In the 20th match of The Hundred 2025 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, Trent Rockets captain David Willey won the toss and chose to bowl first on a slow pitch. The Rockets played with the same team, while Manchester Originals made three changes, bringing in George Linde, Sam Hain, and Sam Cook. Manchester had a rough start. Opener McKinney got out for a duck in just two balls. Jos Buttler scored 19 from 16 balls and captain Phil Salt added 19, but no one stayed long enough to build the innings. Rachin Ravindra also fell for a golden duck.

The only good knock came from Lewis Gregory, who remained not out on 33 from 21 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes. The Rockets’ bowlers were on top, with Willey taking three wickets, while Rehan Ahmed and Sam Cook took two each. Manchester could only reach 98/8 in their 100 balls.

Chasing 99, the Rockets also lost quick wickets. Tom Banton made 11, and Joe Root managed just 4 runs. But then Rehan Ahmed changed the game with smart hitting. He scored an unbeaten 45 from 35 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. Tom Moores also played some good aggresive shots to speed up the chase. Together, they guided the Rockets home in style, winning by 7 wickets with 26 balls left.

A disappointing outing for the Manchester Originals ended on a rather bright note when Phil Salt stole the show with his extraordinary brilliance in the field. During the second innings, the Trent Rockets were hardly fazed as they were only tasked with chasing down a meager target of 99 in less than a run-a-ball. But Salt gave the Originals something to cheer about during the 48th ball of the run chase. 

Josh Tongue ran in to deliver a fairly pitched-up delivery outside off. The concerned batter at the other end was Trent Rockets' Max Holden. He attempted an uppish drive in a bid to clear the infield. But much to his despair, Salt, who was standing at midoff, left Holden stunned with a breathtaking one-handed catch.

Salt had to cover some good ground to his right. As the ball seemed to curl through the air, the T20 batting icon made a timely jump and flew to his right to stick his right hand out for the catch. Unbelievable as it may sound, the ball settled straight into his right hand, and upon impact with the ground, Salt did spectacularly well to retain control of the ball by making sure that his hands remained underneath.

Salt's mind-boggling effort on the field helped him earn some quick praise from the on-air commentator Simon O'Doull, who was present at the time when the spectacular catch was taken. Subsequently, his teammates also went to him and surrounded him in joy to celebrate the momentous occasion. But sadly, his out-of-the-world catch wasn't going to be enough to deter the Trent Rockets. Despite losing Holden at a critical time of the run chase, the Rockets remained firmly in control of the match. 

His dismissal brought Tom Moores to the crease. He joined hands with Rehan Ahmed, and the duo managed to muster a handy unbeaten 40-run partnership to take Trent Rockets over the line by seven wickets and 26 balls to spare. David Willey was the standout bowler for Trent Rockets from the first innings and was awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) for bagging impressive figures of 3-11. 

Manchester Originals put on a brilliant show at Old Trafford as they crushed Northern Superchargers by 57 runs in the 17th match of The Hundred 2025. Batting first, the Originals lost skipper Phil Salt early, but Jos Buttler held the innings together with a fine unbeaten 64 from 45 balls. Rachin Ravindra gave quick runs with a fiery 31 off 14 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen smashed 50 not out from just 25 balls. Their efforts carried the Originals to a strong total of 171/3.

In reply, the Superchargers never looked comfortable. Michael Pepper fell for a duck, and wickets kept falling one after another. Only David Miller fought back with 38 runs from 22 balls, but it wasn’t enough. For the Originals, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue picked up three wickets each, while Ravindra and Noor Ahmad took two apiece. The Superchargers were bowled out for 114, giving the Originals a huge 57-run victory and delighting the home crowd.

Like Varma, Phil Salt also played his last T20I back in February this year but moved from 4th place to the 3rd spot of the ICC T20I rankings. In his last T20I match, which was against India, the opener scored an inspiring 55 runs at Wankhede. For England, the attacking batter played 43 T20Is to score a total of 1193 runs at an average of 34.08.

Tim David:

The big man from Australia has moved forward by 6 steps and moved into the top 10 of the ICC T20I Rankings for the batters. The all-rounder, who's mostly known for his power-hitting abilities, rescued team Australia multiple times from trouble. David mostly came to bat at number 5 or lower. Being a lower-order batter, he often got a very limited number of balls to prove himself. For Australia, the 29-year-old cricketer played brilliantly against Australia and the West Indies. Against Australia, he scored 83 and 50 in Darwin. And in a match against the West Indies, the batter scored a century as well. 

