The Super Six, 20th of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia & EAP Qualifier 2025, will see Japan (JPN) facing Oman (OMN) at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground. Oman's Super Six campaign in the Asia and EAP Qualifier has been strong, with victories over Qatar and the UAE, and their carry-over points from earlier stages have already secured their place in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

On the other hand, Japan's campaign in the Asia and EAP Qualifier has been highly praised. Although they will end up in fourth place on the table, they won't qualify for the T20 World Cup, but their performances are full of promise.

Nepal and Oman have officially sealed their spots for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, confirming their qualification even before their Super Six meeting in Al Amerat. The two Asian sides became the 18th and 19th teams to book their tickets for the global event, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 6 to March 7, 2026.

Their qualification was confirmed after the UAE defeated Samoa by 77 runs earlier in the day, a result that ensured Nepal and Oman would finish as the top two teams in the Asia-East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier. Both sides sit level on points, separated only by net run rate, while UAE remain third and will face Japan next in a must-win fixture for the final available spot.

Nepal’s campaign has been driven by their star wristspinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who has claimed ten wickets in four matches at an impressive average of 9.40 and an economy rate under six. His match-winning spell of 5 for 18 against Qatar was crucial in defending a modest total of 148. Nepal have shown remarkable consistency and composure, winning close contests against UAE and Qatar to remain unbeaten through the group and Super Six stages.

Oman, on the other hand, continued their fine form from previous ICC events. Led by strong performances from left-arm seamer Jiten Ramanandi, who has taken seven wickets at an economy of 5.90, Oman overcame both Qatar and UAE in tight finishes to seal qualification. The Gulf nation has now qualified for its third T20 World Cup after appearances in 2016 and 2024.

For Nepal, this marks a third qualification as well, following their earlier entries in 2014 and 2024. Both teams made first-round exits in the 2024 edition but will now look to build on that experience heading into 2026.

With one spot still up for grabs, UAE, Japan, and Qatar remain in contention. However, for Nepal and Oman, the focus now shifts to preparing for the main event, where they’ll once again share the world stage with cricket’s biggest names.

<![CDATA[Oman to strengthen cricket infrastructure with three new grounds]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/oman-to-strengthen-cricket-infrastructure-with-three-new-grounds/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/oman-to-strengthen-cricket-infrastructure-with-three-new-grounds/ Mon, 06 Oct 2025 23:27:42 GMT

Oman Cricket is set to embark on its most ambitious phase of growth yet. With visiting teams and ICC officials regularly lauding its world-class infrastructure, the governing body has unveiled plans to construct three new international-standard grounds in Al Amerat, a move that signals the Sultanate’s growing status as a global cricketing hub.

The announcement was made by Oman Cricket (OC) Chairman Pankaj Khimji, who revealed that land adjacent to the current Oman Cricket Academy complex in Al Amerat has been secured for the expansion. The development comes just days before Oman hosts the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier 2025, beginning October 8, featuring nine participating nations.

Expanding the Al Amerat Cricket Hub

“We are very privileged and thankful to the ICC for giving us the opportunity to host another major event,” said Khimji, as he reviewed final preparations for the upcoming qualifier. “Oman has developed world-class cricket infrastructure over the years, built with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, and with immense support from the government and private sector. We are now enjoying the fruits of that effort, but the next phase is about scaling up.”

Khimji confirmed that construction on the first of the three new grounds, informally referred to as the “third ground”, is expected to be completed by the end of next year. The remaining two will follow as part of a long-term master development plan designed to transform Al Amerat into a full-fledged cricketing campus.

“We are working on a detailed master plan that includes three new turf grounds,” Khimji explained. “The immediate focus is on completing the third ground by next year. These facilities will give us more resources to host bigger and better international tournaments in the years ahead.”

Rising Reputation on the Global Stage

Since successfully hosting matches during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, Al Amerat has become a benchmark for Associate-level cricket infrastructure. Visiting teams have often praised Oman’s immaculate playing surfaces, practice facilities, and hospitality, features that rival many Full Member nations.

