HH-W vs PS-W: Pitch Report

The pitch at the Bellerive Oval is usually challenging early on, especially for batters. Fast bowlers tend to get help with the new ball, making the powerplay important. As play continues, batting becomes easier because of the true bounce, and once batters get set, they are able to score readily. It is essential that teams take the initial overs cautiously.

SS-W vs PS-W: Pitch Report

The pitch at North Sydney Oval is generally excellent for batting, making it a high-scoring venue. The small boundaries help batters seek quick runs. Still, bowlers, particularly seamers, may get some early movement, and as the game progresses, it does tend to turn and sometimes grip for the spinners. Teams must therefore balance aggression with smart shot-making.

Perth finished third, whereas Melbourne finished fourth in the points table. Whoever wins this match will find themselves against Sydney Sixers Women in the Challenger.

The Perth Scorchers showed improvement in the second half of the season after an up-and-down start to the season. The likes of Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine, and Chloe Ainsworth have been among the standout performers this season and will hold the key once again in this must-win game.

The Melbourne Stars started the season with a washed-out game and then went on to win four in a row but lost their last three games. However, Meg Lanning with the bat and Sophie Day with the ball have been excellent through the league stage.

The WACA Ground has hosted 37 WBBL matches so far, and teams batting second have enjoyed more success. Only 15 matches have been won by teams batting first. Captains winning the toss usually prefer to bowl first here. Fast bowlers will enjoy the bounce and pace the WACA is famous for. A score of around 170 in the first innings can still be challenging to chase.

Game 40 of the WBBL 2025 featured the Sydney Sixers facing the Adelaide Strikers at the North Sydney Oval on December 7. The match was dominated by Ellyse Perry, who produced a brilliant all-round show. Perry scored an outstanding 111 off 71 balls and became only the second player in WBBL history to cross 5000 career runs.

Beth Mooney remains the only other batter to achieve this milestone, with 5446 runs. Perry, now sitting at 5072 runs, further strengthened her status as one of the greatest players the WBBL has seen.

During the innings, the Sixers made a confident start, led by Perry’s superb century. Sophia Dunkley supported well with a solid 54, guiding the team to a total of 173. For the Adelaide Strikers, Eleanor Larosa delivered an impressive spell. She was the only wicket-taker for her side, finishing with four wickets for just 20 runs in her four overs.

Aiming to chase the target, the Adelaide Strikers began well with openers Tammy Beaumont and Madeline Penna scoring 23 and 31 runs. Bridget Patterson kept the chase alive with an unbeaten 65 off 35 balls. The Strikers came very close, but the Sixers held their nerve and won the match by just one run.

Sydney Sixers performed better with the ball. Lauren Cheatle and Ashleigh Gardner were the top wicket-takers, picking up two wickets each. Amelia Kerr and Caoimhe Bray also contributed with one wicket each.

The Sydney Sixers Women (SS-W) will take on the Adelaide Strikers Women (AS-W) in Match 40, the final group-stage match of the WBBL 2025, at the North Sydney Oval.

The Sixers are currently in third place with five wins from nine games. A win in this match is very important for them, as it could push them into the top two and give them a stronger position in the playoffs. They would like to finish the group stage with confidence and carry that momentum forward.

Meanwhile, the Strikers lie sixth with three wins from nine matches and a very slim chance of making it to the next round. Qualifying may be highly unlikely, but they will be keen to end their season on a high note by upsetting the Sixers. A win could also help them jump into the top four, depending on other results.

SS-W vs AS-W: Pitch Report

The pitch at the North Sydney Oval often assists the bowlers, especially when a team bowls first. Both the fast bowlers and the spinners can find movement and take early wickets. However, batters who stay long enough at the crease can get free later on with the easing of the surface to bat on. Building a steady partnership will be the key.

The WBBL match between Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes was abandoned today at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide because a hole appeared on the pitch. The strange incident happened when a stray cricket ball was accidentally rolled onto the pitch by the heavy roller during the innings break. The roller pressed the ball into the surface, creating a deep hole that could not be repaired, forcing officials to call off the match.

According to WBBL rules, the pitch is rolled during the innings break. While the roller was moving, a ball from the teams’ warm-up went under it and got pushed into the pitch. The roller's weight left a ball-shaped hole in the surface.

The organisers later explained the incident, saying:

“The match between the Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes has been abandoned at Karen Rolton Oval. During the innings break, while both teams were warming up, a ball was accidentally rolled onto the pitch as the roller was being used. The ball went under the roller and created a hole in the pitch.”

“As a result, the pitch conditions changed a lot. After talks between the match referee and the umpires, they decided it was not fair to expect the Hurricanes to bat on a pitch that was very different from the one the Strikers used. Both team captains were informed and agreed with the decision,” the Adelaide Strikers said in a statement on Instagram.

What happened in the match?

In the match, the Strikers scored 167 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs after losing the toss. Madeline Penna scored an unbeaten 63 while opening the innings. Bridget Patterson played a quick cameo, scoring 24 runs from just 12 balls. Nat Sciver-Brunt bowled well for the Hurricanes, giving away only 22 runs and taking one wicket in her four overs.

PS-W vs BH-W Pitch Report

The ground, with its compact size and relatively brief square boundaries, presents an early challenge to bowlers, particularly pacers using the new ball. As the game progresses, the outfield's speed aids in quick scoring. The surface holds up consistently, allowing batters to play through the line. There is some spin grip later on, but the ground tends to reward bold batting.
