In the 32nd game of The Hundred 2025, Southern Brave met Welsh Fire at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Welsh Fire captain Tom Abell won the toss and chose to bowl first, hoping the pitch would get better later. Southern Brave made three changes, bringing in Toby Albert, Danny Briggs and Tymal Mills. Hilton Cartwright, Jofra Archer and Reece Topley missed out, while Welsh Fire kept the same team.

Brave lost both openers early, but Jason Roy turned the innings around with a brilliant 70 from 39 balls, hitting six fours and five sixes. Leus de Plooy added 30 from 21 balls, and in the end, J Thompson (16 runs off 8) and Craig Overton (18 runs off 11) put on a quick stand of 38 runs to take Brave to 167/7.

The chase started badly for Welsh Fire as they lost three wickets for just 13 runs. Captain Tom Abell scored 20 from 15 balls, while Ben Kellaway fought with 33 off 20. Tom Kohler-Cadmore played a stunning knock of 84 from 39 balls, hitting seven sixes, but could not finish the job. Welsh Fire ended on 163/7, losing by just 4 runs.

The Southern Brave Men slightly surpassed the Welsh Fire Men in an exciting Match 32 of The Hundred 2025 by 4 runs only. Brave, batting first, got 167/7 as Roy scored a fighting 70. Welsh Fire were in trouble at 13/3 but Kohler-Cadmore (84 in 46 balls) and Kellaway mounted a superb fight-back. However, in the final overs, Southern Brave’s disciplined bowling sealed the result. Fire finished at 163/6, falling just short of the 168-run target. Below are the main reasons for the Welsh Firemen's defeat.

1. Late Surge from Southern Brave’s Top Order

Jason Roy’s counterattacking 70 off 39 balls turned the tide for Brave after early struggles. His aggressive hitting provided the backbone for their 167-run total. Without his knock, Brave could have folded under pressure.

2. Fire’s Lower-Order Fightback Fell Short

At 13/3, Fire looked in deep trouble before Kohler-Cadmore and Kellaway rescued the innings. Their 81-run partnership brought the chase back on track. Yet, despite their brilliance, they couldn’t quite take Fire over the line.

3. Disciplined Death Bowling by Brave

Brave’s bowlers held their nerve in the final overs with yorkers and tight lines. Jordan Thompson’s dismissal of Kohler-Cadmore was the decisive blow. Their composure at the death ensured a narrow but crucial victory.

On the 32nd contest of The Hundred 2025, Southern Brave locked horns with Welsh Fire at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The visiting captain, Tom Abell, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface that was expected to get better in the second innings.

The Southern Brave has now made three changes to the playing eleven, with the wicket-keeper batter, Toby Albert, Danny Briggs, and Tymal Mills coming into the side in place of Hilton Cartwring, Jofra Archer, and Reece Topley. On the other hand, the Welsh Fire decided to retain the same playing eleven.

Jason Roy leads Southern Brave to 167/7 in first innings

Both opening batters of the Brave side returned with single-figure scores while the number three batter, Jason Roy, smashed 70 runs in just 39 balls at a strike rate of nearly 180, with the help of six boundaries and five sixes. Welsh Fire fluster under pressure in heavy chase to fall short by 4 runs

As the trend has been throughout this season, the top three of the away side continued to struggle in the batting department as they found themselves three down for just 13 runs in the first three sets of five balls during the chase. The leader returned to the hat for 20 runs in 15 balls.

Ben Kellaway smacked a fine knock of 33 runs in 20 balls with the help of three boundaries, but the entire hope of the tourits relied on Tom Kohler Cadmore, who failed to shoulder the side over the line with the help of 84 runs in 39 balls at a strike rate of 182.60, thanks to three boundaries and seven over boundaries.

The Welsh Fire Men lost to the Trent Rockets Men in Match 27 of The Hundred 2025 by 2 wickets. The Welsh Fire Men batted first and scored 150/6 scored with Stephen Eskinazi (53 off 42), Garry balance and captain Tom Abell (48 off 29), and a late flourish from Chris Green. The Trent Rockets Men scored 152/7 off 99 balls, with Joe Root anchoring the innings with 64 off 41*. The Welsh Fire Men bowlers struck but lacked the consistency to prevent Trent from reaching the 150-run target, eventually losing by 3 wickets. Here are the main reasons why the Welsh Fire Men lost the match.

1. Joe Root’s Match-Winning Composure

Joe Root delivered the winning blow with an unbeaten 64 off 41 balls. He was very composed during the whole inning and never lost control even after the wickets of Tom Banton (32 off 20) and Max Holden (14 off 14) fell, so that Trent could keep their run chase going smoothly. His effort was the determinant that separated the two teams.

2. Inability to Build Big Partnerships

Even though Stephen Eskinazi (53 from 42) and Tom Abell (48 from 29) each played a brilliant innings, Welsh Fire were unable to put together a proper partnership. Wickets fell just as momentum was building, with others failing to convert starts. This stopped them from pushing the score beyond 170, leaving their total slightly under par.

