During the 27th fixture of The Hundred 2025 between Welsh Fire and Trent Rockets, the encounter took place at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The away captain, David Willey, won the toss and opted to bowl first on a surface that was expected to improve for batting in the second innings.

Fire left out Ajeet Dale from the playing eleven as Josh Hull came into the squad. Ben Sanderson gets out of the eleven with Lockie Ferguson coming into the playing eleven.

Welsh Fire push their way to 150/6

Stevie Eskinazi smashed 53 runs in 42 balls at a strike rate of 126.19, shouldering five boundaries and two over boundaries. Steve Smith and Jonny Bairstow struggled for eight runs in the second and third positions in the batting order, while Tom Abell, the leader of the side, drilled a fine knock of 48 runs.

Abell got the 48 runs with the help of five boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 165.52. Chris Green drilled an unbeaten 11 runs in four balls with the help of two boundaries. They posted 150/6 in their allotted 100 balls in the first innings.

Sam Cook bagged two wickets with the ball while Marcus Stoinis, Ferguson, and Willey picked one wicket each.

Joe Root shoulders Trent Rockets to 152/7

Tom Banton and Joe Root laid a fine platform with 66 66-run opening stand in just 33 balls. The former drilled 32 runs in 20 balls with the help of four boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 160, while Root remained unbeaten on 64 runs in 41 balls at a strike rate of 156.1, with the help of four boundaries and three sixes.

Their middle order couldn’t contribute much with the bat. From 88/1, they soon found themselves 131/5 in 88 balls. However, they somehow chased down the score by three wickets on the penultimate delivery.
