The Guyana Amazon Warriors outclassed the Rangpur Riders in style to win the 2025 edition of the Global Super League (GSL 2025). At the age of 46, South African spinner Imran Tahir did a splendid job in the final match by taking a couple of wickets, and as the captain of the team, he guided the Warriors to clinch the championship.

From the beginning of the tournament, Riders was one of the favorites to win the championship. Fulfilling the expectations, they reached the title decider stage. There they found the toughest hurdle of the tournament. To defeat Rangpur Riders, Warriors produced the highest total of the 2025 season of the title race, which was 196 for 4. Riders could only manage to get 164 on the scoreboard in reply.

In front of their cheerful home crowd, the Guyana Amazon Warriors lift off the trophy at Providence Stadium on Friday night. Apart from the main trophy, there were a few other awards as well to credit some individual performances. Like the man of the match award.

During the making of 66-run innings, Gurbaz smashed six 4s and four 6s, elevating the strike rate to 173.68.

Imran Tahir got the prestigious man of the tournament award for his inspiring bowling numbers. Throughout the tournament, the experienced spinner attracted 14 wickets, including a brace in the final.

History has been created in the second edition of the Global Super League (GSL) 2025. For the first time ever, the cricketing world got to witness a new title champion. The Guyana Amazon Warriors, under their veteran leader Imran Tahir, defied all odds and marched to their maiden GSL title win. The Warrior Nation was up against the defending champions, Rangpur Riders, who looked all set for a second consecutive title win.

But Tahir and his men outplayed the Bangladesh-based franchise and ruined their party in an epic final clash, beating them comprehensively by 32 runs. Playing at the Providence, the Warriors' home ground, the crowd rallied behind Tahir & Co. and backed them all the way through to bring the trophy home. Rahmanullah Gurbaz's electrifying 66 (38) powered the Guyana Amazon Warriors to an imposing 196-4.

The Rangpur Riders did not start their run chase on an auspicious note, losing their top three well inside the powerplay. Although Saif Hassan and Iftikhar Ahmed joined hands to forge a fighting 73-run stand, the Guyana bowlers were eventually able to overcome them and dismiss Rangpur Riders for 164. This win also marked the Warriors' first victory against the Riders in the short-lived history of GSL.

Imran Tahir & Co. celebrate GSL Title Win

The South African spin-bowling pro, Imran Tahir, has been a revelation for the Guyana-based CPL franchise. He previously led the Warrior Nation to their maiden CPL win in 2023. Then in 2024, his men came agonizingly close to securing two back-to-back title wins on the bounce but narrowly missed out in the final. Guyana Amazon Warriors' latest title win in the GSL certainly puts the icing on top of the cake. Tahir enjoys a glorious record as a Warriors' skipper, and his side's most recent triumph in the GSL final further demonstrates his tactical brilliance.

Even at age 46, Tahir continues to strive hard, be it as a bowler or as a captain. He rounded up the GSL 2025 season as the highest wicket-taker, claiming 14 wickets at a stunning average of 9.28. At a time when players do not think of exploring any forms of cricket after the age of 40, Tahir ages like a fine wine and continues to push on to bring his side endless success.

In Match 9 of the 2025 Global Super League (GSL), Guyana Amazon Warriors played against Hobart Hurricanes at the Providence stadium (Guyana). Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat first. Hobart Hurricanes, despite some middle-order contributions, were bowled out for just 125 runs in 16.1 overs. Guyana Amazon Warriors chased down the target with 4 wickets left in 3 overs, taking 16.3 overs to do so, and with a convincing performance with bat and ball.

