In 51th match of IPL 2025 between Gujarat Titans and SunRisers Hyderabad gave fans a rare look at a different side of Shubman Gill. The usually calm and collected GT captain was clearly upset during the game and even had to be taken off the field for a bit to cool down.

Gill, who is known for being soft-spoken and level-headed, lost his cool more than once. It was surprising to see him argue with the umpires, but it also showed how much the match and his team means to him. Maybe we saw a glimpse of the kind of leader he could become if he ever leads India one day.

What Made Shubman So Angry?

There were two moments in the match that fired him up. The first was when he got out in a controversial run-out at the end of the 13th over. A direct throw from Harshal Patel caught him short of the crease, but the drama was about how the stumps were broken. Wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen seemed to lose control of the ball just before the bails came off. The TV umpire, Michael Gough, watched the replays from different angles. Some showed the ball possibly not being in Klaasen’s gloves when the stumps were hit. Still, the umpire gave Gill out.

Gill stayed calm during the review, but once he walked off, he went straight to the boundary and had a serious chat with the match official. He clearly felt the decision was unfair.

Shubman Gill Shows His Fiery Side in GT vs SRH Clash

The second moment came during SRH’s innings. GT appealed for LBW against Abhishek Sharma, Gill’s close friend. The umpire gave it not out, and the replay showed “umpire’s call” on the leg side. Gill argued with the on-field umpire, and Abhishek had to step in and pull him away. A few moments later, Gill jokingly kicked Abhishek’s legs still annoyed, but starting to smile again. GT coach Ashish Nehra then pulled Gill into the dugout for a while, likely to calm him down and avoid any chance of getting fined or banned.

Even though emotions got the better of him for a bit, Gill has been in great form this season. After a tough 2024, he has bounced back and led GT from the front. He’s scored 465 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 162, and one of GT’s top three batters has hit a fifty in every game so far.

After the match, Gill admitted the emotions were running high. "There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire. Sometimes, there are so many emotions involved as you give your 110 percent there are bound to be some,” he said.
That’s what fans love to see a captain who gives his all, not just with the bat, but with his heart.

On May 2, Shubman Gill showed that he’s not just a stylish batter. He’s growing into a leader who isn’t afraid to speak up, who fights for his team, and who feels every moment of the game.
For years, he’s been called the ‘prince’ of Indian cricket. But after Friday night, it feels like he’s slowly stepping into the shoes of a future king. With the Rohit-Virat era nearing its end, maybe India’s next leader is already showing us what he’s made of.

There are constant rumours about the personal life of Team India's star batsman Shubman Gill. He is currently captaining the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL. Under his leadership, the team is at the top of the IPL 2025 points table, winning 6 out of 8 matches so far. Now, the prince of Indian cricket has added another feather to his cap. In the IPL 2025 season, Gill has scored 465* runs till now. With this, he has become the only captain to score over 400 runs in this year's tournament.

Gill was in the spotlight for yesterday’s match. The Gujarat Titans captain played a strong innings against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was close to scoring a century but got run out while trying to steal a run. However, he looked unhappy with the umpire’s decision. A video of him went viral on social media, where he is seen arguing heatedly with the match official near the boundary line.

Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans (GT) captain, found himself in an anxious situation while his team was playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad during their IPL 2025 game. He was given out upon a questionable run-out, one which he emphatically opposed. After that decision, he exchanged heated words with the umpires on the field and could be seen hotly debating off the boundary too.

The incident occurred on May 2, and ever since there has been a discussion about whether Gill could be suspended from GT's next match. No such announcement has been made so far. The IPL match referee continues to investigate what occurred and will determine whether Gill's actions violated any rules.

Earlier during the tournament, Gill had already received a fine of ₹12 lakh for a slow over-rate. Although that offense is different, habitual behavior has the potential to invite more serious punishment. It has piqued the fans' interest more as to what next decision would be.

Will Shubman Gill Be Banned?
There is no ban on Shubman Gill right now. However, the match officials are considering it. If they consider his conduct to be improper, he can be fined or suspended for one match. If the action is not considered severe, he may be warned only.

For Gujarat Titans, every match matters now as the team battles for a playoff position. Losing their captain at this point may impact their chances. The fans are hoping he gets cleared and continues to captain the team in the coming matches.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why Sunrisers Hyderabad Lost to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 Match 51]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-sunrisers-hyderabad-lost-to-gujarat-titans-in-ipl-2025-match-51/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-sunrisers-hyderabad-lost-to-gujarat-titans-in-ipl-2025-match-51/ Sat, 03 May 2025 01:37:58 GMT

In IPL 2025 Match 51, Gujarat Titans (GT) overcame Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 38 runs, as they were able to defend a score of 224/6 in Ahmedabad. SRH did well to put up a score of 196/6 but were ultimately outclassed by the bowling and batting, in particular, of GT. Here are the main reasons why SRH came up short in the match.

