In a feel-good moment that melted the hearts of cricket fans, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were seen sharing a wholesome exchange following the high-pressure match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025. The scene was filmed as the match had just ended, and cameras caught Rahul and Rohit embracing one another and laughing, standing next to the boundary line.

This camaraderie came after MI claimed a convincing 59-run victory against the DC side, putting MI safely in the IPL 2025 playoffs. This turnaround for MI is notable because the last IPL season was tough for them, but with a new captain and tactics, their recovery has been impressive. Meanwhile, DC has been eliminated from playoff contention. Despite the results, KL Rahul's light-hearted interaction with Rohit Sharma serves as a reminder of the respect and friendship that exists above that of team boundaries.

As the veteran of MI to KL Rahul, both have played significant time together on the national team. Their relationship was clearly evident and gave the fans an opportunity to connect in a real way in the midst of the profession's real pressure of professional cricket.

Cricket Rivalry, Mutual Respect

Even though the nature of the competition can be fierce, these moments highlight the more important values in cricket. The post-match interaction between Rohit and Rahul highlighted one of the greatest values in sports - especially cricket - of before & after competitors share as respect and friendship. It didn't matter who won the match; it only mattered that they shared a moment, respect, and a friendship.

<![CDATA['Umpire Indians' trend on social media as fans criticize umpiring blunders in MI vs DC game in IPL 2025]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/umpire-indians-trend-on-social-media-as-fans-criticize-umpiring-blunders-in-mi-vs-dc-game-in-ipl-2025/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/umpire-indians-trend-on-social-media-as-fans-criticize-umpiring-blunders-in-mi-vs-dc-game-in-ipl-2025/ Thu, 22 May 2025 00:32:50 GMT

In the wake of Match 63 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025, the phrase “Umpire Indians” began trending on social media, as frustrated fans and analysts blamed a series of poor umpiring decisions for being a huge factor in the game. Although MI secured a great victory by 59 runs at Wankhede Stadium, the focus was more on the poor decisions that haunted the match. Among the discussion circulating among fans was the main sentiment that Delhi Capitals were victims of poor officiating.

Two specific decisions stood out among many that night. The first was in the 13th over of DC's chase when Vipraj lofted a shot that clearly sailed over the boundary ropes yet was signaled a four by the on-field umpire. Frustrated players and fans of DC were bewildered that no TV umpire review was called. Television replays, which suggested that the ball comfortably cleared the boundary, killed DC’s momentum just when they needed a boost.

The second questionable decision happened when Vipraj was dismissed off a delivery from Mitchell Santner that appeared to be a clear no-ball for overstepping. While Santner's foot was clearly over the line from the original camera angles shown to broadcasters, the on-field umpires chose not to refer to it as a no-ball. All this was further compounded by the fashionable disbelief of the commentators and the crowd. As if that weren’t enough, Abhishek Porel’s LBW dismissal sparked further outrage, with UltraEdge indicating a possible inside edge that wasn’t considered in the final call.

Social Media Uproar: “Umpire Indians” Becomes a Hashtag of Frustration

As soon as the game ended, fans took to Twitter and Instagram to share screenshots and clips of the poor decisions, calling them “game-defining errors.” The hashtag #UmpireIndians became a trending topic in a number of regions, with fans accusing the officiating crew of inconsistency and bias. Some fans wanted the BCCI to investigate umpiring standards and put in more strict DRS protocols.

While Mumbai stepped away with a must-have win to keep them alive in the playoff hunt, the post-match discussion has mostly centered around the umpiring controversies, not Suryakumar Yadav's brilliance or Bumrah's fiery spells. For a tournament that prides itself on excellence, the integrity of umpiring might now be the biggest talking point of the IPL.

In Match 63 of IPL 2025, the Mumbai Indians (MI) snatched a 59-run win against the Delhi Capitals (DC) to keep their playoff hopes alive at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, MI managed a strong score of 180/5 despite tricky conditions behind Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 73* (43 balls). The explosive cameo from Naman Dhir, batting 23* off 12 balls, bolstered the innings at the development phase of the innings. MI blazed nearly 50 runs in the last couple of overs, turning what appeared to be a 160 total into a significant target of 180.

In a normal season, these runs would be utterly unattainable, but the MI bowlers used scoreboard pressure on DC. A lone effort from Sameer Rizvi (39 off 35 balls) stood out amongst the batting hurdle. It became evident during the DC innings that MI's bowlers were always going to be relentless—I mean, look at their roster! Mitchell Santner (3/11) routed DC through the middle overs, Jasprit Bumrah (3/12) struck bowled through the powerplay and the death, and Will Jacks played a DD before DC's respective batsmen could blink. MI quickly routed DC for 121 in 18.2 overs.

