<![CDATA[IPL 2025: Why is Romario Shepherd playing in today's PBKS vs RCB match ?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-why-is-romario-shepherd-playing-in-today-s-pbks-vs-rcb-match/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-why-is-romario-shepherd-playing-in-today-s-pbks-vs-rcb-match/ Sun, 20 Apr 2025 10:47:02 GMT

After a disturbing performance against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in M. Chinnaswamy, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are now up against the same opponent, Punjab Kings, in their home ground, which is now Mullanpur Stadium. Unlike their home matches, RCB has achieved a very good winning record in their away games. To enhance their out-of-home winning ratio and to get back on the winning ways, Bengaluru has decided to play Romario Shepherd in place of Liam Livingstone. But why is the team management showing trust in the Caribbean over the T20 specialist Livingstone?

Livingstone, from the beginning of the IPL 2025, is an integral part of the red and black squad, playing 7 matches so far but barely able to justify his name.

The English batter is mostly known for his power-hitting skills, but for RCB, he was far away from his peak performance. In 6 innings, the right-handed batter welcomed only 87 runs in total, including a 54-run inning, 17.40 on average. Even with the ball in hand, Liam underperformed—2 wickets in 5 innings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru needs someone on the field who can make some quick runs and support the bowling dependent as well. So, they choose to go with Romario Shepherd. The West Indian all-rounder has played plenty of cricket in subcontinent conditions, especially in franchise cricket.

Romario's performance

The bowling all-rounder had a decent outing with Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024, played a crucial unbeaten 39-run innings, and, overall, averaged 28.50 with MI, powered by an exceptional strike rate of 271.42. In the Caribbean Premier League, the 30-year-old all-rounder batted with a 161.04 strike rate, and in the Bangladesh Premier League, he recorded a 152.54 strike rate as a batter.

Along with his big hitting skills, Shepherd's ability as a bowler is appreciable—72 wickets in CPL, 13 wickets in SA20, 5 wickets in BPL, and 4 wickets in IPL.

Punjab Kings (Playing XI)

Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, Shreyas Iyer (C), Josh Inglis (WK), Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Impact players - Harpreet Brar, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Praveen Dubey, Glenn Maxwell and Suryansh Shedge.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Playing XI)

Virat Kohli, Phil Salt (WK), Rajat Patidar (C), Romario Shepherd (In for Liam Livingstone), Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suyash Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Yash Dayal.

Impact players - Devdutt Padikkal, Rasikh Salam, Manoj Bhandage, Jacob Bethell and Swapnil Singh.

In the 2025 season, the dates and timings of both the leagues are clashing, and that is hurting Pakistan Super League. Many cricket pundits in Pakistan have question the timing of PSL, and the influence of IPL has also affected the star power present in PSL.

Now, an interesting video is going rounds on social media where a fan is seen watching IPL match from the Rawalpindi stadium during the PSL game. It shows that how much Pakistan people love IPL, and speaks a lot about the quality of cricket in the Indian league. However, it is a worrying sign for Pakistan cricket and PSL as a whole, if their own fans are not completely committed to the league even from the stadium.

Cricket fan’s viral moment highlights scheduling clash between IPL and PSL

The positive thing is that the person in the video probably loves cricket a lot, and does not want to miss any cricket action. PCB though would have to make sure that their league does not clash with IPL in the future, as it could affect their brand value, and overall craze of the league in their country.

One of the major reasons for PSL happening in April-May this year was the Champions Trophy earlier in 2025. Pakistan hosted non-India matches in that ICC tournament, and with some negative results troubling the team in the last couple of years, the cricket in the country looks in a sorry state.

Cricket fan caught watching IPL at PSL game wins the internet

The video has even drawn responses from meme pages, influencers, and cricket fan accounts from both India and Pakistan. Several have edited the clip with funny voiceovers, commentary, and even dramatic music to amplify the comedy of the situation.

While the identity of the fan remains unknown, he has inadvertently become a symbol of modern cricket fandom — loyal not to borders, but to the sport itself. Whether he was simply following his favorite IPL team, checking in on a fantasy league lineup, or just enjoying two matches at once, his dedication (and timing) has provided a moment of levity in an intense sporting season.

As PSL and IPL continue to grow in global popularity, moments like these highlight the shared passion and playful rivalry that cricket fosters among its fans. And for now, the cricket world is united in laughter, all thanks to one man, one phone, and two leagues competing for attention.

