The ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 staged multiple shocking moments in the group stage. Along with star players, batters from underrated teams also showed their class to leave a positive impression on cricket fans' memories for a long time. Among all the blistering knocks, which 5 are the most fascinating? Let's take a look at the list.

Top 5 batting performances in the group stage:

1. Yuvraj Samra (110 vs New Zealand): Proving many pre-match predictions wrong, Yuvraj Samra from Canada lit up the stage on February 17 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Against New Zealand, the Canadian opener played a mind-blowing 110-run knock against 65 balls, powered by eleven 4s and six 6s. Because of Samra's century, Canada posted 173 runs in the first innings. New Zealand chased down the run by 8 wickets.

2. Pathum Nissanka (100* vs Australia): In Australia's must-win match, Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka came up with an unbeaten century. Chasing 182, Nissanka remained not out for 100 off 52 and sealed another win for Sri Lanka, the co-host of the tournament. The elegant batter smashed ten 4s and five 6s in the process. Later, the defeat against Sri Lanka ruled Australia out of the title race.

3. Aiden Markram (86* vs New Zealand): It was a battle of two heavyweight teams at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. New Zealand went to bat first and registered a competitive total of 175. South Africa skipper and opener Aiden Markram wrapped up the match in style by scoring 86 not out in 44 balls. He smashed eight 4s and four 6s to chase down the target successfully in 17.1 overs. South Africa won the match by 7 wickets.

4. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (84 vs South Africa): The Afghanistan vs. South Africa match on February 11 in Ahmedabad will be long remembered for years. Two super overs were needed to find out the winner between these two teams. South Africa eventually won the match, but it was Rahmanullah Gurbaz who won the hearts despite being on the losing side. The opener registered a gallant 84 off 42 with a 200.00 strike rate.

5. Suryakumar Yadav (84* vs the USA): In the opening match of their campaign, Team India falls into an unexpected situation against the United States when most of their batters are dismissed cheaply. In the hour of need, the captain, Suryakumar Yadav, stood tall and delivered 84* off 49 for a winning effort. India eventually won the match by 29 runs, after securing 161 in the first innings.

On the other hand, Canada has lost all their matches and currently occupies the bottom position in the points table. They lost their previous match by eight wickets against New Zealand, failing to defend the target of 174 runs. Match Prediction – Who Will Win

Afghanistan's T20 World Cup journey is over if they lose this match, which comes after two consecutive defeats. The UAE recently defeated Canada and is coming in with plenty of optimism in its camp. However, the UAE's attack has not looked particularly threatening, and players such as Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Gulbadin Naib will be confident of scoring big against them. While the UAE has some batting depth, we cannot imagine their bowlers doing sufficient damage unless something extraordinary happens, so Afghanistan should do the job. Considering the team combination, Afghanistan is expected to win this match.

Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave his best, but it was not enough to take his team to victory against South Africa in the first-ever T20 World Cup double Super Over match. He played a brilliant knock of 84 runs off 42 balls, smashing seven sixes during his innings. His powerful hitting kept Afghanistan in the contest in a high-pressure game in Ahmedabad.

With those seven sixes, Gurbaz entered the top five list for most sixes in T20 World Cup history. During the innings, he went past several legends of the game, including South Africa’s AB de Villiers and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell with 30 sixes each, Australia’s Shane Watson with 31 sixes, India’s Yuvraj Singh with 33 sixes, and India’s Virat Kohli with 35 sixes.

After his outstanding knock, an old video of Gurbaz went viral on social media. In the video, he said that he contacts Virat Kohli whenever he needs help to improve his batting. Gurbaz shared that he was going through a rough patch recently, and Kohli’s advice helped him return to form.

Gurbaz Opens Up on Virat Kohli’s Support

“I call Virat bhai sometimes when I am in trouble, when I need help. We talk on the phone. I tell him, ‘Bhai, I need this help,’ and most of the time we discuss it,” said Rahmanullah Gurbaz. He also shared, “Recently, when I was not able to score runs, I called him. In the very next game, I scored 90-something.” When asked about Kohli’s advice, Gurbaz said that the Indian star tells him to keep things simple and enjoy the game.

Gurbaz Shines in Double Super Over But Ends on Losing Side

The Afghan opener played a brilliant knock and kept the chase alive with his powerful hitting. He scored 84 runs from just 42 balls. In the 13th over, he was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj when Afghanistan were 121/4. At that time, Afghanistan needed 67 runs from the last 45 balls. Even though wickets kept falling, Noor Ahmad’s late effort and Kagiso Rabada’s no-balls helped take the match into a Super Over.

In the first Super Over, Gurbaz came out to bat with Azmatullah Omarzai. While Omarzai attacked Lungi Ngidi, Gurbaz managed to take a single. The match then moved to a second Super Over after scores were level. South Africa set a target of 24 runs. Mohammad Nabi came to bat first but got out after a dot ball. Gurbaz then hit three sixes in a row to keep hope alive. However, Maharaj bowled the final ball away from his reach, and South Africa won the historic double Super Over match.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s breathtaking strokeplay ultimately proved insufficient as South Africa edged Afghanistan in one of the most dramatic encounters in T20 World Cup history in Ahmedabad. The contest ebbed and flowed relentlessly, culminating in a second Super Over thriller decided off the final ball. Afghanistan seemed down and out multiple times, yet clawed their way back repeatedly. Kagiso Rabada’s no-ball in the final over of regulation kept Afghanistan alive, and Tristan Stubbs’ last-ball six in the first Super Over forced another twist. Every passage of play suggested closure, but the contest refused to settle until the very end.

