Pakistan face Bangladesh in the do-or-die encounter during their last Super 4 clash of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium as the Salman Ali Agha-led side earned a victory to qualify for the final, where they will face India, in what would turn out to be the first-ever Asia Cup final in the history of the event.

Despite putting a low score on the board, Pakistan’s bowlers were excellent with their line and length. Shaheen Afridi bowled three overs with the new ball inside the first six overs of the innings, while Haris Rauf showed his dominance with the ball, using the pace and aggression as he breathed fire.

After the game, Pakistan requested ‘India ko choodna nahi (Don’t spare India)’ to Rauf, holding his hands after the end of the clash as the right-arm pacer nodded with a smile and gave a flying kiss to the fan. It’s just another proof of how tough that clash would prove to be.

With the bat, Pakistan smashed 135/8 in their allotted 20 overs of the first innings as the wicket-keeper batter, Mohammad Haris, smashed 31 runs in 23 balls at a strike rate of 134.78 with the help of two boundaries and one six. Mohammed Nawaz nailed 25 runs in 15 deliveries at a strike rate of 166.67, thanks to one boundary and two sixes.

In reply, Bangladesh were reduced to 124/9. Shamim Hossain was the leading run-getter of the side with 30 runs in 25 balls, while the batters were not able to put bat on the ball and stay longer at the crease. They fell short of the target by 11 runs and were knocked out of the tournament.

Now, for the very first time in the history of the Asia Cup, Pakistan will face India. They have lost the last seven contests between these two sides while facing successive defeats in the group-stage and Super 4 clashes of the tournament.

Pakistan didn’t make a sweet start with the bat during the Super 4 fixture of the 2025 season of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium as they kept losing wickets regularly inside the first six overs of the innings. It was a do-or-die situation for the two sides as the winner would make it into the final to face India on September 28.

These kinds of games would always demand strong character. Pakistan, however, continued to make silly mistakes, whether it’s in the field or with the bat, as a video clip of their batters taking runs in between the 22-yard went viral. It just showed the carelessness of the batter, Mohammad Haris, who forgot to maintain the basics of the game.

The incident occurred during the final delivery of the 10th over of the first innings when the captain, Salman Ali Agha, and the wicket-keeper batter, Mohammad Haris, were there for the Pakistan side at the side. The former hit the ball in the gap and set off for a run as the long-on fielder missed to collect the delivery.

The fielding effort in the deep was poor, which prompted the batters to take the second run. The replays showed that while completing the first run, Haris forgot to keep the bat inside the line in the crease, which resulted in a short run, as the incident came across as an epic brain fade moment. It went viral as the fans started to make fun of the batter.

Pakistan posted 135 runs in their allotted 20 overs of the first innings as Haris ended with 31 runs in 23 balls before Mohammed Nawaz drilled a few big shots to get 25 runs in 15 balls at a strike rate of 166.67. The left-handed batter cracked two sixes and one boundary.

Shamim Hossain smacked 30 runs for Bangladesh, which ended up being the top score in the innings. However, none of the batters could stand before the opposition bowling as they got knocked out of the event with an 11-run defeat.

Pakistan has a long history of being run out and making endless comedy of errors in the fielding, as was the case during the Super 4 clash against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Salman Ali Agha-led side didn’t enjoy the first inning with the bat as they posted a below-par total in their 20 overs.

On the first ball of the fifth over, Towhid Hridoy cut the short ball from Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi into the point region and took a few steps. His partner replied and also set out for the run, standing at the batting end. That was the perfect and easiest chance for the Pakistan side to get the batter short of his crease.

The throw came from the backward point region as the fielder, Saim Ayub, grabbed the ball and had a shy at the bowling end. The other fielders also charged in from different directions, but none of them were able to make a difference. The batter rushed back to his end as it became a viral moment on various social media platforms.

Batting first, Pakistan put 135 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs of the first innings. Their top order and middle order could hardly get runs as Mohammed Harif was the highest individual run-getter of the inning with 31 runs in 23 balls at a strike rate of 134.78, while Mohammed Nawaz smashed 25 runs in 15 balls.

With the ball, Taskin Ahmed picked up three wickets in their four overs for an economy rate of seven. Mehedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain also shared four wickets between them. In reply, Bangladesh fell short of the chase by 11 runs as Shamim Hossain’s 30 runs went in vain.

