In Match 68 of IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emphatically defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 110 runs, and the game was played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. After winning the toss, SRH chose to bat first and scored an extraordinary 278/3, one of the highest ever totals in IPL history! Heinrich Klaasen had a remarkable evening; his innings of 105 off 39 balls* included 8 fours and 9 sixes. Making significant contributions were Travis Head (76/40) and Abhishek Sharma (32/16), who helped manage the run rate and keep scoring in check! KKR's bowlers had no answers to SRH's onslaught, and their best bowlers were also taken down.

KKR's chase fell apart early, with early wickets damaging momentum, and captain Ajinkya Rahane was unable to play the anchor role his side depended upon.   KKR's middle order was completely under pressure with a huge target to chase, and even though Manish Pandey (37 off 23), Sunil Narine (31 off 16), and Harshit Rana (34 off 21) had quick contributions, KKR was never in the game and totally capitulated for a paltry 168 runs in 18.4 overs.

The SRH bowling group supported their onslaught of a total with discipline and aggression. Jaydev Unadkat (3/24), Eshan Malinga (3/31), and Harsh Dubey (3/34) shared the wickets and prevented KKR from building any momentum. This emphatic victory sealed the final of their campaign, while KKR ended their campaign in a disappointing fashion.

1. Inability to Contain SRH’s Explosive Batting

SRH's top order, particularly Heinrich Klaasen’s 105* (39) and Travis Head’s 76 (40), butchered KKR’s bowling attack. KKR's bowlers did not execute their plans, not even senior Andre Russell keeping his economy under control, going for 34 in two overs. KKR had no answers for SRH’s fight, leading them to a mammoth 278/3, which is in the top ten highest team totals in IPL history.

2. Poor Execution of Bowling Plans

Ajinkya Rahane stated that the KKR bowlers did not bowl their variations well. The wider yorkers and slower balls pitched too wide and too full allowed SRH batters to punish them. The bowlers did not maintain a good and disciplined line and length, particularly in the death overs, which inflated the score towards an unreachable landmark.

3. Weak Response with the Bat Under Pressure

Chasing a near-impossible target, KKR started woefully, losing wickets on the regular. Only Manish Pandey (37), Harshit Rana (34), and Sunil Narine (31) helped enough resistance as the rest of the lineup succumbed to scoreboard pressure, not able to stitch together any partnerships to stabilize the innings, leading to their collapse at 168 in 18.4 overs.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) crushed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 68 of IPL 2025 with a crushing 110-run victory. SRH batted first and scored a monstrous 278/3 in 20 overs, which is one of the highest scores in IPL history. KKR made a mess of the chase and were bowled out for 168 runs in 18.4 overs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings

Sunrisers Hyderabad came out with guns blazing and scored 278/3 in 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen led the charge with a hard-hitting 105 runs off 39 balls, a superb innings filled with boundaries. Travis Head also dominated the bowlers with 76 runs off 40 balls, and Abhishek Sharma made a speedy contribution of 32 runs off 16 balls. KKR bowlers had no answer, as SRH batsmen found boundaries at will. Sunil Narine was the only bowler of note with 2/42 in 4 overs, whilst Vaibhav Arora got a wicket but conceded 39 runs. Andre Russell was particularly disappointing, conceding 34 runs in 2 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings

Playing to the record total, KKR faltered early and were bowled out for 168 in 18.4 overs. Manish Pandey was a top scorer with 37 runs off 23 balls, Harshit Rana made 34 runs off 21 balls, and Sunil Narine showed some fight with 31 runs off 16 balls, but not enough. The SRH bowlers executed their plans! Special mention to Jaydev Unadkat with 3/24 in 4 overs. Jaydev Unadkat starred with 3/24 in 4 overs, while both Eshan Malinga (3/31 in 3.4) and Harsh Dubey (3/34 in 4) ensured wickets fell consistently.

SRH vs KKR: Post Match Reactions

Heinrich Klaasen (Player of the Match): "It's been a tough season for me personally, although I have had a few good games. But I'm happy it came off today. The straights here are very short, so I changed my angle of trajectory to take advantage of that. I have spent a lot of time in the nets finding good areas to hit. My role is usually to come in around 6th or 7th over, and I just executed it today.

