Sikandar Raza-led Zimbabwe kept their unbeaten run in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 alive in style as they stunned Australia by 23 runs at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday. With this win, Zimbabwe jumped to the number two spot in the Group B points table.

This victory was Zimbabwe’s first win over Australia in T20Is since 2007, when they beat them in the inaugural T20 World Cup. Zimbabwe had lost two games against Australia in a tri-series, so this result also means they are now unbeaten against Australia in T20 World Cups.

In this article, we will also look at all of Zimbabwe’s historic wins against full-member teams in the T20 World Cup. These victories show that Zimbabwe can compete and achieve big wins on cricket’s biggest stage.

ZIM vs AUS – Cape Town, 2007 (Won by 5 Wickets)

Zimbabwe stunned the cricketing world in the inaugural T20 World Cup with a sensational win over Australia in Cape Town. This victory remains one of the most iconic moments in Zimbabwe’s T20 history, showing their ability to perform against top teams. Batting first, Australia put up 138 on the board, with only Andrew Symonds and Brad Hodge scoring more than 30 runs. Zimbabwe bowler Elton Chigumbura single-handedly destroyed the Australian batting lineup.

Chasing this small target against a strong Australian bowling attack, veteran batter Brendan Taylor scored 60 not out to win the match. He was also named the Man of the Match for his brilliant performance.

In the 2022 World Cup match in Hobart, Zimbabwe claimed a win over Ireland, marking an important achievement in the group stages. Although Ireland is a newer full-member nation, the win showed Zimbabwe’s growing strength in T20 cricket.

In that match, famous Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza single-handedly won the game for his team. He scored 82 not out to help Zimbabwe set a total of 174. With the ball, he also took an important wicket of George Dockrell. In the end Ireland lost the match by 31 runs.

ZIM vs PAK – Perth, 2022 ( won by 1 Run)

In the Australian edition of the 2022 World Cup, Zimbabwe shocked Pakistan in Perth, defeating one of the most consistent T20 teams. This win showed Zimbabwe’s strength and ability to perform under pressure on international ground. Sikandar Raza starred for Zimbabwe with a fantastic 3-wicket haul. The Babar Azam-led Pakistan side lost by just 1 run to Craig Ervine’s team in a Super 12 match in Perth. Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign struggled after a last-ball defeat to arch-rivals India in their opening match. Pakistan restricted Zimbabwe to 130/8 at Perth Stadium but could only reach 129/8 in reply.

After suffering a shocking defeat in the rain-shortened three-match ODI series opener against the hosts Zimbabwe, Pakistan made a solid comeback with a thrashing 10-wicket victory to level the series before the last game of the series.

After the hosts chose to bat first in the second ODI, they were bundled out for only 145 runs. In reply, Pakistan openers this time batted strongly to reach the target in 18.2 overs without losing a wicket. While the debutant Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed shined with the ball, opener Saim Ayub recorded a smashing ODI century in that low chase.

In the Zimbabwe batting line-up, only Dion Myers (33) and Sean Williams (31) reached the 20-run mark. Pakistan spinners bagged nine wickets in that innings, where the debutant leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed had the bowling figures of 8-2-33-4, and the off-spinner Salman Agha got three wickets (7-0-26-3). Saim Ayub (1/16) and Faisal Akram (1/19) got one wicket each, while the opener Tadiwanashe Marumani was run out.