“Teams that visit Oman often tell us our grounds and infrastructure are on par with full-member nations,” Khimji noted. “That’s a tremendous compliment and motivation for us to keep improving.”

Focus on Performance and Development

While the expansion reflects Oman’s administrative and infrastructural progress, OC officials remain equally focused on the national team’s continued improvement.

“Our objective has always been cricket, cricket, cricket,” said OC Treasurer Alkesh Joshi. “We’re less focused on commercialisation and more on building a strong, competitive team.”

Joshi, who managed the team during the recent Asia Cup, said that Oman’s spirited performance against India in that tournament boosted morale across the squad. “The boys played phenomenal cricket against India, and that performance gave them belief. If they can compete at that level, they can certainly excel at the Associate level.”

He also credited the team’s improved fitness and fielding standards to new additions to the support staff, strength and conditioning coach Shiva and physiotherapist Dr. Ashish. “The players are fitter, more alert, and more disciplined,” he added. “You can see the difference on the field.”

Eyes on World Cup Qualification

Oman will aim to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup for the fourth time when they host the EAP Qualifier this week. Having already featured in the 2016, 2021, and 2024 editions, the national side is eager to make it two consecutive appearances.

“Oman is the only Associate nation from Asia to have played in three T20 World Cups, and we hope to make it four by qualifying at home this time,” Joshi said. “There’s no pressure, only pride. Playing at home is both an advantage and an opportunity to show what Oman can deliver, on and off the field.”

With three new grounds in the works and a growing reputation for excellence, Oman Cricket’s “Cricketing Renaissance 2.0,” as Khimji calls it, is well underway, a blend of ambition, infrastructure, and passion that’s redefining the sport’s future in the Sultanate.

In Match 12 of the Asia Cup 2025, India achieved another dominant win by 21 runs against Oman at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Batting first, India scored 188/8. Samju Samson was the top scorer with 56 runs, and Abhishek Sharma gave an aggressive start. Oman began their chase in solid fashion, with Aamir Kaleem (64 runs off 46) and Hammad Mirza (51 runs off 33) laying the foundation following a steady powerplay. Oman looked in contention at one time, but India’s bowlers struck at important junctures. The chase eventually finished at 167/4, leaving Oman short of victory. However, they played their best game of the tournament so far. Below are the main reasons for Oman defeat:

1. Imposing Target Set by India

Although India tried out their batting order and Suryakumar Yadav didn't bat, India still managed to make a competitive total of 188 runs. Sanju Samson provided a strong performance with a half-century, while Abhishek Sharma got things going at a good pace. For Oman, it was too much against a leading side.

2. Lack of Acceleration Despite Strong Start

Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem, the openers for Oman, got them off to a solid start to finish 44/0 after the powerplay. Kaleem’s fifty kept them in the contest. But with the asking rate climbing, they failed to push harder in the middle overs.

3. Crucial Wickets at Critical Moments

Aamir Kaleem (64 off 46) and Hammad Mirza (51 off 33) both fell at the wrong times for Oman. After their departures in the deathovers,s it was all pressure on Oman. The bowlers of India took to this and forced a comfortable win.

India, already through to the Super 4 stage, faced Oman in their final group match of the Asia Cup 2025. Unlike the earlier games, this time they batted first after chasing successfully in their previous two victories.

Opener Abhishek Sharma gave the team a flying start with his aggressive stroke play, setting the tone early on. However, once he departed, the momentum slowed down and the scoring rate dipped as Oman’s bowlers applied pressure in the middle overs.

When Hardik Pandya walked in, the crowd anticipated fireworks and quick runs from the star all-rounder. But the script unfolded differently, as he couldn’t deliver the power-hitting fans had expected. Instead, India’s innings settled into a more cautious approach, contrasting sharply with their earlier group-stage performances.

