Australia Women suffered a big setback in the 13th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 when their star all-rounder Ellyse Perry walked off the field due to a hamstring injury. Perry was batting at 32 off 40 balls when she overextended on a front-foot drive and immediately signalled for the team physio. After assessment, she left the field, showing visible discomfort, leaving a gap in Australia’s middle order.

Earlier, India Women posted a strong total of 330 runs. Openers Pratika Rawal (75) and Smriti Mandhana (80) had put on a 155-run opening partnership that gave India a strong foundation. Harleen Deol (38) and Jemimah Rodrigues (33) then added crucial runs later, enabling India to post a challenging target. Australia began their chase in good style with an 85-run opening stand between Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfield before Dee Perry's injury altered the momentum.

Perry’s injury sent shockwaves through the Australian camp, especially given her recent fitness struggles. Earlier this year, during a bilateral series in India, the 33-year-old had also retired hurt due to a calf issue. Captain Alyssa Healy had previously downplayed those concerns, calling them minor, but Perry’s latest setback has reignited worries over her fitness ahead of crucial World Cup fixtures.

Perry’s Absence Hurts Australia’s Momentum

After Perry left the field, Australia struggled in the middle order. Despite Alyssa Healy scoring a century, wickets fell quickly at the other end. Beth Mooney went for 4 and Annabel Sutherland went for 0, making things tough for the chase.

At the end of the 31st over, Australia were 202/3, needing 129 more runs to chase down India. Perry's absence could have a big impact on Australia's chances of doing well in this match and at the Women's World Cup 2025 overall, as the team would miss her experience and skill in the middle order.

Afghanistan faced a blow in their ODI series against Bangladesh after star batter Rahmat Shah suffered a calf injury during the second match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, October 11. The experienced player is now set to miss the third and final ODI on October 14. Despite the setback, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by 81 runs in a low-scoring contest. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side posted 190 runs in 44.5 overs before dismissing Bangladesh for 109 to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Rahmat Shah’s injury occurred while he was attempting a quick single in the 15th over. He immediately showed signs of pain and was unable to walk properly. The right-hander retired hurt and was later seen being taken off the field in a wheelchair. In a brave move, Rahmat returned to bat when Afghanistan were nine wickets down for 189, but his comeback lasted just one ball.

Rishad Hossain bowled a googly that struck Rahmat on the abdomen, and he collapsed in visible pain. Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Afghanistan’s physio, Nirmalan Thanabalasingam, rushed to help before Rahmat was carried off the field again in a wheelchair. The injury left fans concerned about his condition and Afghanistan’s plans for the final ODI.

Physio Confirms Serious Injury

Team physio Nirmalan Thanabalasingam later confirmed that Rahmat Shah’s injury was serious and that he would be sidelined for some time. "He (Rahmat) unfortunately succumbed to his injury, so he is out now. We will do all the right things in terms of imaging and stuff tomorrow. He is going to be out for some time, I think," Thanabalasingam said, according to Cricbuzz.

Rahmat recently became the first Afghan batter to surpass 4,000 ODI runs and played a vital half-century in the series opener. His absence will be a major setback for Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan’s brilliant five-wicket haul and Azmatullah’s early breakthroughs sealed Afghanistan’s win as Bangladesh were bowled out for just 109 runs in 28.3 overs.

<![CDATA[Big setback for Team India as vice-captain suffers injury scare ahead of Asia Cup 2025 clash against Pakistan]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/big-setback-for-team-india-as-vice-captain-suffers-injury-scare-ahead-of-asia-cup-2025-clash-against-pakistan/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/big-setback-for-team-india-as-vice-captain-suffers-injury-scare-ahead-of-asia-cup-2025-clash-against-pakistan/ Sun, 14 Sep 2025 07:58:03 GMT

In a concerning development for Team India, star batter and vice-captain Shubman Gill suffered an injury scare during training ahead of the high-voltage Asia Cup 2025 clash against Pakistan on September 14. With the Men in Blue preparing for their second game of the tournament, a blow to Gill raised worries within the camp.

