The T20I opening batter of the Pakistan side, Sahibzada Farhan, was caught smiling and clapping after he heard obscene remarks on India’s premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, during the third T20I of the three-match series against South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. He shared a fierce battle with the pacer during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025.

Farhan became the first and only batter to nail the Ahmedabad-born pacer for three sixes in a T20I. Across the match-up, the right-handed batter has taken India's Bumrah to the cleaners for 51 runs in 34 balls, including six boundaries and three over boundaries. The opener was also the first batter of the Pakistan side to hit a six off Bumrah in international cricket.

A video has gone viral on social media platforms, showing Farhan enjoying the explicit chants by one of the home fans against Bumrah. The fans were chanting ‘Bumrah ke abbu (Bumrah’s father), putting the camera towards the pacer, and it appeared that the opener was clearly enjoying the derogatory comments.

The third and final T20I between Pakistan and South Africa was the series decider in Lahore after the visitors won the opening game comfortably before the hosts made a strong comeback in the second clash. The Rainbow Nation, however, continued their poor show with the bat even in the third fixture.

South Africa lost both Quinton de Kock and Lhuan-dre-Pretorious for ducks in three balls of the opening batter. Reeza Hendricks slammed 34 runs but at a strike rate of below 100 with the help of two boundaries. Their captain provided the fire in the middle order with 29 runs in 14 balls at a strike rate of 207.14, smashing three over boundaries and one four. Corbin Bosch remained undefeated on 30 runs to push them to 139/9.

Babar Azam was the main batter in the middle during the chase for Pakistan as he creamed a fine knock of 68 runs in 47 balls at a strike rate of 144.68, while Salman Agha nailed 33 runs to complete the chase by four wickets to seal the series by 2-1.

Another 'Gunfire Celebration' from a Pakistani batter after scoring a hundred. Experienced Pakistan batter Mohammed Rizwan was on the non-striker's end when his batting partner did the 'Gunfire Celebration.'

After Sahibzada Farhan, it is now Mohmmad Haris who has recently caught cricket fans' attention not only for batting reasons but also for manifesting expression through a 'Gunfire Celebration' after scoring a hundred during Pakistan's Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26. The Peshawar Cricket Team survived the early blows for their two centurions against the Sialkot Stallions. Experienced Rizwan is the leader of the team, who scored the first hundred of the match and helped his team to bounce back. Haris joined the captain in the middle after the fall of their 5th wicket.

When Haris completed his century, Rizwan was unbeaten for 123 off 203 deliveries. Haris took 113 deliveries to touch the hundred-run milestone. The right-handed batter guided the ball towards the square leg for a single and completed the century. At first, his celebration was looking normal, throwing arms in the air, with a smile on his face, and he received greetings from the batting partner as well. Then, in a moment, Haris held his bat like a gun and pointed at someone.

Where does the 'Gunfire Celebration' come from?

Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan's gesture after scoring a half-century against India during the Asia Cup 2025 created a lot of controversies. During the Super Four match of the tournament, the Pakistan opener displayed the 'Gunfire Celebration.' This celebration came just months after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 innocent Indian tourists were killed.

Cricket fans strongly criticized the gesture of the batsman. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lodged a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in protest. ICC match referee Richie Richardson gave a warning to the Pakistan opener.

Sahibzada Farhan hit a huge six against ace India spinner Kuldeep Yadav. The Pakistan opener played a well-controlled fifty-plus runs in the final of the 2025 Asia Cup against India at Dubai International Stadium.

Before losing the scalp against Varun Chakravarthy, Farhan scored 57 against 38 balls. His innings was laced with five boundaries and three over-boundaries. One of the three over-boundaries was against Yadav; during the last ball of the 7th ball of the first innings, the right-handed batter hoisted the ball for a maximum.

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to bowl first. Usually, the surface of the Dubai International Stadium is suitable for a run chase in the second innings. And India, throughout the Asia Cup 2025, performed brilliantly while batting in the second innings.

