Do you know two players over 40 plus years are representing their nation in Asia Cup 2025?

It’s been said that the shortest format is built for fresh legs and a young mindset. But during the ongoing Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), there were several players who had experienced and crossed the 35-year age mark. Their roles will be quite crucial for their respective side in crunch situations of the tournament.

Such an incident also took place during the fourth contest of the event between Pakistan and Oman at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This is perhaps the first occasion of two players over 40 years of age turning up for their nation in the Men’s Asia Cup event. Oman’s Aamir Kaleem and Mohammed Nadeeem, both 43 years of age, are representing their country.

Kaleem, the batting all-rounder of the side, has smashed 580 runs in 36 T20 innings at an average of just under 20 and a strike rate of 115.53 with the help of one half-century at the best score of unbeaten 72 runs. With the ball, he has picked up 41 wickets at an average of 20 and an economy rate of 7.47.

On the other hand, Kadeem has featured in 42 T20I innings to nail 641 runs at an average of just over 20 and a strike rate of 110.51, thanks to a couple of half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 77 runs. With the ball, he has recorded 34 wickets at an economy rate of under eight.

Winning the toss against Oman, Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, decided to bat first on a surface he reckoned would offer swing later on. It’s the same track on which India chased down 60 against the United Arab Emirates two days ago to earn a victory by nine wickets and more than 15 overs to spare.

In the opening over of their bowling, Oman’s left-arm pacer, Shah Faisal, got the wicket of Saim Ayub on the very first delivery. The left-handed batter looked to swing his willow, and once he missed that delivery, the straight ball found him plumb before the stumps.