Hardik Pandya Got Run Out Against Oman:

After India lost quick wickets, expectations were high when Hardik Pandya arrived to bat, with fans hoping for his trademark big shots to lift the innings. However, his first outing in the Asia Cup 2025 turned out unfortunate, as he was dismissed through a run-out at the non-striker’s end, leaving supporters disappointed.

On the third ball of the 8th over, Hardik Pandya’s innings came to an abrupt end in unlucky fashion. Facing Jiten Ramanandi, Sanju Samson struck a firm drive back down the ground. The bowler, reacting quickly, managed to get his hand on the ball, which deflected onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

Hardik, who had backed up too far, was caught well short of the crease. Despite realizing the ball had made contact, he had no chance to return. Dismissed for just 1 run off 1 delivery, his run-out handed Oman their second breakthrough in quick succession, shifting momentum in their favor during a crucial phase of the match.

India’s Average Batting Against Oman:

Batting first for the first time in the Asia Cup, India delivered a mixed performance. Abhishek Sharma showcased his natural attacking style, smashing a brisk 38 runs, while Sanju Samson impressed with his maiden half-century of the tournament.

Towards the end, Axar Patel and Tilak Verma chipped in with valuable quick runs, and Harshit Rana’s contribution added further strength to the total. However, one of the biggest talking points from India’s innings was that captain Suryakumar Yadav surprisingly did not come out to bat, leaving fans curious about the unusual decision.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why Oman lost to United Arab Emirates in the Asia Cup 2025 match 7]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-oman-lost-to-united-arab-emirates-in-the-asia-cup-2025-match-7/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-oman-lost-to-united-arab-emirates-in-the-asia-cup-2025-match-7/ Mon, 15 Sep 2025 23:14:51 GMT

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) dominated Oman in Match 7 of the Asia Cup 2025. The UAE batted first and scored 172 runs for the loss of five wickets from the 20 overs, thanks to Muhammad Waseem 69 runs from 54 deliveries and Alishan Sharafu 51 runs from 38 balls. Oman started their chase poorly, losing wickets quickly and hardly getting any rhythm in their batting. Junaid Siddique was exceptional with the ball, taking four wickets on only 23 runs as Oman were bowled out for 130 runs in 18.4 overs to hand UAE a victory by 42 runs. Below are the main reasons for Oman defeat:

1. Powerful opening stand and strong batting foundation

The two UAE openers, sharafu and Waseem, opened up with a bang and were very positive from the start, finishing up their powerplay at 50/0 from 6 overs. Their aggressive but controlled stroke play set up a competitive total of 172 .

2. Junaid Siddique’s game-changing bowling performance

Siddique broke through the Oman chasing line-up with his blistering 4/23 spell, which included some extremely important early wickets. His spell decimated all possible momentum and partnerships through the innings.

3. Oman’s batting collapse and inability to build partnerships

Oman regularly lost wickets in Clusters 41/4 by the end of the powerplay and eventually crumbled for 130. No batsman established stability or tempo, and partnerships rarely lasted long enough to challenge the score.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why Oman lost to Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 match 4]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-oman-lost-to-pakistan-in-the-asia-cup-2025-match-4/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-oman-lost-to-pakistan-in-the-asia-cup-2025-match-4/ Sat, 13 Sep 2025 00:48:38 GMT

In Match 4 of the Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan elected to bat first, after winning the toss, and scored 160/7 in 20 overs, thanks mainly to Mohammad Haris’s contribution of 66 runs off 43 balls. When it came Oman’s turn to bat, they fell apart as they were bowled out for 67 in 16.4 overs and Pakistan won by 93 runs. The bowlers kept it tight with their lines and the fielders providing support helped choke Oman completely. Pakistan began their Asia Cup campaign in style with a strong statement to the tournament. Below are the main reasons for Oman defeat.

