Smriti Mandhana was in a tough spot post India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 victory against South Africa due to her relationship break-up with Palash Muchhal, but she overcame that with the victory in the Women’s Premier League (WPL)during the 2026 season against Delhi Capitals for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). It came after her marriage was called off with Palash.

Smriti Mandhana’s mother, Smita, shared one of the viral memes after the win, as the viral meme cheekily suggested that Smriti dismantled the Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack in the WPL final as if she were seeing her ex’s face in every opposition bowler that she smashed out of the park. Smita reposted the meme from her private Instagram account.

“They never saw the nights you cried in silence, one and a half months of storms within. Battles fought where no crowd claps, where strength is born quietly, unseen. Trolls screamed, tried to dim your fire, questioned your worth, and questioned your every move. But you chose grace over noise and let your bat speak the truth.” A message was shared from the post.

Mandhana and Palash had been in a long-term relationship and were set to get married on November 23. But a day before his wedding, it was announced that the program had been called off, due to the ill health of Smriti’s father. Soon after, more serious allegations emerged as the childhood friend of the Indian players accused Palash of infidelity a day before the ceremony.

“I was at the wedding celebrations when he was caught red-handed with another woman in bed. Bhayanak scene tha, he was beaten up by the Indian female cricketers.” Smirti’s friend, Vidnyan Mane, accused.

In the WPL 2026 final, Smriti smashed a fine knock of 87 runs in 41 balls at a strike rate of 212.50 with the help of 12 boundaries and three sixes, while their number three, Georgia Voll, grabbed 79 runs in 54 balls at a strike rate of 146.30, thanks to 14 boundaries as RCB completed the chase in 19.4 overs by six wickets.

If batting is an art, the WPL 2026 final at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara felt like a gallery of masterpieces. The contest began with Lizelle Lee’s solid contribution and ended with a stunning assault from Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll. Their explosive approach guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a win over Delhi Capitals in the title clash, earning their second championship in three seasons. The pair added a remarkable 165-run stand, while the Jemimah Rodrigues-led Delhi attack had a tough day, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat in a WPL final.

Batting first, Delhi lost Lee early, but Jemimah stepped up and took charge of the innings. She scored 57 off 37 balls and laid a strong platform for the rest of the lineup. Laura Wolvaardt and Chinelle Henry then carried the momentum forward with a 55-run partnership. Wolvaardt made 44 from 25 deliveries, while Henry finished strongly with an unbeaten 35 off just 15 balls.

On the back of these efforts, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive total of 203, which looked defendable at the interval. However, the loss marked another painful chapter, as it became DC’s fourth straight defeat in a WPL final. There was also a brief moment of controversy at the end, with the bails coming off as the winning boundary was struck.

RCB Seal the WPL 2026 Title in Style

However, Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll had different plans. Their aggressive batting completely changed the game in the second innings. Grace Harris was dismissed early for nine runs, and Bengaluru struggled briefly in the powerplay. Once the partnership settled in, the momentum shifted firmly in RCB’s favour. Delhi’s bowlers failed to execute their plans in the middle overs and could not slow the scoring.

Mandhana–Voll Dominate the Chase

Voll was eventually dismissed after scoring 79 runs, while Mandhana continued her fluent knock and made 87. Chinelle Henry triggered a late twist by removing both set batters, bringing Delhi back into the contest. After Richa Ghosh departed for six, the pressure increased. Nadine de Klerk and Radha Yadav stayed calm at the crease and finished the chase, sparking wild celebrations as RCB players rushed onto the field. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, were left heartbroken after another final defeat.

RCB Hold Nerve in Final Overs

Chasing a target of 204, RCB were powered by a stunning 165-run partnership between Mandhana and Voll, which came off just 92 balls. The duo carried the chase despite losing Harris early in the innings. In the final over, Radha Yadav (unbeaten 12) and Nadine de Klerk (unbeaten 7) ensured there were no further hiccups, guiding RCB to their second WPL title.

Brief Score:

Delhi Capitals – 203/4 (Jemimah 57, Laura 44)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 204/4 (Smriti 87, Voll 79)

Another heartbreaking year for Delhi Capitals Women, as RCB Women lifted their second WPL trophy after winning the thrilling WPL 2026 Final on Friday night (February 5) at Vadodara.

