India pulled off a nail-biting 6-run win over England in the final Test at The Oval, ending the series in style. The last morning was full of tension, nerves and brilliant fast bowling that turned the game India’s way after Joe Root and Harry Brook’s hundreds had put England in control on Day 4.

England started the day needing just 35 runs, and Prasidh Krishna was hit for two boundaries straight away. But then Mohammed Siraj stepped up. He got Jamie Smith caught behind with a perfect delivery, and almost dismissed Gus Atkinson the very next ball. In his next over, he trapped Jamie Overton LBW, with the decision staying as umpire’s call.

Prasidh came back and nearly got Josh Tongue out LBW, but the review saved him. A couple of overs later, he bowled Tongue with a beauty. England were nine wickets down, still needing 11 runs. Chris Woakes, batting left-handed with one hand because of a shoulder injury, tried to fight on. Atkinson hit Siraj for a six but couldn’t survive much longer. Siraj bowled him clean, and the celebrations began.

Siraj finished with five wickets, including three on the final morning. “We just kept believing,” he said. “This team never backs down.” Once again, India showed the heart and fight of champions.

<![CDATA[ENG vs IND: Joe Root Brings Up 39th Test Ton, Proves He’s the GOAT of the Modern Era]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/eng-vs-ind-joe-root-brings-up-39th-test-ton-proves-he-s-the-goat-of-the-modern-era/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/eng-vs-ind-joe-root-brings-up-39th-test-ton-proves-he-s-the-goat-of-the-modern-era/ Sun, 03 Aug 2025 22:15:46 GMT

Joe Root played another brilliant innings, scoring his 39th Test hundred and proving once again why he’s one of the best in the modern game. On Day 4 of the fifth and final Test against India at The Oval, he reached the milestone in 137 balls, guiding England closer to a big series win.

It was a special moment. With “Rooooooot” echoing around the ground, the 34‑year‑old tucked the ball towards long leg, ran two, lifted his bat to the dressing room, then pulled out a headband and pointed to the sky in tribute to Graham Thorpe.

His proud parents stood in the stands, applauding their son. This was Root’s 13th hundred against India the most by any batter going past Steve Smith’s 11. He also overtook Kumar Sangakkara’s tally of 38 Test centuries, now standing behind only Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45), and Ricky Ponting (41). Root also became the first player to score more than 6,000 runs in the World Test Championship. In his 69 WTC matches, he has 21 hundreds and 23 fifties, showing unmatched consistency.

Chasing 374 to win the series 3‑1, Root took charge after Harry Brook’s quick 111. He reached his fifty with a neat push to deep backward square leg and kept finding the gaps, frustrating India’s bowlers. His calm approach and smart batting kept England in control. His hundred put him level with Sunil Gavaskar for most Test hundreds against one team (13), with only Don Bradman’s 19 against England ahead. In all formats, it was his 16th century against India, matching Steve Smith.

Root’s knock also added to the record for most hundreds in a five‑Test series 21 in total equalling the 1955 Australia vs West Indies series. It was not just another century; it showed once again his ability to shine in big moments and take the game away from the opposition. He finally fell to Prasidh Krishna for 105 in the last ball of the 73rd over, but by then, England were well on their way to sealing the series.

Harry Brook made the most of a lucky escape to score his first fourth‑innings hundred on Sunday, August 3, in the 5th and final Test of the Anderson‑Tendulkar Trophy. The world’s No. 1 Test batter played a fearless knock, reaching his century in just 91 balls and putting England in a strong position while chasing 374 against India.

It was Brook’s 10th Test hundred, coming in only his 50th innings, making him the second‑highest century‑maker in Test cricket since 2022, just behind Joe Root’s 15. But things could have been very different. On 19, Brook mistimed a pull shot off Prasidh Krishna straight to Mohammed Siraj at deep fine leg. Siraj caught the ball but stepped back onto the boundary rope, turning what could have been a wicket into six runs.

