Watch: Babar Azam furious after controversial umpiring decision in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

Babar Azam was left frustrated after a controversial umpiring decision during his return to domestic cricket in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on Wednesday, November 4. The Lahore Whites batter was given out for 28 off 40 balls against FATA Region after the umpire accepted a caught-behind appeal from the opposition.

The Babar Azam controversial dismissal quickly became a talking point as the Pakistan Test captain appeared unhappy with the umpire's decision. Babar indicated that the delivery had hit his thigh pad rather than his bat, but the on-field umpire refused to change the decision.

Babar returned to domestic cricket following his disappointing performances in England, hoping to regain his batting form and confidence. However, his comeback took an unfortunate turn as the Babar Azam furious umpire moment attracted attention among cricket fans, especially because there was no DRS available in the domestic match.

Babar Azam controversial dismissal: What happened in Lahore Whites vs FATA Region?

The incident happened in the 28th over of the match when Afaq Afridi bowled a good-length delivery to Babar Azam. The ball moved away from the right-handed batter as he attempted to play a shot, but it passed towards the wicketkeeper, prompting a loud appeal for a catch behind.

The umpire accepted the appeal and raised his finger, giving Babar out. However, the batter appeared unhappy with the decision and gestured towards the umpire, indicating that the ball had hit his thigh pad rather than the bat. The Babar Azam out thigh pad controversy became the main talking point following his dismissal for 28 off 40 balls.

Babar could not challenge the decision because there was no DRS facility available in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match. The Babar Azam no DRS situation meant he had to walk back to the pavilion despite disagreeing with the umpire's call. His dismissal also raised questions about the standard of umpiring in domestic cricket, with the Babar Azam caught behind decision attracting considerable attention.

Babar Azam’s poor form continues with the bat in 2026

Babar Azam's domestic comeback was expected to provide him with an opportunity to regain his confidence after a difficult period in international cricket. However, his dismissal against FATA Region added another disappointing outing to his recent record. The Babar Azam Quaid-e-Azam Trophy appearance ended with just 28 runs from 40 deliveries.

The right-handed batter has struggled to produce consistent performances in recent months, including his tour of England with Pakistan. He scored only 97 runs in four innings during the Test series, while he managed 118 runs in five innings at an average of 23.60 in the recently concluded tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England.

Overall, Babar has scored 815 runs in 22 innings across formats in 2026, averaging 37.04. He is yet to register a century this year, making his return to domestic cricket particularly important as he looks to improve his technique and rediscover his best form. The Babar Azam poor form 2026 discussion is likely to continue until he produces consistent performances with the bat.
