Bowling actions in cricket can be hilarious. Some bowlers go through a very smooth progress in their run-up to get the best rhythm, while a few make scratchy ways to deliver the ball. It’s unique in many ways and can prove to be funny. There are various styles of bowling actions, like that of South Africa’s Paul Adams or the former Gujarat Lions’ bowler, Shivil Kaushik, who used to deliver the ball looking at the sky.

In a recent tweet on social media from a handle named ‘Gems of cricket’, a video has gone viral where there are three bowling actions which has left the fans laughing. The first action seems to have come from a local game where a bowler, named Raju, on his shirt, has delivered the ball after thumping his legs multiple times before delivering a leg spin.

The second bowling action of the video shows a bowler gently running up before showing his dancing skills before delivering the ball to the batter. The third and last action is the most unique of the list. This time, the bowler is running with the ball, and suddenly he puts it in the ground. But after taking a couple of steps, he again picked the ball off the ground and changed his direction to throw it at the batter.

Different bowlers tend to do this to break the concentration of the batter. There was a famous instance from the IPL when Andre Russell, in between his run-up, stopped in the middle and delivered the ball. Shane Watson left the ball outside the off-stump as the umpire revealed that he didn’t see the bowling stopping and couldn’t call it a dead ball.

The former Pakistan pacer, Sohail Tanvir, was another wrong-footed bowler. In his run-up and delivery, he used to look so awkward as his left-arm pacer swing unpredictably. Danish Kaneria was another spinner whose leg-spin featured a theatrical run-up.

Generally, this kind of bowling action can lead to repeated injuries. Looking at Jasprit Bumrah’s action at the initial stage, it looked awkward. Many predicted that he would pick up injuries at the latter stage of his career. But he is now the best all-format bowler of the modern era.