3. Pressure from Trent Rockets’ Bowlers

The Rockets' bowling unit was very tight and didn’t allow Fire to go at a high rate. Samuel Cook (2/17) got the wickets that mattered at the start of the innings, while Lockie Ferguson (1/21) and David Willey (1/30) were building the pressure in the middle overs. Their accuracy limited the Welsh Fire to 150/6, a target that could be enough to win the game.

Ben Ducett continued to struggle with their bat. Joe Clarke, the wicket-keeper batter, clubbed 24 runs in 12 balls with three fours and one six, while Will Smeed drilled 23 runs in 17 balls. However, none of them were able to convert them to a big score, which has been their issue this season.

In the 21st game of The Hundred 2025, Welsh Fire faced Southern Brave at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Home captain Tom Abell won the toss and chose to bowl. He came in for Stephen Eskinazi, while Brave made two changes, bringing in Reece Topley and Chris Jordan.

Brave had a poor start as Matt Henry bowled a brilliant spell of 2/5 in 20 balls, giving away very little. At one stage they were 94/6 and looked short of runs. Skipper James Vince made 29, but Hilton Cartwright turned the game around with a stunning unbeaten 51 off 19 balls, hitting five sixes and two fours. His late fireworks pushed Brave to 129/8. David Payne and Chris Green also picked up two wickets each for Fire.

Chasing 130, Jonny Bairstow gave Fire a quick start with 22 off 10 balls. But once he got out, the innings lost shape. Tom Kohler-Cadmore fought with 25 runs, but the rest couldn’t finish the job. Brave’s bowlers stayed calm at the end and pulled off a close 4-run win. With this result, Southern Brave stay alive in the tournament, while Welsh Fire remain at the bottom and continue their losing run.

The Welsh Fire Men were defeated by the Southern Brave Men in the Hundred Men’s 2025 Match 21 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Though Southern Brave lost early wickets, their batting firepower, led by Hilton Cartwright, gave them the victory. Welsh Fire's chase never materialized, and quick wickets derailed their momentum and only able to post 125/8. On top of that, Southern Brave’s disciplined bowling sealed a comfortable victory. In the end, Southern Brave scraped home by 4 runs. Here are the main reasons why the Welsh Fire Men lost the match.

1. Southern Brave’s Batting Brilliance – Cartwright’s Explosive Knock

Hilton Cartwright hit a sensational 51 from 19 balls, hitting boundaries and sixes that made Brave reach 129/8. James Vince also played a steady hand with 29 off 26 balls, while James Coles added a quick 14 off 10. Despite losing wickets regularly, Cartwright’s late fireworks ensured Southern Brave finished with a defendable score.

2. Welsh Fire’s Batting Collapse – Key Wickets at Crucial Times

Jonny Bairstow got them off to a rapid start with 22 from 10 balls; however, he fell early, which created a level of pressure for the rest of the batting lineup. The chase quickly faltered after losing momentum in the first couple of overs. With just 45/1 after 4 overs, Fire's innings never managed to find the stability and momentum to chase down the target.

3. Bowling Excellence – Brave’s Attack Seals the Win

Jofra Archer was superb as he ripped the innings apart with 3/20 in 20 balls, including key wickets at ideal moments. James Coles was very good with 2/10, as he got the necessary breakthroughs, while Craig Overton was calm with 2/31. Their combined efforts ensured Welsh Fire couldn’t cross the line despite being within touching distance.

During the 21st fixture of The Hundred 2025, Welsh Fire met the Southern Brave in another home clash at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The home captain, Tom Abell, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a relatively green bowling surface.

The home captain came into the eleven as the only change with Stephen EWskinazi making way out. For the Southern Brave, they made two changes to the eleven. Tymal Mills and Jordan Thompson went out of the eleven, with Reece Tropley and Chris Jordan making their way into the eleven.

Southern Brave recover from early struggle to reach 129/8

The tourists kept losing wickets from the start as they had no answer to the New Zealand pacer, Matt Henry, who ended with a fabulous spell of 2/5 in 20 balls with 16 dot balls. They had only three batters in the double figures as the captain managed 29 runs in 26 balls. At 94/6 in 82 balls, they were far away from getting to 100.

But Hilton Cartwright changed the entire momentum with his incredible knock of unbeaten 51 runs in 19 balls at a strike rate of 268.42, shouldering on five sixes and two fours as they somehow limped their way to 129/8 in their allotted 20 overs. David Payne and Chris Green also bagged two wickets in the first innings.

Welsh Fire continue losing streak with four-run defeat

The home side went off to a tiny flying start of 24 runs in the first 11 balls. Jonny Bairstow smacked 22 runs in 10 balls. But once he got dismissed, the pressure fell on the middle order of the side. Tom Kohler-Cadmore was their last hope with 25 runs in 28 balls.

But none of this worked out at the end. Southern Brave held their nerve with some crazy captaincy and excellent bowling performance to earn a four-run victory to keep themselves alive in the event. This could possibly be the end of the season for the Fire, who extends their stay at the bottom.