<![CDATA['Trying to figure out of how to bat...'— Tim David reveals success mantra against PBKS at Chinnaswamy Stadium]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/trying-to-figure-out-of-how-to-bat-tim-david-reveals-success-mantra-against-pbks-at-chinnaswamy-stadium/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/trying-to-figure-out-of-how-to-bat-tim-david-reveals-success-mantra-against-pbks-at-chinnaswamy-stadium/ Sat, 19 Apr 2025 11:26:07 GMT

Despite the players from the losing side, Tim David from Royal Challengers Bengaluru was awarded as the best performer of the match between RCB and Punjab Kings (PBKS). The Australian all-rounder was the only positive talking point of Bengaluru's batting line-up, as the team managed to score only 95/9 in a rain-shortened 14-over match. PBKS batters reached the finishing line despite some brilliant bowling displays from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazelwood.

RCB, so far in IPL 2025, did their job well in away matches, but at home they were in the back seat for three consecutive matches. Tim David, who scored an unbeaten 50 against PBKS last night, is still trying to adopt the nature of M. Chinnaswamy's surface.

"It didn't feel so easy. Definitely the boys that bat on top hand the conditions back down, so I get a chance to see what the pitch is doing and try and play to that method. The practice pitches here have been kind of similar, and I'm trying to figure out a method of how to bat best in those conditions."

Most of the RCB batters, including Virat Kohli, lost their respective wickets by misjudging the ball. Here, Tim David improvised his batting according to the conditions. His 26-ball innings was the longest he’s ever faced in an IPL match. For Cheteshwar Pujara, the innings David had played is appreciable.

Pujara praised David for his 50

According to Pujara, "It looked like he was aware of the lengths the bowlers were going to bowl, and he had a clear game plan—what kind of shots he wanted to play on that pitch. When you have clarity, it becomes easier. But yeah, he used this opportunity in his favor, and I'm sure his confidence will be boosted after this."

The Australian all-rounder believes that only practice can make a player better than before. He thanked Royal Challengers Bengaluru coach and other members of the team for his man-of-the-match performance.

The Aussie said, "Our coaching staff and management have built the squad for a certain reason, with guys that bat in certain positions. I am pleased; I feel like I am batting well at the moment and can contribute. But I trust the coach for putting me in where I can."

<![CDATA[IPL 2025: Top 3 reasons why Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost against Punjab Kings in Match No, 34]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-top-3-reasons-why-royal-challengers-bengaluru-lost-against-punjab-kings-in-match-no-34/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-top-3-reasons-why-royal-challengers-bengaluru-lost-against-punjab-kings-in-match-no-34/ Sat, 19 Apr 2025 10:22:09 GMT

In Match 34 of IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a five-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a rain-reduced 14-over game at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Tasked with defending a modest total of 95/9, RCB struggled to make an impact as PBKS comfortably chased down the target with more than an over to spare.

RCB’s disappointing performance could be traced to three key shortcomings: a misjudgment of the pitch conditions, a collapse in the middle order, and questionable decisions from the captain. These combined factors not only cost them the match but also raised concerns about their overall approach and adaptability in crunch situations.

1. Inability to Assess Pitch Conditions

The rain-affected surface offered uneven bounce and behaved unpredictably, yet RCB’s batters adopted an overly aggressive approach that backfired. Captain Rajat Patidar admitted post-match that the team “went too hard at the start” and failed to adapt to the conditions, resulting in a dramatic collapse at 42/7. Apart from Tim David’s valiant unbeaten 50 off 26 balls and Patidar’s 23 off 18, the rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute meaningfully, with eight players dismissed for single-digit scores. Against a relatively modest PBKS bowling attack, RCB’s inability to assess the pitch and adjust their game proved costly. Meanwhile, PBKS, led tactically by Shreyas Iyer, executed a clever bowling plan—employing hard and short lengths to exploit the pitch’s variable bounce, especially with some dew aiding them in the second innings. RCB’s misreading of the surface left them with a sub-par total and little chance of defending it.

2. Poor Performance of the Middle Order

RCB’s middle-order collapse only deepened their troubles. With early wickets of Phil Salt (4) and Virat Kohli (7), the responsibility fell on the remaining batters to stabilize the innings. However, Liam Livingstone (4), Jitesh Sharma (1), Krunal Pandya (1), and Manoj Bhandage (0) failed to rise to the occasion, showing little intent to build partnerships even as the situation demanded composure. The lack of adaptability was evident as they fell to poorly judged pull shots on a pitch offering extra bounce. Patidar later admitted that the team couldn’t form any meaningful partnerships in the middle overs. This collapse left RCB heavily dependent on Tim David’s explosive 50*, and despite Josh Hazlewood’s impressive 3/14, the team couldn’t recover. The middle order’s failure to read the conditions and steady the innings ultimately cost RCB a chance at posting a competitive total. This is not the first time that the middle order has looked brittle.

