Sunrisers Hyderabad had another rough outing in IPL 2025 as they lost four wickets inside the first six overs against Mumbai Indians. Playing at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, SRH ended the PowerPlay at a shocking 24/4 their fourth-lowest PowerPlay score in IPL history.

This was the third time ever that SRH lost four or more wickets inside the PowerPlay in the IPL:

  • 24/4 vs MI – April 23, 2025 (Hyderabad)
  • 25/4 vs PWI – April 17, 2013 (Pune)
  • 29/5 vs RR – April 27, 2013 (Jaipur)

Mumbai Indians made a statement from the first ball. Trent Boult struck early, removing Travis Head with his second ball. Then came a controversial moment, Ishan Kishan walked off after thinking he edged Deepak Chahar, but replays showed there was no contact. Still, the decision stood. Soon after, Abhishek Sharma fell to Boult, and Nitish Kumar Reddy was taken out by Chahar. Four wickets fell in quick time, and fans on social media didn’t hold back their reactions.

SRH’s Lowest Total in IPL: A Not-So-Proud Record

If you’re wondering what SRH’s lowest total ever in IPL is, it came against Mumbai Indians in 2019 when they were bowled out for just 96 runs at the same venue in Hyderabad. In that game, Alzarri Joseph tore through their lineup with a six-wicket haul. Sadly for SRH fans, it seems like history might be repeating itself.

SRH started IPL 2025 with hopes of improving on last year’s performance. But things have gone from bad to worse. With only two wins so far, the team looks out of rhythm. Their batting is over-reliant on Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Klaasen hasn’t fired, and Nitish Kumar Reddy has struggled. Their bowling isn’t helping either, with Shami and Cummins leaking runs and their spinners being the least effective in the tournament. Both teams wore black armbands to pay tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, showing solidarity beyond the game.

Uber's Reckless Gamble with Travis Head Backfires

Uber India recently released a cheeky new advertisement that features Australian batsman Travis Head, who is playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025. Nicknamed the "Hyderabaddie" in the ad, Travis Head becomes involved in jolly tricks—most famously, replacing a match banner that reads "Bengaluru vs Hyderabad" to "Royally Challenged Bengaluru." This wordplay masterpiece, clearly aimed at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), was meant to bring some humor and zing to Uber's promo campaign for its Moto variants. But it appears the joke did not land well with everyone.

watch video:

RCB Sues Uber for Legal Action

RCB was infuriated by the ad and sued Uber in a case filed with the Delhi High Court.

The franchise believes that the advertisement damages their brand reputation and is a misuse of trademark. RCB lawyers believe that evoking a parody of their rightful name, for the sake of humor, even, is going beyond the boundaries of freedom of expression and entering the domain of commercial ridicule. The case is being heard by the court as of now, and while Uber is contesting the ad as innocuous humor, the incident has raised broader discussion over whether ads are ethical in sporting brand names. Despite controversy, the ad has gone viral on social media with some supporters praising creativity and others criticizing disrespect.

Travis Head, Travis Head the hard-hitting Travis Head, has been quiet until now, but his playing-on-field acts of valour continue to win hearts. The episode is an indicator of the manner in which cricket and commercials are clashing in a dramatic way. Even if the court decides whether or not RCB has to pay, one thing is certain: the "Hyderabaddie" campaign has everyone's mouths watering.

The IPL is known for creating superstars and delivering unforgettable performances, but every season also sees its share of underwhelming displays — especially from those expected to shine. IPL 2025 has been no different. While some players have risen to the occasion, a few big names have failed to live up to their billing, letting down fans and franchises alike. From misfiring batters to bowlers lacking impact, these players have struggled to find form, consistency, or match-winning influence. With the playoff race heating up, their poor performances have become glaring. Here's a look at the IPL 2025 Flop XI — a team composed of some of the biggest disappointments so far, proving that reputation alone doesn't guarantee success in the IPL arena;

Top Order

The openers for Flop XI will be Quinton De Kock and Rohit Sharma. Quinton de Kock has played 7 matches in IPL 2025, scoring 143 runs at an average of 23.83 and a strike rate of 137.50. His highest score is an unbeaten 97, and he has registered one half-century so far, hitting 9 fours and 11 sixes across his innings. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has featured in 7 matches so far in IPL 2025 but has managed just one notable knock — an unbeaten 76*. With a total of 158 runs at an average of 26.33 and a strike rate of 154.90, his form has been underwhelming, despite his lone impactful innings. The number three spot will be of Rahul Tripathi has played 5 matches in IPL 2025, scoring just 55 runs at a disappointing average of 11.00 and a strike rate of 96.49. With a highest score of 23 and no major contributions, his form has been underwhelming, managing only 6 fours and 1 six across his outings.