Shaheen Afridi ended with three wickets for 17 runs in four overs, while Haris Rauf also picked up three wickets along with Saim Ayub’s two in the second innings as they claimed the win and qualified for the final to face India on September 28.

Last week was a horrible time for Pakistan in the shortest format as they faced a 2-1 defeat in the three-match T20I series in Bangladesh. Their batting was in question for the first two fixtures as they couldn’t show their skills and firepower in the challenging conditions of spin. It’s not positive news for the Green Brigade, looking at the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka in just six months.

Their head coach, Mike Hesson, has shared the roadmap to develop the team’s future. He reckoned that, standing at the eighth position in the rankings, they would need a different style of play to bring depth to the system. Hesson also remarked that the two contrasting pitches gave them key insights before the Asia Cup 2025.

‘Currently sitting 8th in the world, we need to create depth and competition for places as well as play a style of cricket that can give us more consistency over time, especially at key events like the Asia Cup and World Cups. The first 6 games on two contrasting pitches gave us key insights. A young batting group shone with 200+ scores early.’ The former RCB coach expressed in a tweet he shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Mike Hesson shares plans to develop Pakistan’s future amid criticism of Bangladesh series defeat

Pakistan took a huge decision by dropping both Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan from the T20I squad. Since their poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States of America and the West Indies, where they couldn’t qualify from the group stage, the selectors have ignored the two veteran batters.

‘Mirpur, which is the lowest-scoring venue in T20I, certainly tested our adaptability, and after struggling early, we fought back and showed an ability to learn with experience. New players stepped up, showing promise and, in some instances, excelling. Specialist Coaches have played a key role in developing bowlers both here and at the NCA.’ The former New Zealand coach revealed.

‘Fielding was a huge step up in the last two matches and was starting to look like an International fielding side. Onwards.’ He added that they look forward to doing well in the Asia Cup, which is expected to take place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in September 2025.

Pakistan’s woes in the shortest format continue as their side faced an eight-run defeat in the second T20I of the three-match series and now has already lost it by a 2-0 margin with another game to go in Dhaka. In the first game, the Green Brigade couldn’t put enough runs on the board in the first innings, while in the second, they failed to chase down 134 runs and were 15/5 at one point.

However, there is some different news that has arrived regarding the captain, Salman Ali Agha, whose father has displayed his concern for the health of his son after the defeat. His father reckoned that since the defeat in the second game, his beloved son had avoided eating and drinking and had also locked himself in a room.

Salman Ali Agha’s father concerned with his son’s health after Pakistan’s T20I series defeat against Bangladesh

It was nearly the same sort of surface in Dhaka, to which the visiting coach, Mike Hessan, showed his frustration. He felt that it wasn’t an idea track for the shortest format with the spinners coming into the game from the very first over. It was a very slow surface, and batting got tough as the innings progressed.

During the second game, Pakistan restricted the home side to 133 in 20 overs. Apart from Parvez Emon, Jaker Ali, and Mehedi Hassan, no one could get to the double figures. Jaker smashed 55 runs in 48 balls at a strike rate of 114 with one boundary and five sixes. Mehedi drilled 33 runs in 25 balls.

In reply, Pakistan’s top six collected only 18 runs with the best individual score of nine and three ducks. The home side survived Faheem Ashraf, who got 51 runs in 32 balls at a strike rate of 160. They were bundled out for 125 runs in 19.2 overs, which doesn’t provide a strong message just seven months before the T20 World Cup 2026.

Bangladesh cricket team is flying high with back-to-back T20I series wins, as they secured a home bilateral T20I series against Pakistan after winning the thrilling second game on Tuesday night at Mirpur.

Trailing the three-match T20I away series by 1-0, Pakistan captain Salman Agha chose to field first in the second T20I. After restricting Bangladesh to 133 all out in 20 overs, Pakistan were all out for 125 runs in 19.2 overs, as the hosts Bangladesh have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead with the last match yet to be played.

Bangladesh won their first T20I bilateral series (at least two matches) against Pakistan

It is the first time Bangladesh won a T20I bilateral series against Pakistan, consisting of more than one match. While it was the fifth time Bangladesh won a T20I against Pakistan, it was the first time for them to record a successful defend result against Pakistan in T20I cricket.