Afghanistan’s chase of 188 was headlined by Gurbaz’s electrifying 42-ball 84. He tore into South Africa’s pace attack early, dispatching Jansen and Rabada for sixes while plundering George Linde for 17 in an over. Afghanistan raced past fifty within four overs before Lungi Ngidi applied the brakes with clever variations. Wickets fell in clusters, yet Gurbaz maintained the tempo, reigniting hopes with towering sixes as he neared a century. Maharaj eventually dismissed him at a crucial juncture, tilting momentum again as Afghanistan’s lower order battled rising pressure in a tense finale.

The drama intensified in extraordinary fashion across two Super Overs. Stubbs’ towering strike first kept South Africa alive, before Gurbaz reignited Afghanistan’s hopes with three successive sixes in the second eliminator. Maharaj’s wide added another twist, but he had the final say when Gurbaz found David Miller in the deep. Afghanistan were left ruing key decisions, notably not using Rashid Khan in the Super Overs and promoting Mohammad Nabi in the decider. Even earlier, a failed dive by Fazalhaq Farooqi while attempting a winning second run proved decisive in a heartbreakingly narrow defeat.

South Africa Hold Their Nerve in High-Scoring Epic

Earlier, South Africa posted 187 for 6 after recovering from a probing new-ball spell by Fazalhaq Farooqi. Aiden Markram fell early, but Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton counterattacked confidently. De Kock punished Mujeeb, Rickelton capitalized on loose deliveries, and Noor Ahmad endured a bruising introduction as 23 runs came off his first over. Both left-handers struck fluent half-centuries, adding a commanding century stand that shifted control firmly toward South Africa. Rashid Khan’s double strike briefly slowed momentum, but the platform had already been established for a competitive total.

The middle overs saw Afghanistan tighten the screws, strangling the scoring rate and striking twice through Omarzai to prevent a late explosion. Yet David Miller and Marco Jansen ensured a strong finish, combining boundaries and sixes to push South Africa to a formidable total. Afghanistan matched them stride for stride in reply, forcing a tie at 187 and stretching the battle into uncharted territory. In the end, South Africa’s composure under pressure delivered their second tournament win, while Afghanistan were left reflecting on a valiant effort that fell agonizingly short.

Cricket has been a cruel game at times, and Kagiso Rabada and Rahmanullah Gurbaz tasted it on different stages during the T20 World Cup 2026 encounter between South Africa and Afghanistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gurbaz played a sensational knock in their main innings of 20 overs and kept the hopes alive even in the second super-over, but things didn’t go in his favor.

A video has gone viral on a social media platform where Rahmanullah Gurbaz was seen sitting in the dug-out after the end of the clash with his hands on his head. The entire Afghan side also stood and had water in their eyes by the time the presentation ceremony was going on.

In the first innings, the Proteas posted a massive score of 187 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, where Ryan Rickelton clubbed 61 runs in 28 balls, thanks to five boundaries and four sixes, while Quinton de Kock nailed 59 runs in 41 balls at a strike rate of 143.90.

In reply, Gurbaz contributed massively with the knock of 84 runs in 42 balls, scoring four boundaries and seven sixes. But they kept losing wickets regularly in the chase, and they looked to fall away before Noor Ahmed cracked two timely sixes to tie the contest.

Watch the video here:

However, in the first super over, Azmatullah Omarzai collected two sixes against Lungi Ngidi, one was belted down the ground, and the second one was sliced over the cover region. In the chase, Dewald Brevis pulled the short ball over the deep square leg for a six before Tristan Stubbs’ last-ball six carried the game to the second super over.

This time around, the Proteas made their way to 24 runs thanks to two sixes by David Miller. Afghanistan lost Mohammad Nabi on the second ball of the chase of the second super over before Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed three consecutive sixes before being dismissed on the last ball, which saw the Proteas win the contest finally.

Brief Scores: SA 144/3 (Ryan Rickelton 61, Quinton de Kock 59, Rashid Khan 2/28) beat AFG 187/10 (Rahmanullah Gurbaz 84, Lungi Ngidi 3/26) in the second super over.

When South Africa set a massive target of 188 runs for Afghanistan in their second encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Asian side needed to get a great start inside the powerplay, and the eyes were on their wicket-keeper opening batter, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, to take them to a flying start in the first six overs of the innings.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz nailed Lungi Ngidi for a lovely boundary to open his account before punishing being at the backward square leg region for another boundary. He cleared the front leg and went over the third man region using the pace of Marco Jansen for the first six of the chase before clubbing Kagiso Rabada at the same region for another six.

When George Linde came into the attack, Gurbaz put him under pressure from the start as he nailed the flighted delivery over the mid-off region for a massive six. He lost three of his partners from the other end in just seven balls, but didn’t lose interest and focus on the board.

On the first ball of the eighth over, the right-handed batter lifted Linde over the bowler’s head for a massive six before punching him over the cover region for another maximum to celebrate his fifty in just 26 balls as Afghanistan kept their faith to get to the victory margin. It was the 14th 50+ score for Afghanistan in T20Is by Gurbaz, who is the joint-most with Ibrahim Zadran.

SA vs AFG Match Preview:

Afghanistan is ranked fourth in the points table after losing to New Zealand in their first game, with every game from now on a must-win. Five teams are fighting for the first two spots, with South Africa leading the way with an impressive NRR. A Proteas victory in this match would reduce Afghanistan's chances of advancing to the next round. South Africa began strongly with a convincing victory over Canada in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They include a dream pacers' team, as well as skilled players at the top order. Afghanistan's learning curve has been long, and it keeps on making old mistakes. Rashid Khan must figure out how to address the death overs issue.