Farhan's massive 6 vs Kuldeep Yadav

When India and Pakistan met twice before in the tournament, Men in Blue won those matches with ease. But a final is always a different caliber contest, where anything can reflect on the scorecard.

Proving many critics wrong, Pakistan started the first innings in an intense manner. For today's match, Farhan and Fakhar Zaman came to open the innings, and they scored 84 runs together in the first wicket. Both the batters played in attacking mode after watching the first few overs. During the last over of the 7th of the first innings, Farhan went deep into the crease and clubbed the ball over the deep square leg for a big six. 11 runs came from that over. Yadav pitched the middle in the middle of the pitch, a little bit short and towards the leg stump. The batter got plenty of time to adjust and made a charge on the ball.

The Asia Cup 2025 Finals begun between India and Pakistan, with a brisk start from the openers for Pakistan. Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan started the innings on strong footing as both teams are trying to take the early initiative in a match that promises high drama between these two arch-rivals in Dubai.

At the 9.4-over mark, Varun Chakravarthy provided a significant breakthrough for India by getting rid of Sahibzada Farhan. Farhan had been aggressive from the outset and had made 57 runs off 38 balls with plenty of boundaries. He attempted to pull a googly pitched outside off, but got is wrong and was caught by Tilak Varma at deep mid-wicket, it ended an 84-run partnership. The wicket gave India a grip on the game ahead of the drinks break.

Farhan's attacking innings had built a really strong platform for Pakistan, but his dismissal was a key breakthrough and changed the momentum a little towards India. Saim Ayub was joined at the crease by Fakhar Zaman and opened his account with a single run. Fakhar continued to play the anchor role, while India hoped to capitalize on this important breakthrough.

Live Score Update:

Pakistan is at 113/1 after 12.4 overs, with Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub at the crease. The innings has started brightly for Pakistan, but India will be looking to use this breakthrough to get control of the run rate. The momentum of the match is still fairly even as both teams contest for the title in this high stakes final.

<![CDATA[ICC likely to penalise Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for controversial gestures vs IND in Asia Cup 2025: Report]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/icc-likely-to-penalise-haris-rauf-and-sahibzada-farhan-for-controversial-gestures-vs-ind-in-asia-cup-2025-report/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/icc-likely-to-penalise-haris-rauf-and-sahibzada-farhan-for-controversial-gestures-vs-ind-in-asia-cup-2025-report/ Fri, 26 Sep 2025 19:18:45 GMT

The International Cricket Council, could take action against Sahibzada Farhan and Haris Rauf of Pakistan for their gestures in the Asia Cup 2025 match against India. The ICC summoned both players after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) submitted an official complaint. This came after a match between bitter rivals packed with tension on and off the field.

India dominated the matches, off-field actions also grabbed attention. Reportedly, the Indian team and captain Suryakumar Yadav, specifically, did not shake hands with Pakistan. In response, some Pakistani players, especially Rauf and Farhan, performed gestures that were seen as politically influenced. These acts sparked discussions and brought the matter to the ICC’s notice.

Sahibzada Farhan performed the “Bazooka” celebration, which some people thought was a political jab at India. However, Farhan told the ICC that there was no political intention. He explained that even Indian players like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have done similar celebrations in the past.

ICC Sanctions and Updates

Journalist Nikhil Naz reported that Farhan might lose 50 to 100 per cent of his match fees as punishment. Haris Rauf, who mocked Indian fans by referring to unverified Pakistan Air Force claims of downing six Indian jets, could face a similar penalty. But neither player is expected to be suspended.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav could also face a penalty of 15 per cent of his match fees for his comments about the Pahalgam terror attack after the India-Pakistan group-stage clash. Despite all the off-field controversies, both teams are now focusing on the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28.

Update: According to PTI, the ICC has classified the incident as a level 1 offence. Haris Rauf has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for abusive gestures, while Sahibzada Farhan received only a warning.

Pakistan and Bangladesh clash in a do-or-die Super Four fixture of Asia Cup 2025 at Dubai. Both teams have been inconsistent to this point and must secure victory here to guarantee their spot in the final. Pakistan kicked off their Super Four campaign with yet another disappointing defeat to India. They recovered with a solid victory over Sri Lanka and now need to beat Bangladesh to book their place in the final.

