The West Indies were thoroughly outplayed and decimated by Australia in the third Test at Sabina Park in Kingston. Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland unleashed hell on the inexperienced Windies batting lineup to skittle them for a shambolic 27 in the second innings. In a series that has been largely dominated by the ball, the West Indian quicks played their part with the ball in crucial stages of the series, but the batters failed to follow suit and, as a result, suffered a 0-3 drubbing at the hands of the 2025 WTC Finalist.

Following their humiliating Sabina Park embarrassment, fans worldwide have come down hard on West Indies cricket as they simply can't fathom the shocking downfall. After the West Indies' historic win at the Gabba in 2024, the fans expected the Men in Maroon to put up a fight. After two closely contested tests, the West Indies were tasked with chasing down 204 to avoid a series whitewash. It all came down to their batters, who failed to put up any resistance of sorts, and as a result, capitulated for the second-lowest total in Test cricket.

Congratulations to Mitchell Starc on surpassing 400 Test wickets 👏

He finished with 6/9 in the second innings.

The poor show with the bat has allowed West Indies to stoop to a new low. Across all three Tests, the West Indies batters struggled to hold their ground and reportedly failed to bat even beyond the 35th over mark. Following their latest decline in Test cricket, calls for a two-tier Test system from the fans have grown louder ever since.

But despite the tragedy with the bat, the West Indies had a few positives to cherish. Their pace battery, featuring Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, and to some extent, Justin Greaves, went rampant with the ball. Shamar in particular fired on all cylinders and finished as the series' highest wicket-taker with 22 wickets under his belt. Alzarri and Seales emerged as the joint fourth-highest wicket-takers with 13 wickets and one five-wicket haul each to their name. Had their batters complemented the efforts of their bowlers to some extent, the series score line may have appeared a lot different.

<![CDATA[Massive blow for Pakistan! West Indies reject PCB’s request to replace ODIs with more T20s!]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/massive-blow-for-pakistan-west-indies-reject-pcb-s-request-to-replace-odis-with-more-t20s/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/massive-blow-for-pakistan-west-indies-reject-pcb-s-request-to-replace-odis-with-more-t20s/ Fri, 04 Jul 2025 21:07:38 GMT

The West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) is said to turn down the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) proposal to alter the upcoming white-ball tour by replacing the scheduled ODIs with more T20 Internationals. The decision comes despite the PCB's intentions to enhance T20 match preparation ahead of major tournaments like the 2025 ACC Men's Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

According to reports, the PCB had requested that the planned three-match ODI series be shortened or scrapped entirely, proposing instead an expanded T20I leg. The aim was to provide the national side with more competitive action in the shortest format as part of its broader strategic focus.
however, despite ongoing discussions between the boards, the CWI is firm on retaining the original itinerary.

As it stands, Pakistan will play the entire white-ball tour as initially planned—three T20Is followed by three ODIs. The T20I series begins on July 31 (Aug 1 PST), and the ODIs are scheduled for August 8, 10, and 12.
Had the proposal been accepted, the T20I leg might have been expanded to five or six matches, completely eliminating the ODI series.

Schedule Set to Stay Unchanged Ahead of Busy White-Ball Season

An official confirmation of the unchanged schedule is expected soon, reaffirming the commitment of both boards to maintain bilateral consistency. For CWI, it is important to retain the ODI format as a matter of regenerating their 50-over team, particularly after their failure to qualify for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's squad for their tour of the West Indies is expected to be announced alongside their team for the Bangladesh series, streamlining selections and preparations across formats. Both teams are in rebuild and preparation mode for significant white-ball events. Therefore, the series provides an important opportunity to try combinations of players and build momentum.

A West Indian cricketer has reportedly been accused of sexual assault in Guyana during the team’s ongoing three-match home Test series against Australia. A 24-year-old woman claimed the incident occurred after she went on a date with the player. The alleged assault reportedly happened near her residence in Providence, East Bank Demerara. As per Guyana-based Kaieteur News, the woman provided WhatsApp messages where the cricketer appeared to apologize for his actions and allegedly offered her money, further fueling the seriousness of the situation.

In addition to this, SportsMax TV reported that multiple victims have come forward with similar accusations, alleging a widespread cover-up intended to shield the accused player. The channel contacted Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Kishore Shallow, inquiring whether the board was aware of these claims and whether any investigation had been launched. The situation has sparked serious concerns over how the matter is being handled and the potential implications for West Indies cricket.

"Cricket West Indies is unaware of the circumstances and, therefore, is not in a position to comment at this time," Shallow said on behalf of Cricket West Indies.

