During the 28th fixture of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, the Barbados Royals locked horns with the Trinbago Knight Riders for their last home clash at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The home captain, Rovman Powell, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a slow and low surface.

Royals made two changes to the playing eleven as Shaqkere Parris came into the opening position, along with Zishan Motara, into the side. On the other hand, Knight Riders also made two changes to the team as Joshua Da Silva, the wicket-keeper batter, replaced Darren Bravo, and Saurabh Netravalkar came in place of Nathan Edwards.

Trinbago Knight Riders struggle their way to 166/8

The top order of the Trinbago side struggled immensely in the first eight overs as their captain, Nicholas Pooran, the number four batter, also smashed just 45 runs in 44 deliveries at a strike rate of 102.27 with the help of three boundaries and one six. Kieron Pollard, who had been in incredible form this season, drilled a decent knock off 36 runs in 25 balls at a strike rate of 144.

After 18 overs, with the dismissal of Andre Russell, they were 135/6 on the board. That was when Akeal Hossein, the left-handed batter, clubbed an unbeaten knock of 23 runs in six balls with three sixes and one boundary to shoulder them to 166/8 in their allotted 20 overs of the first innings.

Barbados Royals complete chase by seven wickets in 19 overs

The 87-run partnership for the opening wicket between the wicket-keeper opening batter, Quinton de Kock, and Kadeem Alleyene, laid a good platform for the chase in the second innings. The South African batter nailed 55 runs in 35 balls with the help of three boundaries and as many sixes. But they still found themselves under pressure.

That was when Sherfane Rutherford and captain Powell stood up with an unbeaten stand of 56 runs for the fourth wicket to complete the chase by seven wickets and six balls to spare.