1. Pakistan’s imposing total backed by Mohammad Haris’s innings

Pakistan posted a strong 160/7 after being pegged back early. Mohammad Haris played a swashbuckling innings with 66 runs off 43 balls with seven fours and three sixes, anchoring the chase after the team lost early wickets and giving them a platform Oman couldn't match.

2. Oman’s batting collapse under relentless pressure

Once set a target of 161, Oman collapsed and lost wickets in lots. They were bowled out for 67 in 16.4 overs. Pakistan bowlers Sufiyan Muqeem (2/7), Faheem Ashraf (2/6), Saim Ayub (2/8), took advantage of the pressure, while the Oman batters flattered to deceive.

3. Effective spells and momentum-swinging breakthroughs

Pakistan's bowlers showed discipline and aggression. Muqeem was able to remove important batsmen with clever spin early, then Ashraf and Ayub took incisive lower-order wickets. Oman never adapted to their early wickets which turned into run-outs and half-chances, which changed the momentum completely. Because of their lower-order collapse, they gave up all hope.

<![CDATA[Do you know two players over 40 plus years are representing their nation in Asia Cup 2025?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/do-you-know-two-players-over-40-plus-years-are-representing-their-nation-in-asia-cup-2025/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/do-you-know-two-players-over-40-plus-years-are-representing-their-nation-in-asia-cup-2025/ Fri, 12 Sep 2025 20:20:54 GMT

It’s been said that the shortest format is built for fresh legs and a young mindset. But during the ongoing Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), there were several players who had experienced and crossed the 35-year age mark. Their roles will be quite crucial for their respective side in crunch situations of the tournament.

Such an incident also took place during the fourth contest of the event between Pakistan and Oman at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This is perhaps the first occasion of two players over 40 years of age turning up for their nation in the Men’s Asia Cup event. Oman’s Aamir Kaleem and Mohammed Nadeeem, both 43 years of age, are representing their country.

Kaleem, the batting all-rounder of the side, has smashed 580 runs in 36 T20 innings at an average of just under 20 and a strike rate of 115.53 with the help of one half-century at the best score of unbeaten 72 runs. With the ball, he has picked up 41 wickets at an average of 20 and an economy rate of 7.47.

Oman’s 43-year-olds Aamir Kaleem and Mohammed Nadeem represent their nation in Asia Cup 2025

On the other hand, Kadeem has featured in 42 T20I innings to nail 641 runs at an average of just over 20 and a strike rate of 110.51, thanks to a couple of half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 77 runs. With the ball, he has recorded 34 wickets at an economy rate of under eight.

Winning the toss against Oman, Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, decided to bat first on a surface he reckoned would offer swing later on. It’s the same track on which India chased down 60 against the United Arab Emirates two days ago to earn a victory by nine wickets and more than 15 overs to spare.

In the opening over of their bowling, Oman’s left-arm pacer, Shah Faisal, got the wicket of Saim Ayub on the very first delivery. The left-handed batter looked to swing his willow, and once he missed that delivery, the straight ball found him plumb before the stumps.

Pakistan and Oman lock horns for the 4th match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium. Ahead of the India match, it is a must-win match for Pakistan. They played some good cricket in the recent past and are one of the favorites to reach the final phase of the tournament. It is a prestige fight for Oman, as they have nothing to lose; they will try to put in all their cards.

Toss Update:

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha, keeping an eye on the surface, decided to bat first after winning the toss.Initially, the fresh wicket of Dubai International Stadium, where the India vs. UAE Asia Cup 2025 match took place, looks harder. There can be some bounce on the wicket, and in the first innings, with the shining new ball, pacers can get some movement as well. In the second innings, chances of getting movement with the ball can reduce gradually, which can make batters score runs easily on the pitch. The Pakistan cricket team is well aware of the surface, so they did not hesitate to take the bat first.

Agha, the Pakistan skipper, said, "The surface looks good. Our plan is to score as many runs as possible. Our team has been playing good cricket over the last 2-3 months, with the group really coming together, and we want to carry that momentum forward.'