SRH struggled in their chase of 225 for several reasons, but fundamentally, GT bowled with discipline, and SRH fell off the pace set by a solid start. The top order of SRH batted well; an innings of 74 from 41 from Abhishek Sharma gave SRH a good base to build off. Unfortunately for SRH, their middle order collapsed under pressure from GT's bowlers, with Prasidh Krishna (2/19) and Mohammed Siraj (2/33) picking crucial wickets in successive overs, and SRH was unable to luxuriously chase down the total. Heinrich Klaasen (23 off 18) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (21 off 10) were unable to maintain the run-rate pressure despite their runs, but were unable to help the SRH batting deep, and it was too much work for their lower order. SRH pitched well at the death too, with Ishant Sharma (1/35 in 3.2) not allowing an early aggression turn into anything momentous, and SRH will rue their lack of capitalizing on solid positions, as their score was a fair effort against the GT batting.

1. Expensive Powerplay Bowling

Sunrisers Hyderabad could not stem a rampant Gujarat Titans in the first six overs. The bowlers did not find their lines or lengths consistently and let too many boundaries through. The SRH Captain Pat Cummins did say, “We let them get 20 or 30 extra just with some bad balls.” The early momentum afforded GT's top order the freedom to accelerate, leaving them with a daunting total of 224/6.

2. Dropped Catches and Missed Opportunities

Fielding lapses were a significant contributor to the SRH downfall. Missed chances meant batters such as Synman Gill (76 off 38) and Jos Buttler (64 off 37) were able to cash in. Cummins did admit they missed some catches in the middle overs and said, “I am guilty there as well.” In a high-scoring contest, the extra lives may have ended up deciding the result.

3. Inconsistent Middle-Order Batting

Abhishek Sharma gave SRH a strong platform with his 74 off 41; however, their middle-order failures saw those good moves wasted. Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy gave brief cameos, but a lack of partnerships and strike rotation through the middle overs meant they finished with too much to do at the end, eventually finishing 186/6.

The IPL 2025 Match 51 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). GT scored 224/6 in 20 overs, while SRH managed 186/6 in their 20 overs, resulting in a 38-run victory for GT.

Gujarat Titans innings

Gujarat Titans blitzed to a score of 224/6 all within their allotted 20 overs due to a dominant top order. Opening batsman Shubham Gill led the way with a quickfire 76 runs off 38 deliveries, showing everyone what class looks like with some aesthetically pleasing shots. Jos Buttler assisted Gill nicely with 64 runs off 37 balls, keeping the run rate under control during the middle overs. Sai Sudharsan exploded with a 48-run innings off just 23 deliveries, which helped maintain momentum for GT. Although there was a solid base to work with, GT lost a couple of wickets late to finish at a solid total. Jaydev Unadkat was the pick of Sunrisers bowlers, grabbing 3 wickets for 35 runs, while Pat Cummins and Zeeshan Ansari also chimed in with a wicket each, albeit going at a much higher economy.

Sunrisers Hyderabad innings

Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the flip side of the scoreboard, were only able to muster a score of 186 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs, falling short by 38 runs. Abhishek Sharma played a brilliant innings of 74 runs off 41 balls, keeping Sunrisers in touch with the fast run chase, especially when he started to play aggressively. The biggest issue with the chase was there were no middle-order contributions for SRH. Some resistance was shown by Heinrich Klaasen (23 runs off 18 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (21 runs off 10), but it was not enough as the target continued to look further away. Gujarat bowled sharply, with Prasid Krishna chipping in with the most economical bowling performance of all with figures of 2/19 off his 4 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Ishant Sharma also contributed crucial wickets, maintaining pressure throughout.

GT vs SRH: Post Match Reactions

Prasidh Krishna (Player of the Match & Purple Cap Holder): "It feels no different," said Krishna after delivering a match-winning performance of 2/19. And after two heartbreaking losses, he understood the importance of winning at home. He credited his success with length control and staff support and noted, "I am really enjoying how the ball is coming out." In preparation for the England tour, he copped to practicing on his own in his room with a red ball.

Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Captain): Gill complimented his top order and fielding unit. "We did not plan for 22 dot balls; we played positive cricket. But nobody saw the difficult conditions of black soil to bat on." He praised the bowlers for making the right adjustments.

Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans): Butler said the team displayed their best fielding effort of the season: "Rashid's catch set the tone." He praised Sudharsan's consistency and Krishna's disciplined bowling. "Prasidh is smart about using his variations and mixing lengths."

Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad Captain): Cummins said SRH conceded probably too many runs (20-30) during the powerplay and dropped catches. But he praised Abhishek Sharma's knock, and he was looking ahead with optimism: "There is a good young core within the SRH team, and the atmosphere is electric with a crowd of 90,000."

Rashid Khan once again proved why he is one of the most valuable players in the IPL, not just for his bowling or occasional power-hitting, but also for his exceptional fielding skills. During the IPL 2025 clash between the Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rashid pulled off a breathtaking catch that left fans in awe. Known for his agility and awareness on the field, the Afghan star reminded everyone of his all-around prowess, drawing widespread praise and attention for a moment of brilliance that stole the show.

