Alyssa Healy celebrates farewell century

In his last ODI innings, the wicket-keeper opening batter of the Australian side, Alyssa Healy, signed off with a fine century during the third fixture of the three-match series against India at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. There was no one prouder than his husband, and the left-arm pacer of the national men’s side, Mitchell Starc, who was in the commentary box for the moment.

At the start of the game, Healy got a guard of honour from the Indian side as she shook hands with the opposition captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, before taking the field one last time with the bat in hand. On the 31st over, she rocked back and pulled the short ball from Deepti Sharma through square leg for a fine boundary to complete her century in just 79 balls.

In the very next over, Healy clubbed Shree Charani for 21 runs in five balls, which was decorated with three successive boundaries and a six, which she timed over wide long-on after getting low on her stance, which reflected how technically powerful she had been.

She finished with 158 runs in 98 balls at a strike rate of 160, thanks to 27 boundaries and two sixes.

Their number three batter, Georgia Voll, bagged 62 runs in 52 balls with the help of seven boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 120, while their number four batter, Beth Mooney, dashed unbeaten 87 runs in 74 balls with the help of eight fours and one six.

Australia made their way to 357/7 in 46.1 overs, and it seemed like they would be crossing the 380-run mark quite easily. Renuka Singh Thakur was decent with the new ball and returned with figures of 1/64 in 10 overs, including one maiden.

Brief Scores: AUS-W 409/7 (Alyssa Healy 158, Beth Mooney 106*, Sneh Rana 2/66) vs IND-W.