Middle Order and All-rounders

The number four spot will be taken by Venkatesh Iyer. Iyer was one of the most expensive picks in the IPL auction, but his performances so far haven’t lived up to the hype. In 8 matches, he has played 6 innings, scoring 135 runs at an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 139.17. Despite one half-century, consistency is missing. The number five spot will be taken in by Nitish Kumar Reddy Reddy has failed to leave a strong impact in IPL 2025. In 7 games, he’s played 6 innings, scoring 131 runs at an average of 21.83 and a strike rate of 113.91. With a top score of just 32 and no half-centuries, consistency has been missing. The number six spot will be taken by Rishabh Pant. Pant was the most expensive player of IPL 2025 at ₹27 crores, has failed to justify his price tag. In 9 matches, he has scored just 106 runs across 8 innings, with a below-par average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 96.36. His only notable knock was a 63-run effort.

The number seven spot will be taken by Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 6 matches, he’s batted in 5 innings and managed to score just 41 runs, averaging a disappointing 8.20 with a strike rate of 100.00. With no fifties and only one six to his name, the Aussie star has struggled for form. The number eighth will be taken in by Liam Livingstone. Livingstone, too, hasn’t delivered up to expectations. In 7 matches and 6 innings, he’s managed only 87 runs, averaging 17.40 with a strike rate of 127.94. Despite having a fifty to his name, his overall returns have been underwhelming for a player of his caliber.

Bowlers

Mohammed Shami has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 7 matches, he has bowled 24 overs, conceding 261 runs and picking up just 5 wickets. With a high average of 52.20 and an economy rate of 10.87, his best figures stand at 2/28. He's struggled to make any real impact this season. Matheesha Pathirana has been expensive and inconsistent in IPL 2025. In 6 matches, he has bowled 21.4 overs, conceding 226 runs while taking 7 wickets. With an average of 32.28 and an economy rate of 10.43, his best figures are 2/28. Despite flashes of brilliance, he's struggled to maintain control and impact. Ravichandran Ashwin has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 7 matches, he has bowled 24 overs, conceding 223 runs and picking up just 5 wickets. With a high bowling average of 44.60 and an economy rate of 9.29, his best figures this season are 2/48, reflecting his underwhelming form.

A Father's Advice, A Cricket Player's Rejuvenation

Abhishek Sharma, Punjabi left-handed dynamo opener, is one of India's most promising young stars. But his rise to stardom wasn't overnight—it was guided by hard discipline and timely advice. The process begins with Yograj Singh, father of Indian cricket sensation Yuvraj Singh, who imparted an invaluable lesson to his son: "If you can subdue Abhishek's nightlife, he'll become a fantastic cricketer."

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Yuvraj followed that advice. He invited Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill to his house—not for comfort, but for toil. The environment was all about discipline: no celebration, no late-night revelry—severe focus and effort. Yograj even joked that Yuvraj had kept slippers in readiness to punish them if needed, comparing Abhishek to a "wild horse" who needed severe handling.

This was a period that was to become a turning point in Abhishek's life. It was not just about learning to play cricket, but about acquiring mental resilience, habit, and dedication—qualities that were to stand him in good stead throughout his professional life.

IPL Brilliance and International Breakthrough

After the lockdown, the harvest of this stringent grooming was apparent. Abhishek set ablaze the season of 2024 IPL as Sunrisers Hyderabad player. His aggressive and fearlessness approach allowed him to amass 484 runs from up to 16 matches with a stunning strike rate of over 204. His partnership with Travis Head stood as one of the standout pairings of the tournament.

SRH's former captain Kane Williamson has been effusive in praise of Abhishek's exceptional talent, describing him as a "natural ball timer" with the unusual ability to change shots in mid-air—a skill so second-order even at the international level.