The incident occurred in the fifth over of SRH’s innings when Prasidh Krishna was bowling to Travis Head. Head, who was off to a promising start along with Abhishek Sharma, tried to hit a shot toward mid-wicket. However, Rashid Khan was perfectly positioned near the boundary. Despite the challenging angle and the pace of the ball, he ran in the opposite direction and completed a jaw-dropping catch that stunned viewers and commentators alike. His athleticism and sharp reflexes ensured the Gujarat Titans got a crucial early breakthrough.

Head’s dismissal, after scoring 20 runs off 16 deliveries, shifted the momentum slightly in Gujarat’s favor. The video of Rashid’s catch quickly went viral across social media platforms, with fans and cricket experts praising the effort. Rashid's fielding brilliance not only halted SRH's flying start but also showcased the importance of fielding in modern-day T20 cricket. Moments like these highlight how game-changing a single act of fielding can be in a fast-paced tournament like the IPL.

SRH Chasing 225 to Win

Sunrisers Hyderabad were chasing a challenging target of 225 runs and eventually fell short by 38, finishing their innings at 186/6 in 20 overs. Openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma gave SRH a flying start, with Abhishek smashing 74 off 41 balls. However, Head was dismissed for 20 after a spectacular catch by Rashid Khan. The middle order couldn’t build on the momentum, as Ishan Kishan and Klaasen failed to convert their starts. Regular wickets halted their progress, and the run rate kept climbing beyond reach.

Despite late efforts from Nitish Kumar Reddy (21\*) and Pat Cummins (19\*), SRH couldn’t close the gap. Gujarat’s bowlers were disciplined, with Prasidh Krishna (2/19), Mohammed Siraj (2/32), and Coetzee contributing key breakthroughs. Rashid Khan was economical and impactful in the field, including a highlight-reel catch. Ishant Sharma also chipped in with a crucial wicket. Gujarat Titans’ solid bowling and strong fielding sealed the 38-run win, keeping them firmly placed in the top half of the IPL 2025 table.

During their IPL 2025 match against SunRisers Hyderabad on Friday, May 2, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Shubman Gill's explosive innings for Gujarat Titans came to an end in controversial fashion. Gill was run out on the last ball of the 13th over, which led to significant debate about whether the run-out was legitimate. The run-out came at an important juncture of Gujarat's innings when Gill was well on his way to scoring a century.

It all started with Harshal Patel making an excellent throw to the striker's end, and Gill, who was well short of the crease. But subsequently, the big talking point was whether or not SRH wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen removed the bails with the ball in hand. While it was clear Gill was off his ground, the circumstances of how the bails were removed were not very clear. From some angles, it would appear that Klaasen removed the bails with his glove along the base of the stumps and not the ball. "Does he dislodge the bails with the ball or his gloves?"

TV umpire Michael Gough watched the same sequence of replays from multiple angles. One replay, for instance, showed Klaasen flicking the ball on towards the stumps at the same time the bails were being dislodged. However, the best angles showed no clear evidence to decide one way or another if the ball has made contact with the stumps and dislodged the bails. Despite this uncertainty, Gough ruled Gill out, which led to a visibly furious reaction from the GT captain, who later confronted the fourth official near the boundary line, demanding an explanation.

Gill’s Masterclass Cut Short

Before the controversial exit, Shubman Gill was batting phenomenally, showing class and timing for his 76 runs off just 38 balls; 10 fours and 2 sixes were struck, all with no risk taken. The talismanic opener had brought up his 50 in just 25 balls, exhibiting pleasing strokemaking and strong level-headedness. Gill firstly stitched an 87-run opening partnership with Sai Sudharsan, who offered a scintillating performance of his own with a rapid 48 off 23 balls, before passing on to his rapid 52-run partnership with Jos Buttler, all leaving Gujarat to target a 200-plus score.

The IPL’s match referee and governing council have not issued an official statement regarding the incident. It remains to be seen whether the matter will be addressed formally or dismissed as a judgment call. Either way, the controversy has added fuel to ongoing debates about umpiring standards in the world’s premier T20 league.

GT vs SRH Probable Winners:

IPL 2025 has taken Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad in very different directions. GT is performing consistently, whereas SRH continues to struggle. Their top-order lineup looks strong on paper, but it hasn't always delivered—rash shots and unexpected collapses have cost them games they appeared to be in control of. If their top batters settle in, they can rip through any bowling side. However, doing it in Ahmedabad toward a disciplined GT attack is a different story. SRH still has the firepower to turn the tide if their top three perform well, but with GT undefeated in their last four meetings, the home team appears to be the more reliable choice. Considering the team combination, Gujarat Titans is expected to win this match.

Gujarat Titans(GT) will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) in the Fifty-one match of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. SRH came close to winning the title last season but finished as runners-up, while GT failed to qualify for playoffs in the IPL 2024.

Mohammed Siraj brilliantly bowled in that match, taking 4 wickets for just 17 runs, which helped to control the Sunrisers Hyderabad to 152/8. His aggressive bowling kept the SRH batsmen under control. Chasing the target, Shubman Gill led from the front, scoring an unbeaten 61.
