WWE superstar Roman Reigns uses a cricket bat in wrestling at WWE Crown Jewel 2025, taking place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. The Tribal Chief went up against Bronson Reed of Adelaide, who is referred to as "AusZilla," in a match that had everyone in suspense. During the fight, Reigns suddenly picked up a cricket bat and hit Reed, leaving the crowd stunned and excited. Commentator Wade Barrett compared Reigns to Australia’s cricket greats Ricky Ponting and Steve Smith for his powerful shots.

The WWE event came just before the much-awaited Ashes 2025–26 series between Australia and England. The series will start in Perth from November 21 to 25, followed by Tests in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. With cricket season around the corner, Roman Reigns’ use of a cricket bat in the ring perfectly matched the country’s cricket fever and gave fans a moment to remember.

The Crown Jewel show had a packed lineup with legendary matches. John Cena and AJ Styles faced each other one last time in their famous rivalry. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins clashed in a champion vs. champion match, while Tiffany Stratton took on Stephanie Vaquer in a women’s title fight. But the most talked-about match was between Reigns and Reed because of the unexpected cricket twist.

Reigns’ Cricket Moment Lights Up Perth

During the fight, Reigns used the bat to knock Bronson Reed out of the ring. Wade Barrett shouted, “He’s like Steve Smith out here!” making the crowd roar with laughter and cheers. Even with his strong performance, Reigns couldn’t win, as Reed pinned him for the biggest victory of his career.

Meanwhile, cricket fans also heard from recently retired England pacer Chris Woakes, who spoke about the upcoming Ashes. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, "Going to Australia is a different beast. I'm hoping the guys can go and do a good job and we've got a great chance this time. We have great depth and a great squad. The lads in the first XI, if they can stay fit and on the field we have a hell of a chance. Ashes cricket is played with more venom behind it but these players have played a lot of international cricket and enough to know what it's about.

"We have been building nicely over the last few years but not quite got over the line in the big series, but it doesn't get any bigger than this. We are due a competitive performance down under and these guys have got that in the locker."

<![CDATA['Nearly Joined WWE, Was Going To Fight...': Andrew Flintoff drops stunning revelation about post-retirement plans]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/nearly-joined-wwe-was-going-to-fight-andrew-flintoff-drops-stunning-revelation-about-post-retirement-plans/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/nearly-joined-wwe-was-going-to-fight-andrew-flintoff-drops-stunning-revelation-about-post-retirement-plans/ Tue, 01 Jul 2025 19:41:43 GMT

Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has made a surprising revelation, saying he was close to signing with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for a bout against wrestling legend The Undertaker. The deal was proposed shortly after Flintoff retired from international cricket in 2010. The former cricketer, who played 227 matches for England, admitted he was unsure of his next steps after retirement and was exploring new avenues—including an unexpected leap into professional wrestling.

"I just hid for a bit and started to wonder, 'What am I going to do now?'
Some of the TV offers started to come, which was never the plan—I stumbled into that. I nearly joined the WWE. I didn't want to box; that was never the plan! I would have been called 'Big Fred'!" he said during a conversation on The Overlap's Stick to Cricket. Flintoff explained that during his time in Dubai, he found himself out of shape and needed motivation to get fit again. His childhood love for WWE sparked an ambitious idea.

"What happened was, it got to a point in Dubai where I was unfit; I'd put weight on, and I was just not in a good place. I wanted to get fit again, but I needed motivation. As a kid, I loved WWE, so I came up with this idea because I was doing League of Their Own with Sky to fight The Undertaker in Manchester."

WWE Offered Obscene Money, But Family Came First

The idea began to gain traction quickly. "I wrote this treatment up and presented the idea to Sky; it started gathering momentum, and the next minute it's being passed onto WWE. I was in contact with the WWE, Vince McMahon!" he revealed. WWE's response was swift and serious, with an offer to fast-track him into major events like WrestleMania and Royal Rumble.

"Two weeks later, I got an email from WWE, saying, 'You can't do your documentary because you'll give the secrets away; we want to put you on a three-year contract.' They said, 'We'll fast-track you, and in 18 months you'll be at WrestleMania and Royal Rumble.' The money was obscene, but we wanted to move back from Dubai. The kids wanted to play cricket and didn't want to go to America, so I just changed it to boxing and had a fight instead."