Within a matter of time from his IPL heroics, Abhishek received an Indian T20 call-up. He carried his form in the national jersey as well, scoring two centuries in only 17 T20I matches, having a strike rate close to 194 and an average above 33.

Mumbai, often referred to as the city of dreams, is not just the home of Bollywood but also a buzzing hub for cricket fans, especially during the Indian Premier League (IPL). The city’s iconic Wankhede Stadium is where cinema meets sport, and match number 33 of IPL 2025 — the clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) was no exception.

While many celebrities made their way to the stadium to enjoy the electrifying atmosphere, it was actress Sonal Chauhan, who captured the spotlight. Her presence stirred nostalgia among fans who fondly remember her performances in popular Bollywood films. As she exited the venue after the match, Sonal was asked about her favourite cricketer — and contrary to previous rumours linking her to KL Rahul, the actress confidently named Rohit Sharma as her all-time favourite.

Sonal’s show of support for the Mumbai Indians came on a night when Rohit Sharma once again proved why he’s a fan favourite. The former MI captain delivered a stunning performance, becoming only the fourth player in IPL history to hit 100 sixes at a single venue and the second MI player after Kieron Pollard to cross 250 sixes for the franchise. His brilliant display added to the excitement of the match and further won the hearts of fans and celebrities alike.

Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey, widely recognized for his role in ‘12th Fail,’ was in attendance during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). The match was played on Thursday, April 17, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Batting first, SRH posted 162/5 in 20 overs. Opener Abhishek Sharma top-scored with 40 runs off 28 balls. In response, MI comfortably chased down the target, securing a four-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare.

Meanwhile, before the match, MI’s veteran batter Rohit Sharma was honored with a special memento by BCCI President Roger Binny for being one of the few players to feature in every IPL season since its inception in 2008. Vikrant Massey shared a video of the moment on his Instagram Stories, calling Rohit his hero.

Rohit Sharma's struggles with the bat continue in IPL 2025

In the match against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rohit Sharma once again failed to capitalize on a promising start, getting dismissed for 26 off 16 balls, which included three sixes.

Former India player Aakash Chopra has wondered when Rohit Sharma would be back to his destructive best in IPL 2025. He noted that the Mumbai Indians (MI) opener got off to a flying start in their clash against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) but couldn't convert it into a substantial innings.

SRH set MI a 163-run target in Match 33 of IPL 2025 in Mumbai on Thursday, April 17. Rohit scored 26 runs off 16 deliveries in the chase as the home team achieved the target with four wickets and 11 balls to spare. Reflecting on MI's chase in their IPL 2025 clash against SRH, Chopra pointed out that Rohit got dismissed when he seemed headed to a big score.

In Mumbai's batting, there was a question again. Mumbai cha raja, kab bajayega baaja? That is a big question, but it's not happening. He got a six off the edge, and then he hit two excellent sixes. It seemed like things were going fine, and then he got out to a full toss," he said (4:00) in a video shared on his YouTube channel 'Aakash Chopra'.

"I am still surprised" - Aakash Chopra questions Hardik Pandya's captaincy in MI's IPL 2025 win vs SRH

Reflecting on the Mumbai Indians' bowling in their IPL 2025 clash against the SunRisers Hyderabad, Aakash Chopra praised Will Jacks (2/14 in three overs) for delivering a potent spell, but questioned Hardik Pandya for not using his spinners effectively.

"Will Jacks came in bowling. Where there is a will, there is a way. He picked up wickets. However, I am still surprised. It was a spin-friendly pitch and the ball was getting stuck, but Will Jacks didn't bowl his full quota of overs despite picking up two wickets, and (Mitchell) Santner bowled just one over," he said in the same video.

The analyst pointed out that while Jacks and Mitchell Santner (0/8 in 1 over) together bowled only four overs, the expensive Deepak Chahar and Hardik bowled their full quota."Two fast bowlers got hit, one was Deepak Chahar and the other was Hardik Pandya. Both conceded more than 40 runs, and they bowled four overs apiece. What happened wasn't understandable. Fours weren't hit off 15 full tosses," Chopra observed.