3. Lackluster Captaincy

Patidar’s captaincy lacked the sharpness and foresight shown by Shreyas Iyer. While PBKS smartly opened with pacers Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh, holding back Harpreet Brar to exploit the seam-friendly conditions, RCB missed a crucial trick by not deploying their own pace duo—Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar—early on. Instead, Patidar introduced young spinner Suyash Sharma, who was immediately targeted by Nehal Wadhera (33* off 19), giving PBKS early momentum. Unlike Iyer’s proactive bowling rotations, Patidar appeared reactive, especially after the initial spells from Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar, allowing Punjab to comfortably chase 96 in just 12.5 overs. Post-match, Patidar admitted that their bowling strategy didn’t match the pitch conditions, particularly their underuse of pace on a surface offering movement.

Thriving in away matches, languishing at home. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) so far in the IPL 2025 has experienced an uneven trajectory of their performance. The team, in search of their first IPL trophy, presented some inspiring acts on the field this season and has been heavily criticized by a former India cricketer for their poor batting display against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18.

IPL 2025, game 34 cut short from 20 overs each to 14 overs each. Bengaluru has experienced continuous rain for the last few days, which perhaps left some effect on the pitch of M. Chinnaswamy. In the 14-over match, RCB batters, including Virat Kohli, threw away their wickets through poor shot selections or poor execution. An entire batting lineup of a team collapsed only for reckless acts, which made Virendra Sehwag annoyed.

"RCB batted poorly. All of them played reckless shots to get out. Not a single batter was out to a good ball. At least one batter should've used common sense. If they had wickets in hand, they could have reached 110 or 120 in 14 overs, which would have given them a chance to fight," Sehwag said.

"Patidar has to think and come up with a solution. They have not been winning at home. Their bowlers are doing well, but why are their batters faltering regularly? It's not alright if your batters continuously fail at home. Who is going to rectify that?"

An easy outing for Punjab Kings

RCB scored 95 in exchange for 9 wickets, with an exceptional performance from Tim David. Where other Royal Challengers Bengaluru batters failed to impress, David alone played an unbeaten 50-run knock. In the following innings, two experienced bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood, tried their level best to keep their side relevant to the battle. But the target was too thin for Punjab Kings to chase down with 5 wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare.

Why Tim David Won Player Of The Match Award Despite RCB’s IPL 2025 Defeat Vs PBKS

In an exciting IPL 2025 encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), the spotlight shone brightly on one man—Tim David. While RCB eventually suffered a narrow defeat, David’s explosive and courageous performance earned him the Player of the Match award, raising many eyebrows. It's not often that a player from the losing side receives such an honor, but David’s performance was one that simply couldn’t be ignored.

In short:-

 • Tim David scored 50 off 26 vs PBKS
 • David also took 2 catches
 • RCB lost to PBKS by 5 wickets on Friday

A Lone Warrior in a Crumbling Line-up

RCB faced early setbacks during their chase, with the top and middle order collapsing under relentless pressure from PBKS bowlers. At one point, it looked as though RCB might not even reach a respectable total. However, Tim David walked in and took matters into his own hands. He launched a counter-attack that left fans on the edge of their seats and the PBKS camp temporarily rattled.

David scored a sensational 82 runs off just 41 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 5 fours. His power-hitting was clean, calculated, and came just when RCB needed a spark. Despite wickets falling around him, David maintained his composure and carried the team close to the target, turning what looked like a one-sided match into a nail-biting finish.

Impact Beyond the Scorecard

The Player of the Match award isn’t always about being on the winning side. It is awarded to the player who has the greatest influence on the game—and that’s exactly what David had. His fearless approach, ability to find boundaries under pressure, and sheer determination shifted the game’s momentum.

One of the most memorable moments of the night came when David smashed 24 runs in a single over, taking down a seasoned bowler with breathtaking confidence. It was a passage of play that momentarily put RCB in control and made the chase look achievable.

