Major League Cricket is getting a lot of traction these days as some of the best T20 performers are participating in the tournament. The third edition of this League recently concluded, but it is witnessing an impressive rise in its popularity. The 2025 season witnessed some intriguing contests between some of the best sides in the League. It also witnessed some of the best bowling performances from some of the best T20 bowlers in world cricket.

In this piece, we highlight about three bowlers who registered the best bowling figures by taking wickets during crucial moments of the game that changed the fate of a particular game. The bowlers mentioned in the list possessed different skills as far as their ability to adjust their length and variety as per different playing conditions and wickets, but they were the game changers for their respective sides. We discuss these bowlers in detail:

1.Mitchell Owen (5/17 - Washington Freedom vs San Francisco Unicorns- 29th of June 2025)

Mitchell Owen is among the upcoming talents in the Australian cricket set-up. The all-rounder impressed with his pace and clever seam movement. The 23-year-old caused problems for the batters with his slower ones.

He registered figures of 5/17 against San Francisco Unicorns on the 28th of June 2025, taking a crucial wicket of opener Matt Short. He claimed 14 wickets in the entire season. The right-arm medium pacer took crucial wickets when needed for Washington Freedom. His performance helped Washington Freedom win by 12 runs.

2.Adam Milne (5/23- Texas Super Kings vs Seattle Orcas-6th of July 2025)

The New Zealand pacer bowled brilliantly against Seattle Orcas on the 6th of July 2025, where his pace and bounce were too hot to handle for the Seattle Orcas batters. The 33-year-old pacer registered figures of 5/23 for Texas Super Kings against Seattle Orcas on the 6th of July 2025.

His length, combined with his late swing, troubled the Seattle Orcas batters. Texas Super Kings scored 188/5 in 20 overs batting first, and Milne's performance helped TSK win by 51 runs at the Central Broward Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida. He claimed 14 wickets in the entire season. Milne took the crucial wicket of former Australian opener David Warner.

3.Trent Boult (4/17- Mumbai Indians New York vs Los Angeles Knight Riders- 3rd July 2025)

The former New Zealand pacer showed excellent bowling performances under pressure, taking key wickets at regular intervals with his swing and pace. His ability to swing the ball both ways is amazing. 

Boult registered figures of 4/17 for the Mumbai Indians New York against the Los Angeles Knight Riders on the 3rd of July 2025 at Central Broward Regional Park, Lauderhill, Florida. Mumbai Indians won the match chasing a target of 155 by 8 wickets. He claimed crucial wickets of Unmukt Chand and Andre Russell. Boult showed his experience during pressure situations,Mitchell  claiming 15 wickets in the entire season..

The MLC 2025 final took place between MI New York and Washington Freedom at Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas. Washington won the toss and decided to bowl in order to chase under lights. MI New York posted a solid total with some key knocks from Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel. Their bowlers then held their nerve in a tight finish to win the title by 5 runs.

MI New York Innings

Batting first in the final, MI New York posted a challenging total of 180/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Quinton de Kock played a fantastic innings, anchoring the effort with 77 runs off 46 balls, hitting boundaries at will. Monank Patel gave him some solid support with a quickfire of 28 from 22 balls, which helped keep the momentum. in the finishing stages, Kunwarjeet Singh provided 22 off 13 balls to lift the score close to 180. Washington’s bowlers tried to fight back, with Lockie Ferguson delivering an impressive spell of 3/21 from his 4 overs. Ian Holland (1/14 in 2) and Saurabh Netravalkar (1/31 in 4) provided tight overs during the middle stages, but the MI batters did enough to set a defendable target.

Washington Freedom Innings

In reply, Washington Freedom provided a spirited chase but ultimately fell just short, finishing at 175/5 in their 20 overs. Rachin Ravindra scored an untroubled 70 runs from 41 deliveries and provided a solid foundation. Glenn Phillips finished with a confident 48 off 34 and looked to have tilted the game Freedom's way. Jack Edwards chipped in with a handy 33 off 22 in the middle order. However, MI New York’s bowling attack held its nerve under pressure. Trent Boult led from the front with 2/32, while Rushil Ugarkar also claimed 2/32 to keep the chase in check. Nosthush Kenjige (1/30 in 3 overs) bowled crucial overs at the death to close out a thrilling final.

In a do-or-die clash, MI New York won the toss and chose to bowl first against the San Francisco Unicorns. The Unicorns didn’t get off to a great start and kept losing wickets regularly. Only Xavier Bartlett showed some fight, smashing a quick 44 off 24 balls. Cooper Connolly (23 off 19) and Brody Couch (19 off 18) gave some support, but the rest of the batting didn’t click.