That moment seemed to spark Brook into action. In the same over, he smashed 18 runs and never looked back. Batting alongside Joe Root, England’s top run‑scorer, Brook kept attacking and made sure the Indian bowlers were under constant pressure.

The pair put together a brilliant 195‑run partnership for the fourth wicket, slowly taking the game away from India. Brook’s innings finally came to an end just before Tea when he hit one to Siraj at mid‑off off Akash Deep, scoring 111 from only 90 balls. By the time he walked off, England needed less than 100 runs, and his blistering knock had set the perfect stage for a memorable chase.

<![CDATA[ENG vs IND: Ravindra Jadeja Hits Crucial Fifty in 5th Test at The Oval]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/eng-vs-ind-ravindra-jadeja-hits-crucial-fifty-in-5th-test-at-the-oval/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/eng-vs-ind-ravindra-jadeja-hits-crucial-fifty-in-5th-test-at-the-oval/ Sat, 02 Aug 2025 22:17:17 GMT

Ravindra Jadeja is showing no signs of slowing down. While teammates Rohit Sharm and Virat Kohli have retired from Test cricket after a dip in form, Jadeja is enjoying one of the best batting runs of his career. Once known mainly as a bowling all‑rounder, he has now proved himself as a complete batter.

His latest fifty at The Oval is his fifth of the England tour, along with a fine hundred. This makes him the first Indian to score over 500 runs in a Test series while batting at No.6 or lower. He has scored runs in almost every match, missing a fifty only once at Leeds where he was still unbeaten on 25.

At Edgbaston and Lord’s, he made twin fifties, at Old Trafford he hit a century, and now he ends the tour with another important half‑century. Coming in at 229/5 in the final Test, Jadeja steadied the innings and then played his shots. On a tough second‑innings pitch, he once again proved why he’s been India’s most reliable player this series.

Team India’s batting line-up Creacted a remarkable performance in the ongoing Test series against England. They scored 300 runs or more in an innings eight times, matching the record for the most 300+ totals in a single Test series in cricket history.

This is the first time since 1993 that a visiting team has scored to post seven or more 300+ scores in a bilateral Test series in England. India went one step further to make it eight, joining an elite list of teams to achieve this milestone.

The series saw great contributions from all players. Shubman Gill led the way with four centuries, including a superb double hundred. KL Rahul was solid at the top, scoring over 500 runs in the series. Ravindra Jadeja also made history by becoming the first Indian batting at No. 6 or lower to score more than 500 runs in this Test series.

Scoring consistently over 300 runs in every innings showed India’s depth and resilience in this young team. Against tough English conditions and quality bowling, this batting display will be remembered as one of India’s best overseas Test series performances.

<![CDATA[Weather Report: England vs India 5th Test]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/uncategorized/weather-report-england-vs-india-5th-test/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/uncategorized/weather-report-england-vs-india-5th-test/ Thu, 31 Jul 2025 11:57:08 GMT

After drawing the last Test against England, India would like to win the fifth Test and level the series 2-2. They have a good shot at this prospect as England will enter the fifth Test with some major changes to their playing XI from the Manchester Test. One such would be losing out on the services of their captain Ben Stokes, who is nursing a shoulder injury.

On the other hand, when in England, weather plays a crucial role and so does the bowlers. Indian bowlers are succumbing to injuries but they look formidable when compared to the tweaked England XI. Speaking of the weather, the weather will be cloudy and one can expect showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. The temperature will be as high as 23 degree celsius and can fluctuate with timely showers.

Pitch report

The pitch is covered with ample grass and green tinge is visible from the far look. This will make the role of bowlers even more crucial as both the teams rely heavily on their pace battery. The team winning the toss will likely to choose bowl first and take the early advantage going into the game.

After the late-night drama in Manchester on July 27, the series now moves to London. The final and fifth Test will be played at the historic Kennington Oval. England are leading the series 2-1, and will be aiming to win it, while India will fight hard to draw the series and end things on equal terms.

