In this match, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by 14 runs. In this match, Kolkata Knight Riders had set a challenge of 205 runs in front of Delhi Capitals. In response, Delhi Capitals could only score 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

In this match, Kolkata Knight Riders lost the toss and were asked to bat first. The Kolkata team had a great start, and the pair of Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz added 48 runs in three overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz played an innings of 26 runs in 12 balls, including five fours and a six. Apart from this, Sunil Narine scored 27 runs in 16 balls. Captain Ajinkya Rahane played an innings of 26 runs in 14 balls.

After this, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who came to bat, played an innings of 44 runs in 32 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. For the Delhi Capitals team, Mitchell Starc took three wickets by scoring 43 runs in four overs. Apart from this, Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel also got two wickets each.

Delhi's batting flopped in the run chase

Delhi Capitals' team, which came out to chase the target of 205 runs, did not have a special start, and Abhishek Poral returned to the pavilion after scoring four runs on the second ball itself. Karun Nair could also score only 15 runs in 13 balls. And today, KL Rahul also got run out after scoring seven runs in five balls. But after this, Faf Duplessis and captain Axar Patel made a great partnership.

Duplessis scored 62 runs in 45 balls with the help of 7 fours and two sixes. On the other hand, Captain Axar Patel scored 43 runs in 23 balls, which included four fours and three sixes. Vipraaj Nigam tried his best to win the match by scoring 38 runs in 19 balls, but in the end, he also failed. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a 14-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) in an exhilarating IPL 2025 Match 48 on April 29, 2025, at Arun Jaitley Stadium. At a posted trot of 204/9 from KKR, DC managed to chase 190 with all effort but ultimately fell short when the decisive bowling pressure came in from KKR. Let's check why DC lost this game.

The first reason is that DC could not defend a competitive total, which was 204/9, by way of poor bowling and no breakthroughs made at all. KKR's batsmen, led by Raghuvanshi (66), Rinku Singh, and Sunil Narine, had almost demoralized the bowling attack of Mitchell Starc (3/43) and Vipuraj Nigam (2/41) with their onslaught during the powerplay and the middle overs thanks to 44 off 32 deliveries from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and 36 off 25 balls from Rinku Singh. DC had some low contributions from its bowlers, such as Mitchell Starc (3/43) and Vipuraj Nigam (2/41). While DC had not come to chase a target of that magnitude, there were questions regarding KKR's attunement to Indian conditions in getting a score such as that.

A perplexing fight, though, with the quick-fire abs of Axar Patel (43 off 23) and Vipuraj Nigam (38 off 19), with some fight back by turning pretty much—I feel it's only towards the end that they're not going to be able to up the ante—caused KKR's death bowling - Varun specifically (2/39) and Vaibhav Arora (1/19)—and sealed an interesting but doomed run chase.

1. Inconsistent Top-Order Performance

While Faf du Plessis offered a good start with a stylish 62 off 45 balls, there was no support from the rest of Delhi's top-order batting. The early wickets and lack of solid partnerships in the powerplay put pressure on the middle order to try and repair the slow start. This inconsistency at the top hindered the momentum of the Capitals in a chase of over 200, as they found themselves in a catch-up for the rest of their innings.

2. Kolkata's Bowling Impact in Crucial Moments

KKR bowlers at key moments worked with a will for Sunil Narine (3/29) to wrest key breakthroughs. Narine broke the middle order's back while containing runs strongly in the middle. Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora lent timely wickets and disciplined spells, all putting a wrench in Delhi's efforts to accelerate, especially from the moment the asking rate leaped sharply in the death overs.

3. Expensive Bowling Despite Wicket-Taking

Delhi bowlers Mitchell Starc and Vipraj Nigam took two very vital wickets but gave away runs at an expensive rate-Starc 43 runs and Nigam 41 runs. Those overcosting Delhi would allow KKR to put up the stiff 204/9 run target. The inability to control the scoring, especially in the death overs, meant that Delhi’s batters had a stiffer target than ideal, ultimately proving too much to overcome despite a strong fightback.

In Match 48 of IPL 2025, held at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, KKR had to display genuine grit to secure a 14-run win over DC on April 29, 2025. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) scored 204/9, a total that Delhi Capitals (DC) could only chase down to 190/9 after a spirited attempt. Sunil Narine contributed significantly to KKR's cause with an all-around performance that gave him the Player of the Match award and enhanced KKR's playoff possibilities.

