The 2025 season of the ACC Men’s U-19 Asia Cup begins in Dubai at the ICC Academy Ground, where India faced the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the opening clash, while on the other hand, Pakistan locked horns with Malaysia at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai. The upcoming sensational opening batter, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, celebrated a fine century to light up the stage.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi finished with 171 runs in just 95 balls at a strike rate of 180, scoring nine boundaries and 14 over boundaries. India fired their way to 311/3 in 40 overs as the number three batter, Aaron George, clubbed 69 runs in 73 balls at a strike rate of 94.52.

List of players with 150+ in single innings during U-19 Men’s Asia Cup

5. Aryan Saxena (UAE)

The game took place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium during the Under-19 Asia Cup by the Asian Cricket Council between Japan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Aryan Saxena, the opener of the home side, slammed a fine knock of 150 runs in just 120 balls at a strike rate of 125 with the help of 16 boundaries and seven sixes. He put up a fine opening stand of 213 runs with Akshat Rai, who smashed 53 runs.

Their captain, Aayan Khan, nailed 45 runs in 33 balls as they ended with 325 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets. In reply, Japan got bundled out for just 52 in 24.1 overs as only two of their batters made it into double figures. UAE clinched the victory by 273 runs.

4. Shahzaib Khan (Pakistan)

From the same competition, it was the clash between the two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Batted first, Pakistan’s opener, Shahzaib Khan, nailed 159 runs in 147 balls at a strike rate of 108.16, thanks to five boundaries and 16 sixes. He also decorated a 160-run opening stand with Usman Khan, who blasted 60 runs in 94 balls.

In the 282-run chase, the Indian side was bundled out for 238 runs, with only Nikhil Kumar getting 67 runs. The other batters got their starts but were not able to convert them into a big score. The Saad Baig-led side claimed the win by 43 runs.

3. Vaibhav Suryavanshi (India)

Vaibhav Suryavanshi ended with 171 runs in the clash against the United Arab Emirates. On the opening game of the U-19 Asia Cup in Dubai, the southpaw creamed the knock despite them losing their captain, Ayush Mhatre, in the third over of the first innings. UAE bowled well at patches, but once the Bihar batter got a few balls out of the middle of his blade, there was no respite for the bowlers.

Suryavanshi, heading into the event, didn’t enjoy a great run in the 50-over format with just 132 runs in six innings at an average of 22, thanks to one half-century. However, this century will be a massive confidence booster for the 14-year-old moving into the future.

2. Meet Bhavsar (Kuwait)

During the 2021 Asia Cup at the U-19 stage, Nepal posted a strong score of 239 runs in their 42.3 overs with Bibek Magar and Basir Ahmed celebrating their respective half-centuries with the bat. Meanwhile, Mohammad Alam smashed 49 runs in 42 balls at a strike rate of 116.66 with the help of two fours and five sixes.

Kuwait were never in the chase as they kept losing wickets from one end with their captain, Meet Bhavsar, seeking others to at least hold their crease. But he slammed an unbeaten knock of 175 runs in 149 balls at a strike rate of 117.44 with 24 boundaries and one six to take them over the line by one wicket with seven balls to spare.

1.Soumya Sarkar (Bangladesh)

It was the Asia Cup of the 2012 season, which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Bangladesh faced Qatar in the clash as the opening batter of the Bangladesh side, Soumya Sarkar, played a fabulous knock of 209 runs in 135 balls at a strike rate of 154.81 with the help of 27 boundaries and eight sixes. That remains the only double century of the U-19 ODIs.

In reply to Bangladesh’s massive score of 363 runs, Qatar got bundled out for 35 runs. Abu Hider Rony ended with magical figures of 9/10 in 5.4 overs at an economy rate of 1.76. Bangladesh pocketed the victory by 328 runs.

The defending champions, Rangpur Riders, have officially announced their squad for the upcoming 2025 ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL), set to be held at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence from 10 to 18 July. As titleholders, the Riders will return to Caribbean shores looking to replicate their dramatic title run from last year and retain their crown.

In the 2024 season, Rangpur Riders turned it around with a grand flourish—beginning with three straight losses followed by three consecutive victories to capture the title. Their gritty fightback, which was fueled by good leadership, an attacking bowling pack, and aggressive top-order hitting, endeared them to fans and entrenched themselves in GSL lore.

With one of the best records in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for consistency, the Riders arrive with a history of high-quality cricket. BPL champions in 2017 and constant playoff hopefuls ever since, Rangpur continues to show us the characteristics of will and reserve that define quality T20 franchises.

Star Power and Strategic Depth

The Riders have kept the mainstay of their 2024 championship team intact. Wicket-keeper captain Nurul Hasan comes back to captain the team, accompanied by top scorer of the tournament Soumya Sarkar and pace head Kamrul Islam Rabbi. They are supported by a combination of local heroics in Mohammed Naim Sheikh, Yasir Ali, and Abu Haider Rony, each of whom contributes crucial domestic and international experience.

