them back. Luke Wood led the way for England with an impressive three-wicket haul (3-41), while Rashid, Carse, Dawson, and Bethell each contributed with key breakthroughs.

See also: IRE vs WI, 2025: Ireland vs West Indies, 1st T20I Match Preview

England vs West Indies: Match Scorecard

England – 248/3 (20 Overs)

<colgroup><col><col><col><col></colgroup>

Batting

Runs (Balls)

Bowling

Wickets/Runs (Overs)

Ben Duckett

60 (26)

Sherfane Rutherford

1-20 (2)

Jamie Smith

84 (46)

Akeal Hosein

1-42 (4)

Jacob Bethell

36 (16)

Gudakesh Motie

1-44 (4)

West Indies – 211/8 (20 Overs)

<colgroup><col><col><col><col></colgroup>

Batting

Runs (Balls)

Bowling

Wickets/Runs (Overs)

Rovman Powell

79 (45)

Luke Wood

3-31 (4)

Shai Hope

45 (27)

Adil Rashid

2-30 (4)

Shimron Hetmyer

26 (8)

Liam Dawson

1-34 (4)

The three-match T20I series will run from June 12 to June 15.

Ireland and the West Indies are slated to clash in a three-match T20I series starting on June 12 at Bredy. The series will conclude on June 15. All three matches will be hosted in the Bready Cricket Club ground in Magheramason, Bready. Ireland previously hosted the West Indies in a three-match ODI series last month, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Ireland come 11th in the ICC Men's T20I Team rankings. Their last victory in this format came against South Africa in September last year. The Adair brothers rose up to the occasion and took the Proteas by surprise to register only their second T20I win against them. They managed to level that series 1-1 but went on to face defeat in their subsequent T20I series against Zimbabwe. It was a series that was severely impacted by rain, and Ireland lost a solitary game to lose the series 1-0.

However, the hosts have a formidable win record against the West Indies in this format, having three of their six T20I fixtures (excluding two abandoned games) against them. But the wait for a series victory is on, and the home side would be hoping that wait comes to an end. George Dockrell looks to be in remarkable form of late, having scored 151 runs in 10 matches at a healthy average of 37.75. Mark Adair on the other hand, has been in prolific form with the ball, accounting for 13 wickets in the last seven games.

Meanwhile, the West Indies are having the worst possible time in this format. They are coming into this series on the back of a humiliating 3-0 defeat against England in both ODI as well as T20I formats. The Men in Maroon have not tasted win in this format since November last year and are in the midst of a seven-match losing streak. The team can't come to terms after suffering a shocking 3-0 whitewash against Bangladesh at home in late 2024.

And to further compound their problems, their global T20 icon, Nicholas Pooran, announced a sudden retirement and will no longer be a part of the national setup any longer. Brandon King, Andre Russell, and Roston Chase are the other three Windies players who will miss out on the Ireland leg. Despite being ranked much higher than Ireland in the ICC Men's T20I Team rankings (fifth), the West Indies enter the series as underdogs. Rovman Powell has been the highest run scorer for the Windies in recent times, slamming 329 runs in 100 games at a stunning strike rate of 144. Akeal Hosein has been a very reliable bowler for them, picking up 10 wickets in his last seven games while maintaining an economy rate of 7.04 RPO.

See also: SA vs AUS Dream11 Prediction WTC Final Fantasy Cricket Tips World Test Championship, 2025

Match Details

<colgroup><col><col></colgroup>

Match

Ireland vs West Indies, 1st T20I, 2025

Venue

Bready Cricket Club, Magheramason, Bready

Date & Time (IST)

Thursday, June 12, 7:30 PM

Live Broadcast and Streaming Details

Fancode App

Pitch Report

The deck at Bready Cricket Club offers balanced assistance to both bowlers and batsmen alike.