On the other hand, Bangladesh have appeared disciplined and organized throughout this Asia Cup campaign. They reached the Super Fours by winning two from three matches, and then maintained that form by defeating Sri Lanka by four wickets in their first game of the second phase.

Pakistan’s veteran pacer, Haris Rauf, and their young opening batter, Sahibzada Farhan, became talking points from the last Super 4 fixture between India and Pakistan from the 2025 season of the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with their provocative gestures, which took social media on fire.

Farhan pulled out the gun and made a celebration of shooting the bullets after he celebrated his half-century against the Suryakumar Yadav-led side. However, his milestone was the main reason for his downfall as he ended with 58 runs in 45 balls at a strike rate of under 130. On the other hand, Rauf, who was standing on the edge of the boundary, showed the 6-0 gesture towards the crowd.

The pacer also had a heated exchange with the two Indian opening batters, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, after the latter smashed him for a boundary during the second innings. Even though he had a decent game with the ball to take the wicket of Sanju Samson, the result didn’t go Pakistan’s way as the Suryakumar Yadav-led side chased down the target by six wickets.

India file strict action against Pakistan players after Super 4 clash in Asia Cup 2025

India has filed an official complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and demanded strict action against the two players. Even their assistant coach, Ryan Ten Doeschate, shared his view on the two gestures.

“Let me just say, the amount of pressure that's been heaped on the players because of the situation, it's very difficult to control their behaviour. I did see some of the things Haris did, and, you know, that's not our concern. Like I said earlier, we're really proud of how the guys carried themselves, you know, they were on fire with their bats on the field.” Ten Doeschate expressed in the pre-match press conference against Bangladesh.

Thanks to their superb win, India qualify for the final of the Asia Cup 2025. They will lock horns with the winner of the Pakistan and Bangladesh side in the final, which is scheduled to take place on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash between India and Pakistan last Sunday became more than just a cricket match, with attention shifting beyond runs and wickets. On-field gestures by Pakistan players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan sparked widespread reactions on social media, drawing criticism from fans and cricket analysts alike. Many viewed the actions as immature and unnecessary, highlighting how player conduct is closely scrutinized in high-profile matches.

Ahead of Pakistan’s final Super 4 game against Bangladesh, attention remained on the previous incident. Reporters sought comments from Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi regarding his teammates’ controversial on-field behaviour. The queries reflected the broader discussion around sportsmanship and discipline in international cricket, particularly during matches with heightened emotions like India vs Pakistan encounters.

Afridi’s response was highly anticipated, as it offered a chance to address the criticism and provide clarity on the team’s stance. The incident underscored how player gestures can quickly become talking points, sometimes overshadowing performances on the field.

Shaheen Afridi on his Teammates’ Controversial Behaviour:

On Wednesday, Shaheen Afridi spoke to the media, acknowledging that on-field celebrations shouldn’t overshadow the team’s primary focus: playing cricket. Responding to questions about the backlash faced by Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for their actions against India, he emphasized that performance, not gestures, should remain the priority.

He said, “ Look, our job is to play cricket. Honestly, everyone has the right to express the way they want to.” Shaheen sought to minimize the controversy surrounding Pakistan’s on-field conduct, stating that the reactions were overblown and that the team’s main focus should remain on playing the game effectively. He further said, “ Everyone has their own thoughts.”

He added, “ Everyone has their own respect. Everyone thinks the way they think. But our job is to play cricket. And we have come to win the tri-nation Series. We have come to win the Asia Cup. And we, God willing, as a team, are doing our best.”

Shaheen Expresses Team’s Confidence and Their Goal:

Pakistan has already lost back-to-back matches against India in the ongoing Asia Cup. The two sides could face each other once more in the tournament final on September 28. While the finalists are yet to be confirmed, Shaheen Afridi expressed confidence that his team can turn the tables and secure a victory over India if they clash in the title-deciding match this Sunday.

