India Women pulled off a stunning five-wicket win over defending champions Australia in the second semifinal of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Jemimah Rodrigues played a brilliant unbeaten innings to lead India’s record chase of 339 runs and take them into the final against South Africa. It was one of the most significant victories in the Women's World Cup, breaking Australia's hold on the tournament in great fashion.

Australia, after winning the toss, opted to bat first, posting an outstanding total of 338 in 49.5 overs. Phoebe Litchfield scored a brilliant 119 off of 93 balls with 17 fours and 3 sixes. Ellyse Perry added 77, while Ashleigh Gardner smashed a quick 63, but India’s bowlers fought back in the final overs with Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma taking two wickets each.

Chasing 339, India lost openers Shafali Verma (10) and Smriti Mandhana (24) early to Kim Garth, leaving them under pressure. But Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur led India’s fightback with a strong 167-run stand for the third wicket. Harmanpreet scored 89 off 88 balls, while Rodrigues stayed calm till the end with an unbeaten 127 from 134 balls.

Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh added useful runs in the closing overs before Amanjot Kaur hit the winning boundary. India chased down the target with nine balls to spare, registering the highest-ever successful chase in Women’s World Cup history. The victory sent India to the final and ended Australia’s dream of another title. Below are the main reasons for the Australia Women's defeat:

1. Dropped Catches Off Jemimah Rodrigues

During India's chase, Australia's fielders dropped important catches of Jemimah Rodrigues, including by Alyssa Healy when she was on 95. Of course, she went on to bat even deeper into the innings and guided India to victory. The dropped chances proved costly in the semifinal situation.

2. Record-Breaking Indian Batting Partnership

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur built a record 167-run pairing, which changed the game for India. They were calm and rotated the strike smartly to disrupt the Australian bowlers. When Kaur eventually got out, India were in complete control of the chase.

3. Costly Extras and Poor Bowling Discipline

Australia has conceded 25 additional runs, which allowed India to keep their scoring rate without taking any chances. Their bowlers could not sustain that pressure, bowling wides or no-balls at important junctures. These errors made the historic chase much easier for India to complete.

India Women vs Australia Women match in the second Semi-final of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 started in great fashion, where the Aussie skipper Alyssa Healy made a comeback from the injury. Harmanpreet Kaur dropped Alyssa Healy

Australia Women won the toss in the second Semi-final on Thursday (October 30) and chose to bat first at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The initial overs of the match delivered some great moments. In the third over of the match, Alyssa Healy provided a good chance for the hosts in Renuka Singh's over, but the Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur dropped the chance at mid-off. Everyone knew how cruel it could be while Healy was struggling to find her touch on her comeback.

Kranti Gaud dismissed Alyssa Healy

At the end of the fifth over, the clouds dominated the ground, while rain started, and the on-field umpires took little time before beginning the next over in the rain, as it was the delay from the floodlights, which required them to be completely on. While Gaud continued her spell, she dismissed Healy on the first delivery of that over, as Healy chopped on her wicket. Healy was dismissed for only five runs after facing 15 balls. Out of their five meetings in the WODI, Gaud dismissed Healy four times.

South Africa Women are waiting for an opponent for the Final, which DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will host on Sunday (November 2), as the winners between India Women and Australia Women in the ongoing second Semi-final will meet the Proteas in the Final.

The match that was held at Edgbaston, Birmingham, went down to the last ball. Both sides led emphatically; however, South Africa was able to hang on at the end. With this win, they have entered the final to play against the Pakistan Champions.

South Africa Champions Innings

South Africa captain Aaron Phangiso decided to take batting first, and the innings was dominated by very powerful innings of Morne van Wyk and JJ Smuts. The openers were smashing every ball, with van Wyk hitting 76 from just 35 deliveries, full of aggressive stroke play. Smuts was a perfect partner to him, scoring a well-paced 57 from 41 balls. On the other hand, a collapse at the end of the innings saw South Africa drop from a strong position to 186/8 in 20 overs, losing five wickets in the last two overs. Peter Siddle was very good with the ball, finishing with figures of 4/30 in 4 overs. D'Arcy Short (2/32) and Brett Lee (1/24) gave him good support and started the collapse of the last innings.

Australia Champions Innings

Wayne Parnell (2/33), Hardus Viljoen (2/41), and Duanne Olivier (1/14 in 2 overs) made sure that there were no boundaries at the critical times. Australia needed 10 from the last over, but they could only manage 8 runs and ended up with 185/7, just short of the target.

The high-voltage semi-final match between arch-rivals India Champions and Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 has been officially called off. The statement was made on Wednesday, confirming that Pakistan will go directly to the final. The decision was made after India's withdrawal from the fixture due to the recent events.

In an official statement, the WCL organizers said, "We respect the India Champions' decision to withdraw from the semi-finals, and we equally respect the Pakistan Champions' readiness to compete. Taking all factors into consideration, the match between the India Champions and the Pakistan Champions has been called off.
As a result, Pakistan Champions will advance to the final." Pakistan will now face the winner of the second semi-final between the South Africa Champions and Australia Champions.

Earlier, it was reported that the Yuvraj Singh-led India Champions refused to play the semi-final in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed several innocent lives.
India had already boycotted their group-stage match against Pakistan earlier in the tournament, taking a consistent stand. The team, which includes legends like Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, and Yusuf Pathan, unanimously supported the decision.

“India ke liye kuch bhi”

An insider from the Indian camp said on condition of anonymity, "We are not playing against Pakistan. Our country and nation will always be at the top for us, and then anything. India ke liye kuch bhi. We are proud members of the Indian team. We have struggled and worked hard to put the Indian flag on our shirts, and we earned it. We will never let our country down, no matter what. Bharat Mata ki jai."

As the India Champions are standing firm on their national values, the defending champions are out of the WCL 2025 final. Their withdrawal is not only a powerful statement in sport; it is also a sign of their solidarity with their homeland at a time of national grief.
