Scotland is gearing up for their historic debut at the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE. The team will be led by allrounder Kathryn Bryce, with her sister, wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce, serving as vice-captain. This marks a milestone for Scottish women's cricket as they prepare to take on the best teams in the world in their maiden T20 World Cup outing.

A squad packed with allrounders

The Scottish squad is filled with allrounders, a strategic advantage for the team. Besides captain Kathryn Bryce, the squad includes Priyanaz Chatterji, Katherine Fraser, and Megan McColl, all of whom provide depth with both bat and ball. Head coach Craig Wallace praised the balance of the team, saying, "The make-up and balance of this squad is outstanding. We've got match-winners from start to finish, which I think is the big difference in the evolution of this squad during my short tenure." Scotland’s progression under Wallace has seen key performances from various players, reflecting the growing strength of their squad.

Scotland qualified for the tournament as runners-up in the T20 World Cup qualifiers earlier this year, held in the UAE. The team has shown consistent performance leading up to the World Cup, most notably during a tri-series in the Netherlands, where they dominated both the hosts and Papua New Guinea, winning five out of six matches. The strength of the wider group was evident, with several players pushing for selection and impressing throughout the year.

Preparing for Group B challenges

Scotland is placed in Group B alongside top-tier teams such as England, Bangladesh, South Africa, and West Indies. To prepare for this daunting challenge, the team will head to the UAE in mid-September for a training camp, followed by two warm-up games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Thirteen of the 15 players from the qualifier squad have retained their spots for the T20 World Cup, including offspinner Olivia Bell and former captain Abbi Aitken-Drummond, both of whom performed exceptionally in the Netherlands.

Scotland’s journey in the T20 World Cup will begin with their opening fixture against Bangladesh on October 3, and the team is determined to make their mark on the global stage.
