On the 30th encounter of The Hundred 2025, the Northern Superchargers met the Manchester Originals at Leeds in Headingley. The visiting captain, Phil Salt, won the toss and decided to bowl first on the surface where they expected the batting to be easy in the second innings.

The tourists made three changes in the side, having already been eliminated from the group stage of the tournament. Sir James Anderson, George Garton, and Thomas Aspinwall came into the playing eleven, with Matthew Hurst, Tom Hartley, and Sonny Baker getting out of the side. On the other hand, Superchargers remained unchanged.

Northern Superchargers struggle their way to 139/8

Anderson picked up the first couple of wickets of Dawid Malan and Dan Lawrence. Zak Crawley and captain Harry Brook smashed run-a-ball knocks to find themselves 73/5 in their 67 deliveries and looked in danger of getting bundled out cheaply. David Miller cracked 30 runs in 22 balls with three sixes.

Samit Patel clubbed 42 runs in just 19 balls at a strike rate of 221.05, shouldering on four boundaries and three sixes as the Superchargers posted 139/8 in their allotted 100 deliveries. Aspinwall picked up three wickets in the first innings while Josh Tongue and James Anderson shared four wickets between them.

Manchester Originals make successful chase by seven wickets

Manchester experienced an abysmal start to the second innings during the chase, losing Salt for nine runs in 13 balls while Ben McKinney got six runs in eight. However, Jos Buttler and Rachin put up a 99-run stand for the third wicket to push them incredibly near the finishing line.

Wicket-keeper batter, Jos Buttler, cracked an excellent knock of 70 runs in 37 balls, with the help of seven boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of nearly 200. Ravindra, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 47 runs in 23 balls to complete the chase by seven wickets and 16 balls to spare.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why Manchester Originals Men lost to Birmingham Phoenix Men in the Hundred 2025 match 28]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-manchester-originals-men-lost-to-birmingham-phoenix-men-in-the-hundred-2025-match-28/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-manchester-originals-men-lost-to-birmingham-phoenix-men-in-the-hundred-2025-match-28/ Mon, 25 Aug 2025 06:43:17 GMT

In Match 28 of the Hundred 2025, Manchester Originals Men posted 109/7 in 100 balls, with Heinrich Klaasen (34 off 35) and Phil Salt (31 off 20) being the only batters to cross 30. Rachin Ravindra chipped in with 13 off 7 but no one else supported. Birmingham Phoenix comfortably chased it down with 113/3 in 83 balls, powered by Joe Clarke’s 40 (21) and Ben Duckett’s unbeaten 49 (38), sealing a 7-wicket victory. Below are the main reasons for Manchester Originals Men defeat

1. Batting Struggles and Lack of Partnerships

Phil Salt made a bright start with 31 off 20, while Klaasen valiantly attempted to push the score along for 34 off 35, but the rest of the batting order's failure to support meant that partnerships couldn't develop and a deficit was left far short of a defendable total.

2. Phoenix’s Dominant Top Order

Birmingham Phoenix’s top order made the chase look easy. Joe Clarke’s explosive 40 off 21 set the tone, while Duckett anchored the innings with 49* off 38. Their batting dominance erased any hopes for the Originals to apply pressure.

3. Originals’ Bowling Lacked Bite

Even with some early breakthroughs, Originals couldn't tighten things up at the back end. Their bowlers lacked accuracy and variation, allowing Phoenix to cruise. There was also little option to create pressure late in the innings, as it was another one-sided finish.

On the 28th fixture of The Hundred 2025, Manchester Originals met Birmingham Phoenix at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. The home captain, Phil Salt, won the toss and decided to bat first on a dry surface.

Manchester decided to leave out Lewis Gregory from the playing eleven, with Ish Sodhi and Tom Hartley coming into the side. On the flip side of the coin, Birmingham brought back Dan Mousley and Liam Patterson-White while Louis Kimber and Tim Southee took a rest from the successive games.

Manchester Originals post 109/7 in first innings

The captain of the Originals, Phil Salt, smashed 31 runs in 20 balls at a strike rate of 155, shouldering on two boundaries and three sixes. Their middle order couldn’t bat well, while Heinrich Klassen smashed 34 runs in 35 balls at a strike rate of less than 100, thanks to two boundaries and one six.