It is a matter of some significant sensitivity: Nigel Hughes

In addition to it, Nigel Hughes, who is the lawyer representing one of the alleged victims, spoke to SportsMax TV and stated that the matter was highly sensitive. He revealed that the allegations had been made two years ago and that an investigation had taken place. According to him, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had recommended filing charges. He mentioned that this coincided with the famous Test match win by the West Indies in Australia, after which the suspect returned, and there had been no updates since. Hughes also said that his firm had been contacted about the case two years earlier and that, following a more recent allegation, they had made inquiries about the status of his client’s complaint, but had not received any substantial information.

"It is a matter of some significant sensitivity. The allegations that were leveled by the victims were leveled two years ago. An investigation was conducted, and we understand that there were recommendations from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to institute charges. You will recall the very famous Test match, which the West Indies won in Australia, occurred at the same time, and the suspect returned together and we have heard nothing since. My firm was initially contacted about two years ago, and with the more recent allegation, inquiries were made yesterday and the day before about what the status of my client's complaint was, and we have not been able to obtain any significant information," Hughes told.

Meanwhile, the West Indies are currently competing against Australia in the Test series opener in Barbados. Following the completion of the three red-ball fixtures, the two sides will lock horns in a five-match T20I series, beginning July 12.

<![CDATA[Campbell handed a four-match suspension by CWI for "no show" in the Super50 final]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/campbell-handed-a-four-match-suspension-by-cwi-for-no-show-in-the-super50-final/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/campbell-handed-a-four-match-suspension-by-cwi-for-no-show-in-the-super50-final/ Sat, 07 Dec 2024 11:16:08 GMT

In a peculiar turn of events, the final match of the 2024-25 Super50 competition in the Caribbean had to be forfeited in extreme circumstances as the captains of both teams failed to turn up for the toss. The concerned umpires had deemed the conditions to be safe enough for a 20-over contest.

But amidst the gloomy overhead conditions, captains from Jamaica Scorpions and Barbados Pride were concerned about taking the field, and with no one present at the toss, no trophy was awarded and the final had to be forfeited.

Skipper Campbell penalized with a four-match suspension for "no show"

The Jamaica Scorpions skipper expressed his regret for not turning up for the Super50 final and apologized for bringing the game to disrepute. He has been reprimanded by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and handed a four-match suspension which will bar him from the upcoming four games of the next Super50 season.

"I sincerely regret any disruption caused during the final and acknowledge that my actions may have been perceived as resistance to the match officials' decision. It was never my intention to undermine their authority or bring the game into disrepute. I fully acknowledge the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game and the need for adherence to the rules and decisions of the officials."

On the other end of the spectrum, Barbados captain Raymon Reifer is also expected to meet a similar fate. He faces similar charges as Campbell but is yet to respond officially to the charges leveled against him by the match referee Reon King.

The forfeiture of the Super50 final also meant that no match fees or prize money for the winners or the runners-up was possible to be distributed which was subsequently made clear by the national body.

More about John Campbell

The Jamaican-born John Campbell has represented West Indies in all formats of the game. The 31-year-old bats left-handed and generally opens the batting for his national and domestic side.

While his appearance in the T20I format was very shortlived, Campbell played a major chunk of his games in the red-ball format scoring 888 runs in 20 matches at an average of 26.11. However, in FC cricket, his average jumps to nearly 30 and has managed to slam six centuries and 50 half-centuries under his belt.

Amidst reports of security threats to the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has moved swiftly to allay fears and reassure stakeholders of the safety measures for the event.

CWI’s Response

In a statement to Cricbuzz, CWI CEO Jonny Graves emphasized their commitment to safety and security, stating, “We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event.”

Nature of Security Alert

The security alert, citing Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources, raises concerns about potential violence targeting sporting events. The alert highlights messages from Khorasan (IS-K), urging supporters to incite violence in various countries.

The security alert states that, “Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries.”

Actions Taken by Authorities

Caribbean media reports indicate that authorities, including Caricom and security agencies, are actively monitoring and addressing potential threats to the World Cup. Prime Minister Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago affirmed the collaborative efforts to combat the threat.

“We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place,” Graves further told to Cricbuzz.

The Twenty20 World Cup matches are spread across several venues in the West Indies, including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. Additionally, matches will be held in US cities such as Florida, New York, and Texas.

It has been reported that intelligence of a potential threat to the World Cup has been received through Pro-Islamic State (Daesh) through the media group “Nashir Pakistan”. According to Daily Express, Nashir-e Pakistan is an Islamic State group-affiliated propaganda channel.
