In the semifinal of the event at the DY Patil Stadium against Australia Women, Australia posted a massive score of 338 runs in the first innings. The hosts completed the chase by five wickets with nine balls to spare as Rodrigues smashed a fine, unbeaten knock of 127 runs in 134 balls at a strike rate of 94.78, with the help of 14 boundaries.

In the final, the Indian side put a massive score of 298/7 in their allotted 50 overs with Varma drilling 87 runs in 78 balls. Deepti Sharma also contributed with a run-a-ball 58 runs as they bundled out the Proteas for 246 runs to win the contest by 52 runs to lift their maiden Women’s World Cup.

The veteran member of the Indian women’s cricket team, Jemimah Rodrigues, thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for the growth and success of women's cricket over the last few years. Rodrigues was the biggest reason for India’s semifinal victory against Australia at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

You know, how to overcome those obstacles was by us playing those pressure situations again and again.” Rodrigues expressed in a discussion on Aj Taak.

“That’s when the WPL came in, and that changed the entire narrative. It’s just that we had three seasons of the WPL, and we just got our very first World Cup.” Rodrigues addressed in the same interaction as they start preparation for the home T20I series against Sri Lanka.