Punjab’s bowlers—Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, and Yuzvendra Chahal—each claimed two wickets. PBKS’s chase was aided with 33 runs from Nehal Wadhera, followed by a Marcus Stoinis six to secure the victory at 98/5 in 12.1 overs. The 34th match of the IPL 2025 saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 18, 2025. However, weather played spoilsport as a two-hour rain delay forced the match to be shortened to 14 overs per side. Once the skies cleared, Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first, hoping to take early advantage of the damp conditions. The reduced-over format added extra excitement and urgency to the contest, setting the stage for an intense and unpredictable clash between two top-performing teams in the league.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru innings

RCB made 95/9 runs in 14 overs. The innings got off to a terrible start when Virat Kohli scored one run before getting dismissed by Arshdeep Singh while RCB reached 42/7. Tim David hit an unmatched 50 off 26 balls which included three sixes and five four-run shots while scoring 21 runs against Harpreet Brar in the last over. Rajat Patidar got 23 runs from 18 balls yet all other batters ended their innings under ten runs. The PBKS bowlers delivered an outstanding performance during to family knock as Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar and Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets each to suppress RCB's batting order.

Punjab Kings innings

PBKS achieved victory by hitting 98/5 in 12.1 overs while chasing down a target of 96. They secured the win by finishing with 5 wickets and 11 balls remained. The PBKS inning revolved around Nehal Wadhera's 33 which he hit from 19 balls including three big hits. The match-winning six from Marcus Stoinis put an end to the contest. The outstanding bowling display from Josh Hazlewood earned him three wickets for 14 runs as he sent Josha Inglis and Shreyas Iyer back to the pavilion and Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished with two take-downs. The inadequacy of their target remained an impossible defense against their opponents.

RCB vs PBKS: Post Match Reactions

Tim David (Player of the Match, RCB): David, who was awarded Man of the Match, stated he was aware the conditions were tough and credited the top-order boxmen as they were the only ones to glean intelligence on the pitch. He complimented the work the coaching staff did to create a game plan to put the players in position to succeed. While David liked his form he blamed the loss primarily on RCB's lack of success at home and referenced the inconsistency of the conditions adapting the rain-affected pitch. He expressed excitement about the next match against PBKS that would be played on a used wicket.

Shreyas Iyer (PBKS Captain): Iyer complimented the adaptability of his team and mentioned the lethal bowling of Marco Jansen, but talked about how they were able to make the most out of the extra bounce. Iyer mentioned that he had to make instinctive decisions to get RCB's boxmen unsettled. He praised Nehal Wadhera for aggressive batting and Yuzvendra Chahal for match-winning bowling as someone who has always been important has the ability to bounce back on responsive wickets.

Rajat Patidar (RCB Captain): Patidar acknowledged that it was a two-paced pitch still sticky due to being under covers which suited PBKS's bowlers. RCB's batting struggles mentioned that there were a lack of partnerships in the middle and continual loss of wickets. He continued by praising the bowlers but at the same time also regarding the boxman's intent, having trouble adapting.he emphasized the importance of the batting unit correcting the mistakes made before their next game against PBKS.

Marco Jansen (PBKS): Jansen enjoyed the extra pace and bounce that helped him. He spoke about being willing to play any role, bowling new ball or not, and congratulated Iyer for his clear leadership and communication with the team. Jansen mentioned Chahal's wicket-taking ability, especially as an asset for PBKS.

RCB, after being invited to bat first by PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer, struggled right from the start. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Phil Salt in the very first over, followed by Virat Kohli, who managed only a single run. Captain Rajat Patidar was the lone top-order batter to make a noticeable contribution, scoring 23 runs off 18 balls. The rest of the batting lineup failed to perform, with players like Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, and Kunal Pandya falling cheaply, leaving RCB at 63 for 9.

Amid the collapse, Tim David stood tall with a stunning unbeaten 50 off 26 balls, including five boundaries and three sixes, helping RCB reach a total of 95 in their 14 overs. For PBKS, the bowling unit delivered an impressive performance, with Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harpreet Brar taking two wickets each, while Xavier Bartlett picked up one. The combined effort from the bowlers and a steady chase ensured a comfortable win for Punjab Kings in this rain-affected clash.

Punjab Kings had to struggle in the run chase

While chasing a modest target of 96 runs, Punjab Kings had a shaky start. Prabhsimran Singh was the first to fall, scoring 13 runs before being dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the team score at 22. Soon after, Priyansh Arya was sent back for 16 off 11 balls by Josh Hazlewood. Captain Shreyas Iyer also failed to leave a mark, managing just 7 runs before falling to Hazlewood as well. Josh Inglis added 14 runs off 17 balls, but the required momentum was still missing.

The tide turned when Nehal Wadhera stepped in and changed the game with a fiery knock. Wadhera smashed 33 runs off just 19 deliveries, laced with three boundaries and three towering sixes, effectively sealing the match for Punjab Kings. From the Royal Challengers’ bowling lineup, Hazlewood was the standout performer with 3 wickets for just 14 runs in his three overs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with 2 wickets for 26 runs. Despite their efforts, Punjab's middle-order power proved too strong in the end.
