Dinesh Karthik on Rohit Sharma's retirement rumors

The former Indian wicket-keeper batter, Dinesh Karthik, has made a big statement about the retirement rumours surrounding Rohit Sharma, who has gone through a tough period in the three-match ODI series against England after poor scores in the first ODI at Edgbaston and the second at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

Rohit managed only one fifty in the previous three-match 50-over series at home against Afghanistan, which included a 79-run knock during the third encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Karthik claimed that he would not react to any rumours about his retirement and talked about how false statements circulate on social media. Besides that, he also shed light on the attitude of Rohit and what he has delivered for the national side.

“I am not sure. You know, I tend not to react to rumours. So, I will just wait for that to happen before I make my opinion on it because a lot of things like that which keep swirling around on social media, I have problems understanding. You know, I have been at it sometimes, and I have said nothing about it.” Karthik expressed this in a recent podcast at Lord’s.

“Let things unfold before I make an opinion on it. Rohit is one of India’s greatest white-ball players with the kind of attitude and memories he has brought to the table on and off the field with a lot of the players, even smiling for the rest of his life.” He addressed.

Karthik also recalled his journey under Rohit’s leadership during the T20 World Cup 2022 and how they later won the titles in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy 2025.

“I have a lot of time for Rohit. He is a dear friend of mine. I just feel he is one of the best that has played the game and the leader that he became. And I am very lucky to play alongside him in the 2022 World Cup journey. And I enjoy every time being part of the team.” The Chennai-born added.

The right-handed batter has desired to play in the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. The Nagpur-born was superb for the national side during India’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign in India, T20 World Cup 2024, and the Champions Trophy 2025 journeys.
