The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly shows interest in gaining the hosting rights for the 2027 final match of the World Test Championship (WTC). According to a media report, when the ICC Chief Executives Committee held a meeting in Zimbabwe, India expressed their strong desire to host the WTC Final 2027.

With a well-decorated presentation, BCCI's chief executive Arun Singh Dhumal articulated the board's aspiration. Team India, out of three WTC circles, qualified in two finals but has yet to become the best in the championship.

The 2021 WTC Final between India and New Zealand was hosted at the Rose Bowl in Hampshire, England. The next final was held at The Oval between India and Australia. In the current circle, South Africa and Australia have qualified for the final, and they are set to face each other at Lord's from June 11 to June 25.

Despite India's reputation as the cricket-crazy nation, lack of interest from the fans for the Test format can be a tough hurdle for BCCI before they get the rights to host the final. On the other hand, cricket fans in England love to watch high-voltage Test matches live from the gallery.

Multiple concerns can restrict ICC to offer BCCI the hosting rights

In case India fails to qualify for the final of the WTC 2025-27 circle, the ICC's concern about low attendance in the stadium can be doubled. As per reports, for the first four days, all tickets for the South Africa vs. Australia WTC final match have been sold out.

In another scenario, if Pakistan manages to reach the final and India gets hosting rights, then hybrid models can be introduced; that means the match will have to be arranged outside India.
