In a tense Hundred 2025 Final at Lord's, Trent Rockets Men fell short by 26 runs against Oval Invincibles Men. Chasing a target of 169, the Rockets were restricted to a total of 142/8 and never seemed to catch up after succumbing to early losses. Will Jacks' destructive batting performance in the first innings gave Invincibles a head start, which was carried over to their bowling performance; Nathan Sowter taking 2 early and crucial wickets made for a difficult chase. Combined with injuries and disrupted preparation, the Rockets could not match the sharpness of a settled Invincibles unit. Below are the main reasons for the Trent Rockets Men defeat:

1. Will Jacks’ explosive innings

Will Jacks’ 72 off 41 balls set the tone for Invincibles, giving them the perfect foundation. His aggressive strokeplay left the Rockets struggling to control runs. This early onslaught ensured a formidable total of 168/5.

2. Nathan Sowter’s devastating opening burst

Sowter dismissed Tom Banton, Joe Root, and Rehan Ahmed in quick succession. His spell of 3/25 left the Rockets’ top order in tatters. These blows meant the Rockets had no platform to launch their chase.

3. Missed momentum and disruptions ahead of the final

The Rockets had some disrupted preparation after a rain-affected eliminator only 20 hours before. Lockie Ferguson pulled out due to an injury, and Dillon Pennington came in at the last minute, which meant the bowling balance was weakened. The Invincibles looked settled and strong; Adam Zampa delivered a controlled 1/21.

Due to the no-result 24 hours ago during the eliminator at the Kennington Oval in South London, Trent Rockets qualified for the final to face the top-ranked Oval Invincibles, who ended at the opening position in the points table. Both teams locked horns with each other for the final of The Hundred 2025 at Lord’s in London.

They made the solitary change as Adam Zampa, who flew from Australia for the one-off encounter, came into the eleven in place of Miles Hammond. Rockets brought back Dillon Pennington and Ben Sanderson for the all-important final.

Trent Rockets remains runners-up as Oval Invincble win third successive title

Rockets had the worst start in the event, with them losing Rehan Ahmed and Joe Rppt in three deliveries. Tom Banton also went back to the pavilion after a couple of balls before the captain, David Willey, went back to the dressing room for 14 runs in eight balls.

Marcus Stoinis kept fighting for more contributions with the bat. He celebrated his fifty and got out on the last ball of the innings for 64 runs in 37 balls with the help of four boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 168.42, but they fell short by just 26 runs as they the Invincibles record their third consecutive title of The Hundred history.

Trent Rockets finished in the second position in the group stage of The Hundred 2025 with the help of six wins in eight fixtures. They faced third-ranked holder Northern Superchargers during the Eliminator of the competition at the Kennington Oval in South London. Rockets’ captain, David Willey, won the toss and decided to bowl first due to the wet weather for the game.

Ross Whiteley and Sam Cook got into the playing eleven of the Rockets as Max Holden Beh Sanderson got out of the side. For the Superchargers, Graham Clark came into the side with Michael Kyle-Pepper making his way out.

Northern Superchargers post 119/5 in rain-hit first innings

On the third ball of the innings, the Harry Brook-led side lost their inform opener, Zak Crawley, for a duck before Dawid Malan and wicket-keeper, Dan Lawrence, posted a fine partnership of fifty runs for the second wicket. Captain Brook and Graham Clark couldn’t contribute much with the bat, while David Miller drilled 28 runs in just 10 deliveries at a strike rate of 280 with four sixes. They reached 119/5 in 75 balls during the first innings before the sky broke out, and the relentless rain forced the Superchargers to end their first innings earlier than they expected.

Trent Rockets progress to The Hundred 2025 final

It wasn’t a steady day for the dry weather in London. The three hours of rain took a significant amount of time out of the game, which was nearing its conclusion. After the last set of the restart, Tom Baton missed a wide opening delivery before the rain returned to take the players off.

Willey and Rockets wanted the game to end, given that they would automatically qualify for the final against the Oval Invincibles on August 31 at Lord’s in London. They again restrted the contest with the change of equation, but the rain returned again after four more deliveries. Due to the rain, the umpires called it off as Willey's army progress to the final.

The Oval Invincibles are showing once again why they are the most formidable side in The Hundred, and Thursday night’s performance against the Trent Rockets only reinforced that claim. Chasing 172 at The Oval, they chased the target down within just 89 balls, leaving their competitors dazed and all but wrapped up a knockout spot. With only one more win needed from two group games, the Invincibles are sailing to a direct place in the final at Lord’s next Sunday – and a chance at a third title in succession.

Two amazing innings defined the game. Sam Curran smashed a phenomenal 52 off 24 balls, including six sixes from just eight balls, while Jordan Cox settled the chase with a stylish but destructive knock of 58 not out off 32. At one point, the Invincibles needed 102 from 40 balls but only needed 29 to chase down their target. Curran, also slow to start with just 7 from 12 balls, went into overdrive and, after his innings, declared he had “six or out”. After a quiet beginning of the innings, his excellence lit up The Oval with cavalier hitting.

Consistency and smart planning keep Oval Invincibles winning

Even after Curran went, Cox took no time wasting. For a short while, Cox was paired with Donovan Ferreira, who cleared the ropes twice in as many balls, until Cox brought the game to a close by hitting back-to-back boundaries, which saw the home support all roar, once again. That was a huge statement win. It even had Joe Root, who scored 76 off 41 for the Rockets, admit that the Invincibles “were the better team,”. So how do the Invincibles keep on winning? It comes down to continuity and planning. For many franchises, they had a core group of players from the inception of the competition. Will Jacks, Sam and Tom Curran, Sam Billings, and Cox have provided continuity, while clever overseas signings such as Rashid Khan and Jason Behrendorff have slotted in without hesitation.

Their record does the talking: in three seasons they have 19 wins exit and of course, only 4 losses. In a league that has been designed for parity, this is a truly astonishing feat for the Invincibles, who manage to constantly be ahead in any criteria other than talent. That is to say, figuring out roles within the style of play, clarifying roles, and trusting the vision that has been developed. But the Invincibles are also clear about not getting carried away with the “three-peat” talk. Curran has said they are taking it “one game at a time” and understands how dangerous complacency can be. But the start of the question still remains across The Hundred

Oval Invincibles complete tough chase by six wickets

The veteran all-rounder, Sam Cook, also started to drill the big shots around the park with lots of boundaries and overboundaries as Oval slowly started to get near the target.

The left-handed batter celebrated another half-century of the season in just 22 balls. She stretched his knock of 54 runs in 24 deliveries, shouldering on two boundaries and six sixes as they could now smell for the victory. Cox also celebrated his half-century while Donovan Ferreira's big shots claimed the upper hand in the chase. His boundary completed the tough chase by six wickets with 11 balls to spare.