Their lower order didn’t contribute much with the bat as they could post only 109 runs on the board in their allotted 100 balls for the loss of seven wickets.

Birmingham Phoenix chase down target by seven wickets

The left-handed opening batter, Ben Duckett, remained unbeaten in the second innings during the chase with 49 runs in 38 balls at a strike rate of 128.95, scoring five boundaries and two over boundaries.

The number three batter of the batting department, the wicket-keeper batter, Joe Clarke, smashed 40 runs in 21 deliveries at a strike rate of over 190, with the help of four boundaries and two sixes as they chased down the score by seven wickets in hand with 17 balls to spare.

In the 20th match of The Hundred 2025 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, Trent Rockets captain David Willey won the toss and chose to bowl first on a slow pitch. The Rockets played with the same team, while Manchester Originals made three changes, bringing in George Linde, Sam Hain, and Sam Cook. Manchester had a rough start. Opener McKinney got out for a duck in just two balls. Jos Buttler scored 19 from 16 balls and captain Phil Salt added 19, but no one stayed long enough to build the innings. Rachin Ravindra also fell for a golden duck.

The only good knock came from Lewis Gregory, who remained not out on 33 from 21 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes. The Rockets’ bowlers were on top, with Willey taking three wickets, while Rehan Ahmed and Sam Cook took two each. Manchester could only reach 98/8 in their 100 balls.

Chasing 99, the Rockets also lost quick wickets. Tom Banton made 11, and Joe Root managed just 4 runs. But then Rehan Ahmed changed the game with smart hitting. He scored an unbeaten 45 from 35 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. Tom Moores also played some good aggresive shots to speed up the chase. Together, they guided the Rockets home in style, winning by 7 wickets with 26 balls left.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] Phil Salt pulls off a stunner to dismiss Max Holden of Trent Rockets in The Hundred]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-phil-salt-pulls-off-a-stunner-to-dismiss-max-holden-of-trent-rockets-in-the-hundred/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-phil-salt-pulls-off-a-stunner-to-dismiss-max-holden-of-trent-rockets-in-the-hundred/ Wed, 20 Aug 2025 09:41:42 GMT

A disappointing outing for the Manchester Originals ended on a rather bright note when Phil Salt stole the show with his extraordinary brilliance in the field. During the second innings, the Trent Rockets were hardly fazed as they were only tasked with chasing down a meager target of 99 in less than a run-a-ball. But Salt gave the Originals something to cheer about during the 48th ball of the run chase.

Josh Tongue ran in to deliver a fairly pitched-up delivery outside off. The concerned batter at the other end was Trent Rockets' Max Holden. He attempted an uppish drive in a bid to clear the infield. But much to his despair, Salt, who was standing at midoff, left Holden stunned with a breathtaking one-handed catch.

Salt had to cover some good ground to his right. As the ball seemed to curl through the air, the T20 batting icon made a timely jump and flew to his right to stick his right hand out for the catch. Unbelievable as it may sound, the ball settled straight into his right hand, and upon impact with the ground, Salt did spectacularly well to retain control of the ball by making sure that his hands remained underneath.

Watch the catch:

Salt's mind-boggling effort on the field helped him earn some quick praise from the on-air commentator Simon O'Doull, who was present at the time when the spectacular catch was taken. Subsequently, his teammates also went to him and surrounded him in joy to celebrate the momentous occasion. But sadly, his out-of-the-world catch wasn't going to be enough to deter the Trent Rockets. Despite losing Holden at a critical time of the run chase, the Rockets remained firmly in control of the match.

His dismissal brought Tom Moores to the crease. He joined hands with Rehan Ahmed, and the duo managed to muster a handy unbeaten 40-run partnership to take Trent Rockets over the line by seven wickets and 26 balls to spare. David Willey was the standout bowler for Trent Rockets from the first innings and was awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) for bagging impressive figures of 3-11.

During the 20th clash of The Hundred 2025, Trent Rockets and Manchester Originals face off at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The home side captain, David Willer, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a slow and low surface.