India haven’t had the best results at The Oval in Test cricket. They’ve played 17 matches here won only 2, lost 6, and drawn 9. Out of these, 16 matches were against England and one was the World Test Championship final against Australia in 2023.

India’s first win at The Oval came way back in 1971, which was a historic moment. Their second win at the venue was more recent, in 2021. But if we look at their last six games at this ground, India have lost four of them, which shows the challenge ahead.

India will also be missing some key players in this match. Rishabh Pant has been ruled out due to a toe injury. There is also doubt over Jasprit Bumrah’s availability. He was expected to play only three Tests in the series, and he’s already played those. So, the team management now has to decide whether to risk him in this final game. With the series result on the line and some players unavailable, India will need to bring their best game to draw the series.

Just two days before the final and deciding Test between India and England, things turned tense at The Oval. India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir got into a heated argument with the pitch curator, Lee Fortis, on Tuesday afternoon.

As reported by Times of India, the discussion started politely but quickly became aggressive.
Gambhir, unhappy with the pitch or the arrangements, seemed frustrated and was seen pointing fingers during the exchange. At one point, he reportedly said, “You don't tell us what to do.”

The situation got so intense that India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had to step in and calm things down.
After the clash, Lee Fortis and the ground staff threatened to file an official complaint against Gambhir’s behaviour.

But Gambhir didn’t back down. He replied, “You can go and report to whoever you want, but you can't tell us what to do.” It's still unclear what exactly caused the argument.
The Indian team’s security head was called in, and Kotak was later seen talking to the Surrey media manager to explain what happened. A press conference is expected later in the day, which might provide more details.

England currently lead the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-1, and India are hoping to level the series after their brave draw in Manchester.
After the fourth Test, Gambhir had praised his team. “They want to fight for the common man back home,” he said. “A lot of people had written us off, but this team showed great spirit.” “These players in the dressing room are fighters. They’ll keep giving everything for the country,” he added.

India showed great fight and spirit on the final day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford to stop England from winning. Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Shubman Gill scored brilliant centuries, while KL Rahul played a steady knock of 90 runs. Their efforts helped India save the match and avoid defeat.

Shubman Gill started the day with a calm and confident hundred. KL Rahul supported him well with a valuable 90. But the key moment came when Jadeja and Sundar came together. Both batted with great patience and didn’t let the England bowlers take control. Jadeja stayed not out on 107, once again showing how important he is to the team.

Washington Sundar, who came in to bat at number 5, played one of the best innings of his career. He took his time, stayed focused, and reached his first-ever Test century in the last over of the day. He scored 101 runs from 206 balls. As soon as Sundar completed his century, both teams shook hands and ended the match in a draw.

There was some confusion after the game, as some thought India had taken a 3-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. But the official series score stands at 2-1 in England’s favour after this drawn Test. Still, India’s strong performance on the last day won the hearts of fans and has set up a thrilling end to the series.

Ravindra Jadeja showed his class once again in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Manchester. On the last day of the match, he scored a brilliant century his fifth in Test cricket and helped India avoid defeat. He got solid support from Washington Sundar, who also hit his first-ever Test hundred.

Jadeja played a calm and steady innings, hitting 12 fours and one six in 182 balls. It was a special knock from the Saurashtra all-rounder, who had earlier come close to winning the Lord’s Test for India but fell just short by 22 runs.

Both Jadeja and Sundar showed great fight and focus. They batted through a tiring England bowling attack and gave India a chance to save the match. By the tea break, India were 322 for 4 after adding 99 runs without losing a wicket in the second session.

England’s Ben Stokes, who was dangerous in the morning, lost his rhythm later. In one over, he gave away 15 runs as Sundar hit him for a four and a six to reach his fifty. Soon after, Jadeja also completed his half-century with a classy cut shot. The duo’s strong stand made sure India walked away with a draw.
