Major League Cricket is getting a lot of attention as the tournament is getting exciting with every passing season. The 2025 season witnessed some entertaining contests. The tournament witnessed some brilliant individual performances from some of the best performers in T20 Cricket from across the globe. These batters batted with aggression, hitting some powerful shots, putting pressure on the opposition bowlers. The batters mentioned in the list possess different skill sets and techniques when it comes to their stroke play, but they entertained the crowds in a big way and also accelerated their strike rates, thus playing a key role for their respective sides. In Match 22 of the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season, Seattle Orcas mounted an impressive chase against San Francisco Unicorns at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill. The Seattle Orcas have finally been able to crack the winning formula, thanks to a late resurgence of form, primarily driven by Shimron Hetmyer's exploits with the bat. Cricket experts had completely written them off when the Orcas suffered their fifth consecutive defeat and were almost nearing an early exit from the tournament. But the team saw a remarkable turn of fortune in their last three encounters, winning all three of them convincingly, with Hetmyer at the helm.

The West Indian dynamite played a pivotal role in helping the Orcas orchestrate three back-to-back wins. Hetmyer carried his team on his shoulders and smashed match-winning knocks of 97 (40), 64 (26), and 78* (37) to convincingly roll over MINY, LAKR, and SFU, respectively. On the back of his match-winning contributions in three back-to-back fixtures, SEO now have an outside chance of leaving behind LAKR and MINY in the playoff race once and for all.

A look at Hetmyer's match-winning contributions this season

At a time when SEO were down and were starting at their sixth consecutive defeat, Hetmyer defied all odds and snatched an unbelievable win from MINY on the last ball of the match. In their pursuit of a massive target of 238, SEO kept losing wickets, but Hetmyer stayed resilient and did the bulk of the heavy lifting to keep his side alive. The game went down to the last ball when one big hit was needed from Hetmyer to seal the deal. Miraculously, he pulled it off by tonking Pollard over deep fine leg for a massive six, powering SEO to their highest run chase in the MLC. He remained unbeaten on 97 in that match.

Moving on to the LAKR clash, Hetmyer once again came good when it mattered the most. SEO managed to prevail in yet another high-scoring thriller courtesy of Hetmyer's blazing 64* (26). Needing a target of 203, SEO got themselves into a bit of a tangle as Mayers struggled with timing towards the backend. The game went all the way down to the wire when five of six were needed. With Mayers struggling, the pressure crept up, and it seemed SEO would throw it away. But Hetmyer was able to bring himself on strike, and when he did, he wasted no time in finishing it off with a maximum to ensure no further hiccups.

Hetmyer's stellar show continued for the third time in a row against the table-toppers SFU. Batting on a tricky surface, SEO did not get off to an ideal start and were already behind in the race too soon, thanks to the excessive consumption of dot balls at the start of the run chase. Just when it looked like all hope was lost, Hetmyer stood tall once more and, almost single-handedly, dragged his team across the finish line (with a little bit of luck, of course!). The Guyanese batter turned the tide in his team's favor by launching a barrage of boundaries and sixes. He finished with a mammoth contribution of 78* (37) and bagged the third POTM award in the process.

Hetmyer has single-handedly revived his team's chances of making it to the playoffs on the back of three consecutive match-winning performances. He now has three POTM awards and would be eyeing his fourth award on the trot when SEO faces WF in their next encounter on July 5.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] MLC 2025: Shimron Hetmyer last-ball six seals thrilling victory for Seattle Orcas over MI New York]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-mlc-2025-shimron-hetmyer-last-ball-six-seals-thrilling-victory-for-seattle-orcas-over-mi-new-york/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-mlc-2025-shimron-hetmyer-last-ball-six-seals-thrilling-victory-for-seattle-orcas-over-mi-new-york/ Sat, 28 Jun 2025 12:00:24 GMT

Shimron Hetmyer finished the match with a flourish as the Seattle Orcas sealed a three-wicket victory over MI New York in their MLC 2025 match, earning their first win of the season. Chasing 238, the match came down to the last ball. With six needed off one, Hetmyer, despite limping, shuffled across and launched Kieron Pollard over fine leg for a six, sealing a memorable win and ending a five-match losing streak.

Seattle started their chase with great intent. Kyle Mayers (37) and new captain Sikandar Raza (30 off 9) fired in the PowerPlay to take Orcas to 86/3 in six overs.
Even with wickets falling, Heinrich Klaasen (26) and Hetmyer kept batting. Hetmyer laid the platform with an unbeaten 97 off 45 balls, hitting aggressively and calmly leading the chase. Gerald Coetzee also contributed with a few important blows. The Orcas needed 60 off the last five overs and eventually brought it down to 9 off 6, with Hetmyer finishing the job in dramatic fashion.

Earlier, MI New York had posted 237/4, thanks to a 158-run stand between captain Nicholas Pooran and Tajinder Dhillon. Pooran remained unbeaten on 108 off 60 balls, while Dhillon smashed 95 off just 35 with eight fours and eight sixes.
The pair dominated a struggling Seattle bowling attack, with Cameron Gannon and Raza going for over 50 each. However, Seattle restricted MI New York to just 19 runs in the final three overs to keep themselves in the hunt.

Orcas Snap Losing Streak in Historic Chase

Despite the pressure of five successive defeats, the Orcas made sweeping changes before the game, sacking coach Matthew Mott and handing captaincy duties to Sikandar Raza. Those decisions bore fruit as Seattle pulled off the highest successful chase in MLC history. After being left with 60 to get from the last five overs, Hetmyer and Gerald Coetzee went on the attack, with Hetmyer particularly targeting Ehsan Adil and Delano Potgieter in the death overs.

Even as MI NY bowlers, especially Trent Boult and Rushil Ugarkar, kept applying pressure, Hetmyer’s clarity at the death helped Orcas inch closer. The penultimate over saw Hetmyer smashing Adil for three sixes, bringing the equation to 9 off 6. With Pollard executing his variations brilliantly, it came down to 6 off the final ball, but Hetmyer’s last swipe changed everything. It was a match that saw heroics from both sides, but in the end, Hetmyer's six became the defining moment of the night.
