Shubman Gill is leaving no stone unturned as he prepares for India's upcoming domestic and Test seasons. The 24-year-old vice-captain was spotted honing his skills at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali, confidently lofting deliveries in his Test jersey. Recently named India's vice-captain for both the ODI and T20I formats, Gill is also set to lead Team A in the Duleep Trophy, starting September 5 in Bengaluru. He will captain a squad featuring top talents like KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Tilak Varma, Riyan Parag, and Shivam Dube.

Following a short break after India’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, Gill has returned to his home ground in Punjab to fine-tune his game. The Indian team has dispersed, with many players training individually ahead of the crucial home series. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer recently participated in the Buchi Babu tournament for Mumbai, though Suryakumar's potential involvement in the Duleep Trophy is now in question due to a hand injury.
Form and focus for the upcoming test season
Gill has had an up-and-down journey in Test cricket. Despite a quiet season last year, apart from a century against Australia in Ahmedabad, he roared back to form during India’s five-match Test series against England. Gill's current Test record stands at 1492 runs in 25 matches, with an average of 35.52, four centuries, and six fifties.

Concerns remain over his consistency at the No. 3 spot, previously held by Cheteshwar Pujara, but the upcoming series against Bangladesh and New Zealand will be vital for Gill to solidify his position before the high-profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. With India’s Test calendar packed, Gill’s performance will be crucial to India's success.