Cameroon Green:

Another cricketer from Australia who has made progress in the rankings. Moving up by 6 spots, Green is currently at number 17. The 26-year-old all-rounder played a pivotal role for the Australia cricket team during the series against the West Indies and against South Africa too. At Basseterre, against WI, he scored an unbeaten 55. In 20 T20Is for the Aussies, Green scored 512 runs at an average of 34.13. 

Dewald Brevis:

From outside the top 100 to 21st, the young South African batter has gained massively. That phenomenal 125-run innings from his blade helped South Africa to square the three-match series against the Aussies at 1-1. It was the highest T20I score by any South African men's batter and the highest ever against Australia in what was Brevis' ninth T20I appearance for his country.

In the ninth match of The Hundred 2025 at Old Trafford, Manchester Originals finally got their first win of the season, defeating London Spirit by 10 runs. The home side had lost their first two games, while London came in after a win in their last match.

Manchester won the toss and chose to bat. Ben McKinney gave them a flying start with 29 runs off 12 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes. Jos Buttler scored 46 from 37 balls, and Phil Salt made 31 from 20. Lewis George added a quick 10 off 5 balls, taking the total to 163/5. Olly Stone and Jamie Overton took two wickets each for London.

Chasing 164, London had a slow start as David Warner and Kane Williamson struggled early. Williamson made 19 off 20 balls, while Warner fought hard with 71 off 51 balls, hitting 12 fours and a six. Jamie Overton’s quick 19 off 7 balls wasn’t enough, and London fell short by 10 runs.

The fifth match of The Hundred 2025 saw Oval Invincibles take on Manchester Originals at the Kennington Oval in South London. Oval came in with a win from their last game and brought in Saqib Mahmood for Jordan Clark. Manchester made one change too, with George Garton replacing Farhan Ahmed.

Batting first, Manchester had a rough start. Captain Phil Salt was the only one to score well. Matthew Hurst and Jos Buttler were out for ducks, and Mark Chapman made 28 from 19 balls. The middle and lower order couldn’t add much, though Scott Currie hit a quick 21 from nine balls to push the total to 128.

Oval’s chase was all about their openers. Will Jacks smashed 61 runs from just 26 balls, hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes. Tawanda Muyeye stayed not out on 59 from 28 balls with 10 fours. They put on 114 runs for the first wicket, making the chase simple. Jordan Cox scored the winning runs as Oval won by nine wickets. With this win, Oval Invincibles have now won two games in a row and are on top of the points table.

On Saturday (August 9), during the Men's Hundred fixture between Manchester Originals and Oval Invincibles, IPL 2025 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru star created Men's Hundred history with the bat. 

In the fifth match of the Men's Hundred 2025, Manchester Originals vs Oval Invincibles, the Invincibles crushed their opponents by nine wickets. After Originals were bowled out for 128 runs, Invincibles chased down the target in 57 balls after losing only one wicket. Although the team suffered a defeat, Originals skipper Phil Salt set a first-time record in the tournament.

Phil Salt becomes first to score 1000 runs in Men's Hundred 

The English right-handed opening batter Phil Salt scored 41 off 32 balls with the help of one four and three sixes. With this knock, he became the first cricketer to score 1000 runs in the Men's Hundred. He has now scored 1036 runs in the Men's Hundred after batting 37 innings, where he also recorded seven half-centuries.

On the previous day (August 8), English cricketer Nat Sciver-Brunt created history in Women's Hundred as she became the first to record 1000 runs in the competition. With her 64-run knock, she has recorded 1031 runs in the Women's Hundred. However, on Saturday, Salt surpassed Sciver-Brunt in the list of most runs in overall Hundred history.

Talking about Men's Hundred, James Vince (986) is very close to becoming the second batter to record 1000 runs in the competition. Also, three more batters have already crossed 800 runs in this tournament. 

Meanwhile, in Women's Hundred, Danni Wyatt-Hodge (939) is close to 1000 runs in the tournament, while two more batters have also crossed the 800 runs mark.