It was the fourth successive T20I win for Bangladesh, who just completed their historic T20I bilateral series win in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, it was the ninth defeat for Pakistan in their last 10 T20Is outside the home venue, running with a four-match T20I losing streak outside home.

BAN vs PAK 2nd T20I: Key Performances

Jaker Ali and Mahedi Hasan rescued hosts with the bat

Although Bangladesh had a rough start in the second T20I on Tuesday with the score of 28/4, Jaker Ali and Mahedi Hasan bravely fought to set a challenging target on the tough batting pitch. While Mahedi scored 33 off 25 balls with two fours and two sixes, as Jaker and Mahedi had a 53-run partnership for the fifth wicket, Jaker was present till the last ball of the innings and scored 55 off 48 balls with one four and five sixes. Apart from them, only the opener Parvez Hossain Emon (13) reached the double-digit scores in that innings.

Among the Pakistan bowlers, Salman Mirza (2/17), debutant Ahmed Daniyal (2/23), and Abbas Afridi (2/37) bagged two wickets each.

Early collapse proved costly for Pakistan

In reply, Pakistan were struggling at 47/7. Only Faheem Ashraf managed to reach the 20-run mark with his fighting 51 off 32 balls with four fours and four sixes. Abbas Afridi (19), Ahmed Daniyal (17), and Khushdil Shah (13) were the other visiting batters with double-digit scores in that innings. As Pakistan scored 17/5 at the end of the powerplay, it ultimately proved as the main point of the game, despite the lower-order batters' desperate fight.

Among Bangladesh bowlers, Shoriful Islam got three wickets (3/17), while Mahedi Hasan (2/25) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/23) managed to pick up two wickets in the innings.

After just one match, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has again banned bringing food and drinks into the stadium for the second and third T20I matches between Bangladesh and Pakistan. These matches will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on July 22 and 24.

Spectators will not be allowed to carry any food or drinks into the stadium during these two games. In a public notice, the BCB said that the ban is due to "special security concerns."

“For the upcoming 2nd and 3rd T20I matches between Bangladesh and Pakistan, scheduled for July 22 and 24 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, carrying any kind of food or drink into the venue is strictly not allowed due to security reasons,” the notice said.

Fans Praised BCB’s Food Rule in First Match

In the first T20I on Sunday, BCB allowed fans to bring food and water from outside. Many people were happy. They said food and drinks inside the stadium were too costly. Families felt more comfortable because they could bring their own snacks and water. Fans called it a good step.

BCB Brings Back the Ban After One Game

But after just one match, BCB stopped this rule again. They said it was for security reasons. Some fans also behaved badly, which caused problems.

"This decision caused a lot of chaos yesterday. The security forces asked us to bring the ban back," said BCB’s media head Iftekhar Rahman Mithu. Now fans are unhappy. Many wrote on social media that the board should not use “security reasons” every time. They want better rules that help fans, not full bans.

Fans have started sharing their concerns on social media, asking if "security reasons" are being used as an excuse for everything. They are also requesting the board to find fan-friendly solutions instead of putting blanket bans.

Pakistan have changed over the years, but their character of getting run out hilariously has still been the same. And during their humiliating seven-wicket defeat during the first of the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, they faced another instance of a comedy of errors, as their opener, Fakhar Zaman, got run out.

The incident took place on the third ball of the 12th over of the first innings of the Green Brigade, bowled by Mustafizur Rahman. Khusdil Shah was on strike, and he played a cut short in the point region. The striker rushed onto the bowling end, took a single, and again started to come back for the second. Khusdil took a few steps in taking the second run as Fakhar came with the momentum.

But suddenly, he stopped after taking a few steps, while Fakhar kept running in. Later, he realized that the run won’t get completed. The southpaw stopped in the middle of the crease and looked to get back to the striker’s end. But that was too late for the batter to get back as the wicket-keeper Litton Das had already collected the ball and broken the stumps. Expectedly, Fakhar was not happy, and he left the field angrily.

Bangladesh, coming off a series victory with a 2-1 margin against Sri Lanka in the away series, won the toss and decided to bowl first in Dhaka as they expected to use the slow and dryness of the surface.