The hosts went with the same playing eleven. On the other hand, Manchester made three huge chances in the team. George Linde, Sam Hain, and Sam Cook were included in the playing eleven as Cavin Harrison and Callum Parkinson were removed from the team.

Manchester Originals struggle their way to 98/8

On the fourth delivery of the first innings, Manchester lost their opening batter McKinney for a two-ball duck. Jos Buttler, the wicket-keeper batter, at number three, ended with 19 runs in 16 balls while Rachin Ravindra returned for a golden duck. None of the batters were able to get the flow and rhythm for a huge score.

Lewis Gregory remained unbeaten on 33 runs in just 21 balls at a strike rate of 157.14, shouldering on two boundaries and two sixes. The next best score of the table was two 19s from the captain, Phil Salt, and Buttler. David Willey picked up three wickets while Rehan Ahmed and Sam Cook each picked up two wickets to get Manchester to 98/8 in the first innings.

Trent Bridge complete easy chase by seven wickets

The home side didn’t make a good start either in the chase. Tom Banton returned for 11 runs in 10 balls, while the veteran Joe Root also got just four runs in six balls. Sonny Baker was excellent in terms of pace and line length. Rehan Ahmed, suddenly, started to nail the big shots around the park, which released the pressure.

The wicket-keeper batter, Tom Moores, didn't waste much time before playing the big shots. Ahmed had nearly ended with 39 runs in 30 balls at a strike rate of 130 as he punched four boundaries and two sixes, but it proved to be a no-ball. Moores continued the big shots from the other end, as Trent Bridge completed the chase by seven wickets in hand with 26 balls to spare. Rehan remained unbeaten on 45 runs in 35 balls with five fours and two sixes.

During the 17th encounter of The Hundred 2025, Manchester Originals met Northern Superchargers during the 17th fixture at Old Trafford in Manchester. The home side won the toss and decided to bat first to break the normal trend of teams chasing a total.

The Phil Salt-led side made two changes to the playing eleven. Matthew Hurst came into the eleven along with Rachin Ravindra, the southpaw who replaced Mark Chapman in the eleven post finishing the international Test assignment in Zimbabwe. Superchargers, however, retained the same playing eleven.

Manchester Originals burst their way to 171/3

Captain Salt went back to the dressing room after just nine runs in five balls, while McKinney also struggled for his 11 runs. The wicket-keeper batter, Jos Buttler, drilled an unbeaten knock of 64 runs in 45 balls at a strike rate of 142.22, scoring five boundaries and four sixes.

On the other hand, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue picked up three wickets each. Rachin Ravindra and Noor Ahmed also recorded two wickets each in the second innings as the Superchargers ended with 114 runs in the second innings to face a 57-run defeat.

The Manchester Originals Men were defeated by the Welsh Fire Men by 25 runs in Match 12 of The Hundred 2025 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. The chase was well and truly alive as Jos Buttler raced to 57 off 34 balls until he was dismissed, triggering an extraordinary collapse. The Welsh Fire bowlers, especially Riley Meredith, Chris Green, and David Payne, were clinical and timely with their wicket-taking. Beforehand, the Fire were able to put together a defendable score of 138 to take their first win of the season. Here are the main reasons why Manchester Originals Lost the match:

1. Lethal Bowling by Welsh Fire

Riley Meredith tore through the top order with a blistering 4 for 9, removing some key batters. Chris Green (3 for 19) and David Payne (3 for 28) kept the pressure on by picking their wickets at important moments of the innings, e.g., Buttler’s wicket, thus stopping the run chase.

2. Catastrophic Batting Collapse

Following Buttler's departure, the Originals lost six wickets for just nine runs to collapse from a position of dominance and were all out in less than 20 overs. The loss of energy was so sudden that no comeback was possible.

3. Balanced All-Round Display by Welsh Fire

Contributions from Tom Kohler-Cadmore (26 off 16) and Steve Smith (26 off 22) set a solid platform, while Chris Green’s quickfire late cameo boosted the total. The combined batting effort, along with good and clinical bowling when required, meant Fire was ahead throughout.
