Australia skipper Pat Cummins gave his team one of the important breakthroughs of the innings in Roston Chase. Cummins took the wicket of his counterpart through a leg before the wicket. Alzarri Joseph in the lower order came and played a quick 23-run innings to boost up his team's total. West Indies was able to reach 190 in the first innings in reply to Australia's 180. The pacers of Australia did their job precisely. Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Beau Webster took a brace each, and Mitchell Starc claimed 3 scalps.

Before the end of Day 2, Australia found themselves again in trouble as they lost all of their top four batters before reaching the three-digit score. Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph, Alzarri Joseph, and Justin Greaves all bagged one wicket each to restrict the visitors to 92 at the end of the day.