Hobart Hurricanes Innings:

After batting first, the Hobart Hurricanes lost a couple of early wickets and could not build good partnerships. Fabian Allen provided a spark with 28 off 20 balls, while Nikhil Chaudhary and Mohammad Nabi added 21 runs each in brief stays. The team couldn’t gain momentum as wickets kept falling in quick succession. Gudakesh Motie was outstanding with figures of 3/9 in just 3.1 overs, breaking the backbone of Hobart’s innings. Moeen Ali and Imran Tahir also provided good support, taking two wickets each. Finally, the Hurricanes were bowled out for a humble 125 in 16.1 overs.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Innings:

In pursuit of 126, the Guyana Amazon Warriors started aggressively, with Shimron Hetmyer blazing away for a quick 39 off only 10 balls! Moeen Ali kept the innings together with a measured 30 off 36 balls. There were a few hiccups in the middle phase, but Gudakesh Motie found a useful 19 runs off 13 balls to finish off the chase. Billy Stanlake tried to rein things back in for Hobart with a fiery spell of 3/21 in 3.3 overs. Usama Mir contributed two wickets, but that was not enough to halt Guyana's juggernaut. The Warriors accumulated 128/6 in 16.3 overs to complete a 4-wicket victory and move to the top of the tournament table, with a superior net run rate. However, their opponents in Saturday’s final—defending champions Rangpur Riders—remain level on points with a game in hand.

In the 4th match of the 2025 Global Super League (GSL), Guyana Amazon Warriors played against Central Districts at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Central Districts won the toss and chose to bowl first. central stages struggled to contain Warriors' aggressive top order, failing in short in all aspects. Guyana Amazon Warriors delivered a commanding performance, securing a 66-run victory to get off the mark in the tournament.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Innings

Batting first, Guyana scored 158/6 after 20 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the wicketkeeper-batter, batted as the anchor on top, scoring 58 runs from 47 balls to set the tone at the top. He was supported well by Jewel Andrew, who scored 45 runs from 29 balls to shift the momentum in the middle overs, while Sherfane Rutherford chipped in with 16 runs as the Warriors built the pressure. Although the opposition bowled some disciplined spells, Guyana's top order did enough to ensure a competitive total. For Central Districts, Angus Schaw and Matthew Forde picked up two wickets each, while Blair Tickner remained economical with 1/25.

Central Districts Innings

In response, Central Districts were completely under pressure and bowled out for just 92 runs in 14.2 overs. Top scorer was Will Young with 26 off 29 balls, and Matthew Forde chipped in a short 24-run cameo, but nobody else contributed anything meaningful. The rest of the batting order did not provide any resistance as wickets fell quickly. Veteran spinner Imran Tahir led the destruction with 4/23, with Dwaine Pretorius (3/18) and David Wiese (2/13) backing him up in style. Central never recovered after the early blows and lost momentum entirely. It was a masterful bowling performance that wrapped up the match for Guyana with ease.

The 2025 Global Super League will be held in Guyana from July 10 to 18. All eleven matches will take place at the Providence Stadium. Five teams will take part in this year’s competition—the defending champions Rangpur Riders, Central Districts (New Zealand), Hobart Hurricanes (Australia), Guyana Amazon Warriors (West Indies), and Dubai Capitals (UAE).

The Guyana Amazon Warriors have officially announced their team for the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), looking to take that extra step after being runners-up the previous season. In their 2024 final, the Warriors missed out against the St. Lucia Kings, captained by Faf du Plessis. With renewed energy and strategic signings, they’re determined to make a strong comeback this year under an experienced core and promising new additions.

The CPL 2025 player draft was conducted on Wednesday, 18 June, where retained stars, overseas recruits, and breakout players were revealed. Presented by Alex Jordan with expert analysis from Daren Ganga and Nikhil Uttamchandani, the show brought out significant changes across teams. For the Amazon Warriors, overseas recruits like Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, Glenn Phillips, Dwaine Pretorius, and Hassan Khan strengthen an already strong list of players.

This season's CPL has a new twist—the last three rounds of the draft were reserved for West Indies Breakout League players. Every franchise will have at least one such new player in every game now. The 2025 season begins on 14 August and goes on until 21 September, with the grand final to be held in Guyana, giving the Amazon Warriors a possible home ground.