MI New York’s bowlers were disciplined throughout the innings. Rushil Ugarkar stood out with an excellent spell of 3 for 19 in just over three overs. Trent Boult and Nosthush Kenjige chipped in with two wickets each as San Francisco were bowled out for just 131 in 19.1 overs. The chase wasn’t easy for MI either. Quinton de Kock gave a strong start with 33 from 24 balls, and Monank Patel added another 33 off 32, openers gave their start. But things got tense in the middle when they lost quick wickets and the game suddenly opened up.

San Francisco’s Hassan Khan bowled beautifully, taking 4 wickets for 30 runs. Matthew Short also kept things tight, picking up 3 for 22. But just when things looked tough for MI, Trent Boult stepped up once again this time with the bat hitting a valuable 22 off 13 balls to take his team home.

MI New York finished at 132 for 8 in 19.3 overs and won the match by 2 wickets in the very crucial game. With this thrilling win, MI New York moved into the Challenger and kept their hopes alive in the tournament. Sadly for San Francisco Unicorns, their season ended here, despite a strong run in the league stage.

When MI New York was about to lose all their hopes to qualify for the final of MLC 2025, Trent Boult saved the day with his unbelievable batting skills. The world-class pacer played an unbelievable innings with the bat at number 9 and dragged MINY one step closer to the ongoing Major League Cricket final. 

MINY had a very poor track record against the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU); they never got to win a match against SFU. So, based on pen and paper and recent performances, San Francisco was the clear favorite to win the match. All the equations started to change when MI clinched 5 wickets during the powerplay. SFU lost half of their batting unit in the first inning, when the team was only 16. From 16/5, they somehow managed to claim 131/10 in 19.1 overs. Emerging talent Rushil Ugarkar bagged 3 wickets and a couple of braces for Trent Boult and Nosthush Kenjige. 

The match was full of surprises—SFU's collapsing batting, a low-scoring match, and in the end, Trent Boult's stormy batting; all that came out of the script. On a tricky Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, Texas, surface, both teams struggled to build the required momentum. MINY, with multiple swashbuckling batters, had to witness a crumbling middle order. They started the run chase well with their opening pair of Monank Patel (33) and Quinton De Kock (33). After the exits of the openers, MINY's middle order couldn't sustain the pressure and fell down—from 43/1 to 108/8.

A pair 6 change the momentum of the match 

The team in blue was on the verge of losing the battle, but Boult had different thoughts. The 35-year-old, mostly known for his bowling skills, showed how to bat in a dire situation. He took his time on the wicket and then launched back-to-back two sixes in a Hassan Khan over. That couple of over-the-boundary tilts the momentum towards MINY again, and they did not turn back. Boult's match-winning unbeaten 22-run of 13 balls became the highlight of the match. 

After losing 8 wickets, the team from New York won the match versus San Francisco by 2 wickets and 3 balls to spare. MINY will next face Texas Super Kings on July 12 (Saturday). This match will decide the opponent for Washington Freedom in the final match of MLC 2025. 

In the Eliminator match of San Francisco Unicorns vs MI New York during the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season, San Francisco Unicorns played MI New York at Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas. MI New York won the toss and chose to bowl. San Francisco could not make big partnerships, but Xavier Bartlett fought hard with the bat. MI bowlers maintained control and picked wickets at regular intervals, bowling SF out for a modest total. The chase by MI New York wasn't as smooth, but they kept calm and sprinted across the finishing line with only two wickets in hand.

San Francisco had a shaky start but found hope through Xavier Bartlett, who smashed 44 off 24 deliveries with intent. Cooper Connolly supported with 23 off 19, and Brody Couch added 19 off 18. However, other batsmen failed to stay long, though, and the innings lost momentum. MI bowlers were well-behaved and stuck  at the right moments. Rushil Ugarkar impressed most with 3/19 in 3.1 overs. Trent Boult and Nosthush Kenjige each took 2 wickets, as SF were bowled out for 131 in 19.1 overs.

MI New York Innings

MI chased 132, with Quinton de Kock making 33 from 24 balls and Monank Patel also scoring 33 from 32. But the middle order collapsed under pressure, losing wickets at a rapid rate. Trent Boult was the major finishing act with a sharp 22 from 13 deliveries, leading MI close to the target. San Francisco's Hassan Khan made it difficult by taking 4 wickets for 30 runs, and Matthew Short put additional pressure with 3/22.