DC's early followers, including Kuldeep and Mukesh, were always in control, but their efforts spiraled down a rabbit hole in the last few overs, where DC didn't have Axar Patel and Mitchell Starc. the Indian team would have driven MI down a rabbit hole themselves. MI now surges with confidence toward the playoff battle, while DC’s hopes hang by a thread, needing wins in all remaining games.

1. Expensive Death Overs

Delhi Capitals was completely in control for the first 18 overs, keeping MI down to a modest score. Their death bowling fell apart completely, giving away almost 50 runs in the last two overs. With loose bowling from DC, batting maestro Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir took MI up to a relevant 180 total -- more than enough on a slow Wankhede pitch.

2. Batting Collapse Under Pressure

Delhi's batting never really got going in that chase. Sameer Rizvi ground out a hard-fought 39, but apart from a few wandering partnerships, the batting never got going. In just 18.2 overs, Delhi capitulated for just 121 runs. Michal Santner (3/11) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/12), simply put, piled pressure on the DC batting at crucial times, too, exposing DC's fragility.

3. Absence of Key Players

Delhi's missing Axar Patel and Mitchell Starc was severely damaging. With Axar turning the ball, he would have had a field day as Santner did. Starc's raw pace would have added bite to the attack. Without Starc and Axar Patel, DC would have had to play to their strengths, key players who lacked a 'bite,' as they attempted to match up against the quality of MI.

The IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians gave a complete all-round performance to crush the Delhi Capitals by 59 runs in a one-sided contest. MI batted first and scored a strong total of 180/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten innings by Suryakumar Yadav. In reply, DC crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for 121 in 18.2 overs.

Mumbai Indians Innings

Suryakumar Yadav was the star of the show with his brilliant unbeaten 73 runs off 43 balls, anchoring the middle order with his attacking style. Tilak Varma played a responsible innings, scoring 27 runs in a run a ball, whilst Ryan Rickelton gave the innings early momentum with his brisk 25 runs off 18 balls. Despite some breakthroughs by Mukesh Kumar (2/48), Delhi could not stem the flow of runs, and MI made a strong total. Kuldeep Yadav (1/22) and Mustafizur Rahman (1/30) were economical but did not have much support.

Delhi Capitals Innings

Chasing 181 runs, DC never looked in rhythm to pursue it and lost wickets consistently. Sameer Rizvi showed some resilience with a few solid shots in his 39 off 35 balls, while Vipraj Nigam (20 off 11) and Ashutosh Sharma (18 off 16) attempted to inject life into the innings, but MI produced a brilliant bowling performance with Mitchell Santner (3/11) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/12) contributing to a fast collapse. Will Jacks also contributed with a tidy 1/16 in his single over.

MI vs DC: Post Match Reactions

Suryakumar Yadav (Player of the Match): After a match-winning innings of 73*, Suryakumar Yadav finally won the Player of the Match award. "My wife reminded me that I hadn't won it yet this season, so it makes it special. I think it was important for me to bat till the end, but Naman Singh's left-handed hitting really helped. We will have some cake at the hotel to celebrate," he said.

Mitchell Santner (Mumbai Indians): Santner, with his 3/11, said, "It was a red-soil wicket and a bit on the slower side. It helped, bowling stump to stump with a good overspin. I thought 180 was above par. SKY and Naman set it up well. Bumrah's finishing was brilliant."

Faf du Plessis (Delhi Capitals Captain): Faf said, "Fielding was good, but we lost the game in the last two overs. Rizvi showed potential as a top player, but we lost momentum in the end. Bad time to be without Axar and Starc. This loss is a wrap-up to our inconsistent season."

Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians Captain): "I think having Santner and Bumrah makes my job easier; they bring control and perfection. We thought 160 would be good on that tricky pitch, but Surya and especially Naman at the end made 180 possible. Good all-around effort on a very tricky surface."

DC stand-in skipper Du Plessis won the toss and chose to field first. At the toss, the former South African revealed that Axar Patel was missing the match due to being down with a really bad flu.

Another IPL 2025 game is under threat of rain. Delhi Capitals (DC) is set to face Mumbai Indians (MI) in a highly intense and important match to make their stance relevant for the race to the playoffs. At present, MI is slightly in an advanced position compared to Capitals.

According to the latest weather forecast, from today, Mumbai will get constant rain. DC co-owner requested IPL officials to shift the match from Mumbai

Mumbai and Delhi have two more games to play in the league stage. Along with the points table, the weather forecast has made the scenario more complex for DC. The team's co-owner, Partha Jindal, has written a letter to the IPL governing body with the request to shift the match from Wankhede, where weather will not interrupt.

Jindal said in the mail to the IPL officials, "The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains, and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out. Just as the game between RCB and SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league, it is my request that tomorrow’s (May 21) game also be moved to a different location."