Pat Cummins (SRH Captain): What a great finish! Our batting was scary today. We didn't have a fact-infected period after the middle, and we bounced back really well. With the number of players we have, we were expecting to be in the finals. We have played about 20 players, and we are happy with the players we have and how the squad works, but we have lost a few to injury.

Harsh Dubey (SRH): I play to my strengths, although the strengths depend on the surface. My focus was to turn the ball better where I could and take the angles well. I have worked hard over the last 5 years, and I learn from coaches such as Sairaj Bahutule and Ashwin. Ranji matches help, but I am focusing on my white-ball performances.

Ajinkya Rahane (KKR captain): "They batted really well. We made some mistakes, and our poor execution hurt us. Their intent was fantastic. We didn't come together as a team, but we fought in the game, and it was good enough. No regrets, just learning and moving on."

During the DC vs KKR IPL 2024 match at Visakhapatnam, KKR scored 272/7 (20 overs) in the first innings. Although the opener Phil Salt was out for 18 runs, he had a 60-run first-wicket partnership with Sunil Narine, who scored 85 from 39 balls with the help of seven fours and seven sixes. SunRisers Hyderabad 277/3 vs Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad (IPL 2024)

During the SRH vs MI match in Hyderabad in the IPL 2024, SRH scored 277/3 in 20 overs. Although Mayank Agarwal (11) was dismissed cheaply after a 45-run opening partnership with Travis Head, Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen produced powerful batting performances to set up the giant IPL total.

Head scored 62 off 24 balls (nine fours and three sixes), and Sharma scored 63 off 23 balls (three fours and seven sixes). Markram scored 42 not out off 28 balls (two fours and one six), while Klaasen scored 80 not out off 34 balls (four fours and seven sixes).

While Head scored 76 off 40 balls (six fours and six sixes), Klaasen recorded a 17-ball 50 and later a 37-ball 100 runs. The South African also had another 83-run partnership with Ishan Kishan, who scored 29 runs. While Aniket Verma scored 12 not out off six balls, Klaasen was unbeaten for 105 runs in just 39 balls (seven fours and nine sixes), as SRH managed a huge IPL total in their last game of the season.

SunRisers Hyderabad 286/3 vs Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad (IPL 2025)

SRH also started the IPL 2025 season on a high note with a powerful batting performance as they set up the second-highest total in IPL history. Ishan Kishan slammed a 45-ball century after the openers Abhishek Sharma (24 off 11 balls; five fours) and Travis Head (67 off 31 balls; nine fours and three sixes) had important starts, including a quick-fire 45-run opening partnership in just 3.1 overs.

Later, Nitish Kumar Reddy (30 off 15 balls; four fours and one six) and Heinrich Klaasen (34 off 14 balls; five fours and one six) had some useful cameos to push the scoreboard to the second-highest IPL total – 286/3 in 20 overs.

SunRisers Hyderabad 287/3 vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru (IPL 2024)

SRH vs KKR: Match Preview

SRH has found form late in the season, having won three of their last four completed matches, including a 42-run victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru and a six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants with 10 balls to spare. SRH are still hitting the ball aggressively thanks to Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen, who have been incredible; however, SRH's bowling, particularly spin, has been average at best.

KKR's campaign has been hit-and-miss, with just two victories in their last three completed matches; KKR's match with RCB was washed out and may leave KKR rusty for this match-up. KKR's middle-order batting has blown hot and cold with Venkatesh Iyer and Ramandeep Singh, but a late charge for valuable runs has been made on the shoulders of Andre Russell and Rinku Singh; at least KKR's spin led by Varun Chakravarthy is the best and most economical in the IPL.

SRH vs KKR Probable Winners:

This will be Sunrisers Hyderabad's and Kolkata Knight Riders' final games in the 2025 IPL, and both teams will want to finish strong. However, SRH appears to be in a better position right now. They've won two straight since the break and are beginning to resemble the dominant team from 2024, which used to blow teams away through its explosive batting. That kind of gap can make it difficult to find rhythm, and with SRH looking trusting and in sync, they will have the advantage heading into this match. Considering the team combination, Kolkata Knight Riders is expected to win this match.