RCB Women won second WPL title, DC Women lost 4 of 4 WPL Finals

In the WPL 2026 Final, RCB Women chose to field first. While Delhi Capitals Women scored 203/4 in 20 overs, RCB Women chased down the target in 19.4 overs after losing four wickets, as they won the match by six wickets. It was the record chase in the WPL history, breaking the previous record of chasing the 202-run target by RCB Women against Gujarat Giants Women at the same venue in last season.

RCB Women won their second WPL title, equalising the record for the most WPL titles with the other winners Mumbai Indians Women. RCB Women previously won the title in the second edition in 2024.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals Women have played all four WPL Finals and lost all of them, as they are still waiting for their first title.

Captain Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt played strong after a good start and before Chinelle Henry's furious cameo

Delhi Capitals got a good start with a 49-run partnership for the first wicket between Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma. While Lee scored 37 off 30 balls with three sixes and three fours, Shafali scored 20 off 13 balls with three fours.

Then Laura Wolvaardt and captain Jemimah Rodrigues had a 76-run partnership for the third wicket. While Laura scored 44 off 25 balls with three fours and two sixes, skipper Jemimah scored 57 off 37 balls with eight fours. Also, Chinelle Henry had a strong cameo of 35 not out off 15 balls with four fours and two sixes, as she had a quickfire 55-run partnership in the last four overs.

Captain Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll played massive roles before Radha Yadav's perfect finish

In reply, RCB Women lost their opener Grace Harris (9) cheaply in the second over. However, the skipper and other opener Smriti Mandhana and the no.3 batter Georgia Voll had a brilliant 165-run partnership for the second wicket, which played a massive role in their tournament Final win. While Voll scored 79 off 54 balls with 14 fours, skipper Smriti scored 87 off 41 balls with 12 fours and three sixes.

While RCB Women needed 10 runs in the final over, Radha Yadav finished the game with two back-to-back fours in the third and fourth balls of that over. Although Chinelle Henry (2/34) fought hard with the ball too, as she dismissed Grace Harris and captain Smriti Mandhana, it wasn't enough for Delhi Capitals Women, who couldn't count the fourth time as lucky.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) final will be played today, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Delhi Capitals at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. It will be a big match, as both teams chase the title.

Smriti Mandhana will lead RCB in a WPL final for the second time. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals have reached the final for the fourth straight season. RCB will be hoping to lift their second WPL trophy, and Mandhana will play a key role in their title hopes.

Mandhana is also close to breaking a major RCB record. At present, Ellyse Perry is the highest run-scorer for the franchise in WPL history. Perry has scored 972 runs in 25 matches, with an impressive average of 64.8 and a strike rate of 132.96, including eight half-centuries.

Mandhana on the Verge of a Big Record

Smriti Mandhana is just 37 runs away from going past Ellyse Perry as RCB’s highest run-scorer in WPL history. She has scored 936 runs in 34 matches so far, with an average of 29.25 and a strike rate of 132.39. She also has six fifty-plus scores to her name.

The RCB captain is also close to a historic milestone. Mandhana needs 64 more runs to become the first RCB batter to complete 1,000 runs in the WPL. If she achieves this, she will be only the fifth player overall to reach the mark. So far, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Meg Lanning, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Shafali Verma have crossed 1,000 runs in WPL history.

Most Runs in WPL History

  1. Nat Sciver-Brunt (MI) – 1348 runs
  2. Meg Lanning (DC/UPW) – 1200 runs
  3. Harmanpreet Kaur (MI) – 1193 runs
  4. Shafali Verma (DC) – 1104 runs
  5. Ellyse Perry (RCB) – 972 runs
  6. Smriti Mandhana (RCB) – 936 runs

RCB Eye Second Title

Meanwhile, RCB have a strong chance to become double champions. Their men’s team won the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year. If the women’s team lifts the WPL trophy today, it will be a rare moment where the same franchise holds both the men’s and women’s titles at the same time.

The pitch at the BCA Stadium has been good for batting throughout the tournament.
Batters have scored freely once settled, while fast bowlers have found some help with the new ball. As the match progresses, the surface tends to become even better for batting, making it a good venue for a high-scoring contest.
