The IPL 2025 season continues to deliver thrilling action as teams fiercely compete for top positions. Match 38 of the IPL 2025 season was played at the Eden Gardens between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 21. The GT defeated KKR by 39 runs in a comprehensive performance that consolidated their standing in the points table through their clinical all-around display.

Gujarat Titans Innings

The Gujarat Titans put up a dominant batting performance after being put in to bat first. The skipper, Shubman Gill, drove the GT batting effort forward by smashing 90 runs from his 55 deliveries to advance the team score while maintaining consistent run-scoring. Sai Sudharsan partnered Gill by facing 36 balls, during which he scored his half-century before the innings ended at 198/3 in twenty overs. Jos Buttler provided the finishing blow to the GT innings by striking 41 runs without loss while facing 23 deliveries, thus enabling GT to post a total of 198/3 in 20 overs.

Russell's tight spell of 1/13 over 1 bowled by KKR earned him recognition among the team's bowlers following his 1-over performance. He received support from Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana, who claimed one wicket, but each resulted in a huge number of conceded runs at 44 and 45 during their 4-over stint.

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings

Chasing a stiff target of 199, the Knight Riders fell short, managing only 159/8 in their 20 overs. In the KKR batting lineup, Ajinkya Rahane made 50 runs from 36 deliveries to lead the team, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi finished with an attacking 27 from 13 balls. During KKR's innings, Andre Russell hit 21 runs off 15 balls, yet he did not develop this score into a decisive triumph.

The Titans limited the opposition with consistent bowling performance throughout the game. The match belonged to Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan, as both claimed 2 wickets against 25 runs in their 4-over allocations. Ishant Sharma maintained his economy rate through two overs, which restricted KKR to 1/18, thus preventing them from getting anywhere close to the target.

KKR vs GT: Post Match Reactions

Shubman Gill (Captain and Player of the Match, GT): Gill was happy to have back-to-back wins for a team. He thought it was important for one of the top 3 batters to play to the end, and they needed to focus on adjusting to the pitch. Gill said he was happy to get the win, but there were some emotional moments, as finishing games can be tough even when ahead. He said they could have done some things a bit better, as they missed out on 10 extra runs and had some unforced ones again, but he thought the strength of their team was that they always found ways to win even when not playing as well as they could.

R Sai Kishore (GT): Sai Kishore said the pitch was helpful for bowlers throughout the game and even more so in the second innings. He said it is always important to adjust angles and speed when bowling to a dangerous batter like Andre Russell. He said it was good to have Rashid Khan on their side and called him one of the best T20 bowlers. As a team, they have every bit of belief in Rashid. Fielding was a big positive for GT, and they are continually focused on processes and playing good cricket.

Ajinkya Rahane (Captain, KKR): Rahane thought the target of 199 was achievable and commended the bowlers for keeping his team in the game. Although he did say the top orders need to make stronger starts. Rahane stressed the value of fielding and intention on the field. Rahane asked his batters to show courage and play attacking cricket while fully backing his middle-order players. Rahane went on to praise Angkrish Raghuvanshi's performance and discussed pushing players to maintain the run rate.

In Match 35 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a dominant performance against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, April 19. DC, batting first, put up a competitive total of 203 runs in their 20 overs, powered by some solid top-order batting. However, Gujarat’s Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets in a remarkable four-over spell to keep the scoring in check.

Gujarat Titans began their chase with intent, and the innings soon turned into a Jos Buttler masterclass. The English opener was in devastating form, unleashing a flurry of boundaries and keeping the pressure firmly on the Delhi bowlers. The highlight of the innings came in the 15th over, bowled by Australian speedster Mitchell Starc, who faced the full wrath of Buttler’s brilliance.

Buttler carved Starc for five consecutive boundaries in the over. He started with a lofted drive through extra cover, followed by a sliced four past backward point. A thick edge on the third ball flew to third man, and the fourth was driven past mid-off. The fifth, a short ball, was miscued but still raced away to the ropes. The over yielded 20 runs and marked a turning point in the chase.

This clinical chase marked GT’s sixth win of the season, propelling them past DC to take the top spot in the IPL 2025 points table. The victory highlighted Gujarat’s balanced performance and Buttler’s invaluable contribution as a match-winner.

The 35th match of IPL 2025 is currently underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, featuring an exciting clash between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Delhi Capitals (DC). After winning the toss, GT captain Shubman Gill opted to bowl first, hoping to capitalize on the pitch conditions. Meanwhile, DC made a notable change to their lineup, playing without Jake Fraser-McGurk.

As the match kicked off, the DC top-order came out swinging, determined to set a strong foundation. In the third over, with Mohammed Siraj bowling, KL Rahul and Karun Nair were at the crease for DC. On the third delivery, Siraj pitched the ball full and angled it towards Rahul, who elegantly cleared his front leg and lofted it over long-on for a massive six. The shot was a display of Rahul's exquisite timing and power-hitting, executed with finesse rather than brute force.

Siraj's first over proved costly, conceding 16 runs and putting early pressure on the GT bowlers. However, Arshad Khan managed to regain some control in the following over by dismissing Abishek Porel for 18 runs. Porel had already made his mark, hitting three boundaries and a six before his departure. The Karnataka duo of Rahul and Nair also fell shortly after making promising starts, but their efforts helped DC post an impressive 73 runs in the powerplay, despite losing a couple of wickets.

In a high-voltage encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Delhi Capitals made a bold move by excluding Jake Fraser-McGurk from their starting XI for Match 35 of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans. The decision comes after the explosive Australian batter struggled to make an impact in the tournament so far.

Delhi Capitals, riding high after a thrilling Super Over win against Rajasthan Royals, currently sit at the top of the table with five wins from six games. Their solid run has been a mix of strong leadership, clinical bowling, and key contributions from both experienced and young players. Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans are looking to bounce back after their four-match winning streak was halted by a defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants.

Changes in the Lineup

With Fraser-McGurk sidelined, Delhi has reshuffled their combination, bringing in a more balanced mix of local talent and seasoned names. In contrast, Gujarat have brought back experienced pacer Ishant Sharma, strengthening their bowling unit. The decision to bench Fraser-McGurk underlines Delhi’s push for consistency as they look to maintain momentum in the business end of the season.

Jaw-Dropping Moment in 17th Over

In today's super-exciting IPL clash between the Gujarat Titans and the Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, the world saw a great moment of brilliance from Jos Buttler that changed the whole game. While Prasidh Krishna's aggressive bowling was rewarded with a four-wicket haul, it was Buttler's brilliant catch behind the stumps to dismiss the young Delhi Capitals player Vipraj Nigam that really highlighted the excitement of the match.

Nigam, an exciting young leg-spin all-rounder, had shown moments of brilliance so far this season, and came in to bat for Delhi Capitals in some pressure situation, trying to build a partnership. He was certainly looking the part; however, things changed in unfortunate circumstances again, with Buttler taking a brilliant low catch. It must be noted, Buttler was not the 'official' wicketkeeper in this game for the Gujarat Titans; however he still was able to take advantage of that, and the match was in Ahmedabad.

Redemption Catch That Lit Up the Stadium

Prasidh Krishna's delivery was sharp as it slightly nipped away outside off-stump. Nigam, looking to guide it through the slips, only managed a faint edge. The ball appeared to be off to the boundary just past Buttler's glove in a right-side dive. But Buttler's extraordinary agility and hand-eye coordination allowed him to launch himself sideways and take the catch; his right wing seconded his whole frame as he dove and made his glove a palming platform of support for the ball.
