After the first T20I of the five-match series was washed out, all eyes were on India’s performance in the second encounter against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Following a strong batting display in Canberra, expectations were high that the Indian lineup would continue their aggressive form and post a challenging total. However, the script unfolded quite differently in Melbourne as Australia’s bowlers struck early to rattle India’s top order.

Josh Hazlewood, in particular, was unplayable with his precise line and length, dismantling India’s batting with a fiery spell. The Indian batters, who appeared confident before the game, struggled to cope with the pace and movement on offer. Their collapse under pressure left the team reeling and the crowd stunned, as Australia took complete control of the contest. What began as a promising evening for India quickly turned into a forgettable outing at the MCG.

Josh Hazelwood Storm at Melbourne Cricket Ground:

Josh Hazlewood has been exceptional throughout the series, showcasing his dominance in both ODIs and T20Is. Even in the rain-affected first T20I, he stood out as the only bowler to claim a wicket. However, it was the second T20I at the MCG where he truly unleashed his brilliance.

Hazlewood dismantled India’s top order, starting with Shubman Gill’s dismissal in the third over. His devastating third over of the spell — the fifth of the innings — saw him remove Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession, conceding just a single run. Both batters, known for their explosive stroke play, were undone by his precision and pace. To add to India’s woes, a catch was also dropped off his bowling that over.

Josh Hazlewood delivered a stunning spell, finishing with figures of 4 overs, 3 wickets for just 13 runs at an economy of 3.20. His precision and control dismantled India’s batting lineup, removing Shubman Gill, captain Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma — three key wickets that turned the momentum firmly in Australia’s favor.