Kolkata Knight Riders Innings

KKR, electing to bat first, set a target of 205 runs, finishing at 204/9. Angkrish Raghuvanshi gave a steady start with 44 off 32 balls, while Rinku Singh kept the momentum going with an explosive 36 off 25 balls. Despite the fall of regular wickets, Narine added impetus with a quickfire 27 runs off 16 balls, injecting momentum despite regular wickets. Mitchell Starc (3/43) and Axar Patel (2/27) led with impressive contributions from Vipuraj Nigam (2/41) but ensured a fighting total on a batting-friendly Delhi pitch, or at least, KKR's last bits, including Andre Russell (15 off 8).

Delhi Capitals Innings

The DC managed a good fight but in the end got knocked out for 190 at the loss of 9 wickets, which made the distance separating them from victory just 14 runs. Faf du Plessis was the star with 62 off 45 balls, bringing DC into the game. There was also Axar Patel scoring 43 off 23 balls toward the end. Vipuraj Nigam added 38 off 19 balls at the tail end, but the middle order went crumbling under pressure. The hosts' bowlers Sunil Narine (3/29) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/39) were ably supported by Vaibhav (1/19), restricting DC despite their effort on a high-scoring track.

DC vs KKR: Post Match Reactions

Andre Russell (KKR): Russell celebrates while on his birthday, saying, “Team members wanted to give this win as a cross to me because nothing beats a win as an awesome IPL gift!” He praised an over in which all things began to change rapidly following two wickets, of Warden and then of du Plessis: “Sunil, having one great over, instilled the momentum; the bowlers, with Russell taking yorkers and K. Chakaravarty's leg spin, bowled so well against Delhi, the new 15-to-20-run differential inflicted on us during the power play proven to be so heavily over."

Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals Captain): Feeling that they gave 15 or so more runs in the powerplay and misreading the final chase, Patel said, "Vipul came in and made 38 off 19, and I subsequently took up the 43 off 23 from there." As she had felt any close losses being painful this year, she sighed of needing a partnership to chase 205 on that surface.

Ajinkya Rahane (KKR Captain): Rahane, who had a mild knock he had seen toed into, was full of praise, saying, "I will be fine; Sunil bowled two good overs post-13 overs and removed Rahul Tewatia and Vipul." From the other side, he rued how he might probably have praised the top score of 204: "Very honestly, that was 15 runs short. In tight-spell-killing attacks, Russell's yorker-stuffed over and Anukul Roy were key on that track."

Sunil Narine (Player of the Match): Praising the team, he said, "Gurbaz's early 20s, Rahane's 30s, and Rinku's 36 set the tone." About his bowling effort, he said, I struggled early but backed myself to return, nailing key overs to dismiss du Plessis and Patel - happy to contribute!"

Drama Begins Before the First Ball! Narine’s Bat Gets Special Attention

In a match for the ages during an IPL 2025 fixture on April 15, the Punjab Kings engineered one of the greatest upsets in tournament history by defending a record-low total of 111 against the perennially high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). It was not all about the play on the field, though. A strange pre-match incident relating to Sunil Narine's bat check turned viral and served to add another layer of drama to an already dramatic evening.

As the batsmen prepared to pursue Punjab's humble total, Sunil Narine found himself involved in a routine bat-check by the umpires. The whole scenario, which was caught on camera, involved the officials examining Narine's bat meticulously. Social media viewers promptly converted the incident into a meme session, facetiously captioning it "Sunil Narayan ki chori pakdi gayi"—implying in jest that he may have been attempting to hide a favorable bat.

While the bat was declared legal and Narine stepped into the field, what ensued was much more surprising. Pursuing only 112 runs, KKR began well and were sailing at 71/3. But then suddenly came a dramatic collapse. KKR lost 7 wickets for a mere 24 runs, getting bowled out for 95 in 15.1 overs. Punjab's bowlers, particularly Yuzvendra Chahal (4/28) and Marco Jansen (3/17), bowled masterfully to write history

The match will be remembered not just for the lowest successful defense in IPL history, but also for its quirky moments such as Narine's bat inspection that provided a laugh to the fans before the shock.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are preparing to take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) tomorrow (April 15) at Mullanpur Stadium. KKR and PBKS, both with 6 points, are currently in fifth and sixth place, respectively. KKR, with a slightly better net run rate, holds its spot over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 points table. Though PBKS played a game less than KKR— KKR with 6 points after playing 6, and PBKS with 6 points after playing 5. A win over the defending champion will take the Punjab-based team to a higher position on the ladder.