He further said, “ They have not reached the final yet. We will see when they reach the final. We have come here to win the final and win the Asia Cup. We are ready for any team that comes. We will defeat them.”

Shaheen Afridi also acknowledged that Pakistan has struggled to secure wins against strong opponents in recent times. However, he emphasized that the team is determined to improve their record and deliver stronger performances in future matches, showing resilience and a clear focus on reversing past setbacks.

He concluded, “ Yes, we haven't won against big teams. You can say that we have grown in the rankings. But when you play against big teams, you win. The teams that are coming now, we are competing against them.”

The Super Fours encounter between India and Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025 on September 21 turned into more than a contest of bat and ball after Pakistan's Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan raised eyebrows with their routines on the field. Several fans and analysts criticized the two players for what was classed as childish and inept behaviour during the match.

Ahead of Pakistan’s final Super Four fixture against Bangladesh, pacer Shaheen Afridi was questioned about the gestures made by Rauf and Farhan. Afridi said the celebrations should not divert the team from the primary focus of playing cricket. He moved on from the debacle, emphasizing everyone will have an opinion.

“Look, our job is to play cricket. Honestly, everyone has the right to express the way they want to. Everyone has their own respect. Everyone thinks the way they think. But our job is to play cricket. And we have come to win the tri-nation Series. We have come to win the Asia Cup. And we, God willing, as a team, are doing our best,” Afridi said, as quoted by NDTV Sports.

Afridi Confident Despite Recent Struggles

While the finalists of the tournament are yet to be confirmed, Afridi expressed confidence that Pakistan can overcome India if they meet in the final on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. He acknowledged the team’s struggles against top-ranked sides in recent times but emphasized that the players are determined to change that narrative.

Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan played a crucial innings in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash against India on Sunday, guiding his side to a competitive total of 171. At a time when wickets kept falling, he showed composure and stability, holding the innings together. Farhan scored a well-constructed 58 from 45 deliveries before being dismissed by India’s all-rounder Shivam Dube.

While his half-century provided Pakistan with a much-needed platform, it was not just the runs that caught everyone’s attention. The real buzz began after he reached his fifty and marked the moment with a unique celebration. Farhan raised eyebrows by performing a ‘gun gesture’ after completing the milestone, instantly sparking conversations on social media.

The gesture left fans divided, with many surprised by the display in such a high-pressure match. Some praised the confidence shown by the opener, while others criticised the celebration, calling it unnecessary in a competitive India-Pakistan encounter.

Sahibzada Farhan Talks About his Celebration:

At a press conference on Monday, ahead of Pakistan’s second Super 4 clash against Sri Lanka, Sahibzada Farhan was questioned about his celebration in the India match. The 29-year-old confidently stated that he wasn’t concerned about others’ opinions, explaining he chose to celebrate in a way that felt right to him, regardless of outside reactions.

He said, “ I think, if you talk about the sixes, you will see that (a lot) in the future. And that (celebration) was just a moment at that time. I do not do a lot of celebrations after scoring 50. But, it suddenly came to my mind that let's do a celebration today. I did that. I don't know how people will take it.”

He further said, “ I don't care about that. And the rest, you know, you should play aggressive cricket wherever you play. It is not necessary that it is India. You should play aggressive cricket against every team, like we played today.”

Sahibzada Farhan also Talks About Pakistan’s Road Ahead:

When discussing Pakistan’s approach for the upcoming clash against Sri Lanka, Sahibzada Farhan admitted that early wickets in the powerplay had hurt the team in previous games. He stressed the need to improve their start by preserving wickets while also ensuring they score consistently in the opening six overs to set a solid platform.

He added, “ I think in the last few matches what was missing was that we were not utilising powerplays well. We were giving early wickets. It is important to use the powerplays well and also not give away wickets.”

He concluded, “ The way we played in powerplays today, we did not give away early on wickets. God willing, our powerplay was also very good as we scored 90 something runs in 10 overs. We did collapse in the middle but we will rectify it.”