<![CDATA[[Watch]Controversial moment: 3rd umpire rules Soumya Sarkar not out despite ultraEdge spike in Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka match]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watchcontroversial-moment-3rd-umpire-rules-soumya-sarkar-not-out-despite-ultraedge-spike-in-bangladesh-vs-sri-lanka-match/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watchcontroversial-moment-3rd-umpire-rules-soumya-sarkar-not-out-despite-ultraedge-spike-in-bangladesh-vs-sri-lanka-match/ Wed, 06 Mar 2024 22:45:56 GMT

The Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka cricket match sparks yet another controversy, offering fans an eventful spectacle. The ongoing second T20I of the three-match series unfolds at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.

In a pivotal moment during the second innings, Sri Lanka finds themselves in turmoil. On the first delivery of the fourth over, Binura Fernando delivers a skiddy back-of-a-length ball, angling in from around off. Soumya Sarkar attempts a pull shot but fails to make contact.

The DRS Drama: Sarkar’s Controversial Decision Keeps Sri Lanka on Edge

A distinct sound accompanies the ball’s passage to Kusal Mendis, prompting the Sri Lankan team’s appeal and the umpire’s decision to give it out. However, Sarkar vehemently denies making contact and opts for the DRS after consulting his partner, Litton Das.

Upon review by the third umpire, replays indicate a spike. Nevertheless, the official determines there’s a discernible gap between bat and ball. The umpire concludes that the spike occurs post-ball passage, contradicting the Sri Lankan players’ discontent.

Sri Lanka’s Head Coach, Chris Silverwood, expressed intense frustration with the third umpire’s decision. Players like Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Charith Asalanka, and others surrounded the on-field umpires, engaging in lively discussions with visible animation.

Adding insult to injury for Sri Lanka, Soumya Sarkar swiftly followed up with a boundary on the subsequent delivery. The left-handed batsman played a crucial role at the top of the order, spearheading Bangladesh’s valiant pursuit of 166 runs.

Partnering with Litton Das, Sarkar amassed 68 runs for the opening stand, applying relentless pressure on Sri Lanka from the outset. Sarkar contributed 26 runs off 22 balls, while Das ended his innings with a commendable 36 runs off 24 deliveries.

Bangladesh Clinches Victory in Second T20I Against Sri Lanka, Leveling the Series

Following a strong start by Soumya Sarkar and Litton Das, Matheesha Pathirana’s performance for Sri Lanka injected new life into the game. Removing both openers within two overs, he reignited hopes for Sri Lankan fans.

However, the new skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto (53), and Towhid Hridoy (32), showcased exceptional prowess, steering Bangladesh towards victory. The pair formed an unbroken 87-run partnership, securing an eight-wicket win with two overs to spare. This result leveled the series 1-1, with one match remaining.

In the first innings, Sri Lanka amassed a total of 165 runs on the scoreboard. Kusal Mendis (36) and Kamindu Mendis (37) provided a solid foundation at the top. Following their dismissals, Charith Asalanka (28), Angelo Mathews (32), and Dasun Shanaka (20) made valuable contributions, propelling the team beyond the 160-run mark.

<![CDATA[Soumya Sarkar and Shoriful Islam added to Bangladesh T20 World Cup squad]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/soumya-sarkar-and-shoriful-islam-added-to-bangladesh-t20-world-cup-squad/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/soumya-sarkar-and-shoriful-islam-added-to-bangladesh-t20-world-cup-squad/ Sat, 15 Oct 2022 07:23:08 GMT

Bangladesh have brought in Soumya Sarkar and Shoriful Islam to replace Mohammad Saifuddin and Sabbir Rahman in their T20 World Cup squad. All four members were part of the team that played the recently concluded tri-series in New Zealand, and although Bangladesh lost all four matches, their technical consultant Sridharan Sriram insisted that there were positives.

Soumya and Shoriful’s inclusions in the T20 World Cup squad seemed on the cards given their performance was marginally better than the other two who will now make their way back home from Christchurch. Soumya’s scores of 23 and 4 were enough for a team management, that includes Sriram, team director Khaled Mahmud and captain Shakib Al Hasan, to pick him. Soumya hadn’t been picked for Bangladesh in any format since a poor outing in last year’s T20 World Cup. He made 164 runs at a strike rate of 109.33 in last season’s BPL during this break.

Bangladesh added 2 players as they have to sacrifice few due to injury

Bangladesh have also sacrificed the only pace-bowling allrounder they had in the squad, axing Saifuddin who has not been able to live up to his potential since his comeback in the Asia Cup in late August. Shoriful steps into his place, even though he hasn’t set the world alight in his last few T20I appearances. He will partner another fast bowler who has been enduring a dip in form, Mustafizur Rahman.

Bangladesh head to Brisbane on Saturday where they will face Afghanistan (October 17) and South Africa (October 19) in two warm-up games. Their T20 World Cup campaign begins with a match against one of the first-round qualifiers in Hobart on October 24.
