Moments after India women’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, grabbed a fine catch to extend the celebration of Women’s World Cup 2025 title, the entire DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai stood on their feet to soak the moment as India beat South Africa by 52 runs to win the Maiden ODI World Cup Trophy after missing the chance in the previous two attempts during 2005 and 2017 to Australia and England respectively.

The record-breaking win was secured by brilliant performances from players like Deepti Sharma (Player of the Tournament) and Shafali Verma (Player of the Match in the final). Following the win, the players gathered around the center wicket as they came together to sing their Women in Blue Anthem for the very first time.

The moment carried special meaning several years ago as the best performer of their semifinal win against Australia, Jemimah Rodrigues, promised that the Blue Brigade would have a team anthem only once they win the ICC Women's World Cup Final. The promise was fulfilled finally.

In reply, the Proteas were bundled out for 246 runs, with Laura Wolvaardt remaining the only shining star with 101. The key factor in India's bowling attack was Deepti Sharma, who achieved sensational figures of 5/39 to secure the victory. She was also later named the Player of the Tournament.