According to The Times of India, Gill was struck on the hand during a practice session and was immediately in visible discomfort. Physios rushed to attend to him, and the batter eventually walked off the ground, raising panic among teammates and fans alike.

The right-hander was later seen with an ice pack on his hand, but much to India’s relief, Gill recovered quickly and returned to the nets. Although not feeling completely comfortable, he resumed batting practice, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir checking on him during the session.

Gill’s Importance at the Top of the Order

Despite the brief scare, Gill is fit and available to feature against Pakistan on September 14. Before the tournament, there were debates about his selection, as he hadn't played a T20I since July 2024, but the management had still sought to back him to open the batting with Abhishek Sharma.

Gill looked in good touch in India’s opening match against the UAE, where he provided a steady start in the run chase. His presence will be vital against Pakistan, a team he has performed well against, scoring 130 runs in four matches at an average of 32.50, including a half-century.

Prithvi Shaw Says His Life Feels Like Jethalal's

When Prithvi Shaw started playing for India, people thought he would become the next Sachin Tendulkar. He made a great Test debut in 2018 against the West Indies, and fans were excited about his future.

But things didn’t go smoothly. After some bad performances, he was dropped from the team. He also had personal problems and was removed from the Mumbai team too.

Shaw played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL for a few years, but before the last big auction, the team let him go. Sadly, no one picked him, and Shaw later said that he even went into depression. In a recent interview, Shaw said his life feels like Jethalal, a character from the TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Jethalal is always caught in problems whether it’s with his dad or his neighbours, trouble keeps following him.

Shaw feels the same. “Even when I try to live peacefully, something always goes wrong,” he said. In 2019, Shaw was banned for 8 months after a banned substance was found in his body. He said it came from a regular cough syrup, but the rules were strict, and he missed many matches.

Then in 2023, he got into a fight at a nightclub in Mumbai. A social media influencer, Sapna Gill, accused him of hitting her after he refused to take a selfie. Her group even attacked Shaw’s car with a bat. The case went to the police and spread all over the news. Even with all this, Shaw is trying to make a comeback. He still believes in himself and hopes things will get better.

<![CDATA[India batter faces injury scare ahead of first Test against England: Know the reason]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/india-batter-faces-injury-scare-ahead-of-first-test-against-england-know-the-reason/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/india-batter-faces-injury-scare-ahead-of-first-test-against-england-know-the-reason/ Thu, 19 Jun 2025 12:01:06 GMT

India's Karun Nair endured a worrying moment in the nets ahead of the first Test match against England, which starts this Friday. The right-handed batsman was struck on the ribs by a quick one from pacer Prasidh Krishna after shying away from a defensive stroke. Despite being clearly uncomfortable, Nair was able to continue his practice session shortly after the incident, allaying fears about his fitness.

This Test is a big moment for Nair, who is likely to be included in India's playing XI for the first time since 2017. The Karnataka batsman, who infamously made a triple century against England in 2016, had been out of favor with the selectors for quite some years. But a consistent run in domestic cricket got him back in the reckoning, and now he has a golden opportunity to stake his claim in international cricket once again.

Meanwhile, England announced their playing XI for the opening Test with notable changes. Chris Woakes, back from an ankle injury, has replaced Sam Cook on the team. Brydon Carse has also been added, replacing Gus Atkinson, who is unavailable due to a hamstring injury. These changes are made in a bid to strengthen England's all-around potency and fast-bowling options.

England Go for Experience Over Youth in Batting Lineup

Woakes' comeback provides England's lower order with extra depth, playing at No. 8, while permitting Jamie Smith to bat at No. 7 as a specialist wicketkeeper-batter. Ollie Pope has been chosen ahead of 21-year-old Jacob Bethell at No. 3, indicating that England is banking on experienced hands even though Pope's figures against India and Australia have been subpar.

Pope, who had last scored 171 against Zimbabwe, has a low average of 22.05 in Tests against top teams, but his average of 35.49 places him in the running. Bethell, promising as he has been with three fifties in three games, will have to wait for his turn. England's lineup is indicative of a strategy in favor of stability and depth for the opening high-stakes game.