KKR have so far experienced a bumpy road with 3 defeats. To hoist the trophy in back-to-back seasons, they need to show their team bonding and a performance as a unit on the field. KKR, on their social media platforms, shared some moments from their practice session. A video with the caption "Gurbaz: Making of a Mystery Spinner" shows Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz teaming up with Sunil Narine and bowling in the net.

Narine started his cricket career as a mystery spinner. Later, he developed his batting skills, and now he is a regular opening batter for KKR. But his aura as a spinner still lives on. New generation players try to replicate the West Indian cricketer's bowling action, the same we can see in the video with Gurbaz.

Watch the video here;

Rahmanullah Gurbaz is waiting for his turn in the first XI

Afghanistan's star opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has recently been seen honing his spin bowling skills in the nets, drawing inspiration from none other than Sunil Narine. Observing Narine’s unique grip and bowling action closely, Gurbaz decided to experiment with his own version of spin, adding a new dimension to his cricketing skillset. Although yet to make his first appearance in IPL 2025 for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the young batter is making the most of his time in training sessions.

Gurbaz has been a part of the KKR setup since 2023. That season marked his best IPL performance so far, where he amassed 227 runs across 11 innings. However, the following year saw limited opportunities, with the Afghan opener getting to play just two innings and scoring 62 runs. Across his IPL journey with KKR, Gurbaz has accumulated 289 runs from 13 innings—a promising record that he’ll look to build upon in the current season.

IPL 2025, Match 21: KKR vs LSG Dream11 Top Captains And Vice-captains

Top 3 Captain choices

Nicholas Pooran: Caribbean cricketer Nicholas Pooran has proven himself one of the most dangerous batters with his strong six-hitting abilities. He has scored 75, 70, 44, and 12 runs this season and also holds the record for most sixes in this IPL season with 16 sixes.

Mitchell Marsh: In the ongoing IPL season, Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh scored 72, 52, 0, and 60 runs, respectively. He is providing fiery starts with a strike rate of 160+.

Varun Chakravarthy: Leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy is a key name in the KKR squad, who is currently in dream form with the ball. He has taken six wickets in four matches this IPL season, including taking three wickets in their last game against SunRisers Hyderabad.

Top 3 Vice-captain choices

Sunil Narine: Caribbean cricketer Sunil Narine is still fighting hard to find his form. In this IPL season, his best performance is a 44-run knock as an opener in the first match of the tournament. He has also picked up two wickets in three matches this season.

Andre Russell: Another KKR all-rounder Andre Russell hasn't produced his fiery batting performance yet as he hasn't managed double-digit scores in three innings of this tournament. However, in the last two games, Russell picked up two wickets each.

Shardul Thakur: While KKR's top-order batting is struggling, LSG pacer Shardul Thakur will have an important role with the new ball. He has already taken seven wickets in four matches in the IPL 2025, including picking up two wickets in his first over of their first two matches of the season.

<![CDATA[Despite thumping win over SRH, kKR should think about 2 alternatives]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/despite-thumping-win-over-srh-kkr-should-think-about-2-alternatives/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/despite-thumping-win-over-srh-kkr-should-think-about-2-alternatives/ Fri, 04 Apr 2025 06:07:08 GMT

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), IPL 2025: A pure authoritative win for Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens against Sunrisers Hyderabad. From batting to bowling, KKR dominated SRH with ease and resulted in a win by an 80-run margin. KKR put a standout 200 runs on the scoreboard, which proved enough to outclass the batting lineup, which has some batting powerhouses like Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen. Despite this thumping victory, KKR team management should rethink their team lineup, as some of their players are suffering from inconsistency, which can prove fatal for the team later.

The opening pair

Quinton de Kock, a full-time opener, has already passed through his prime days. The 97 not out against Rajasthan Royals was a glimpse of his talent. But will he be able to maintain his form? So far, the answer is not satisfying. Last night against SRH, the South African keeper went back to the pavilion after scoring only 1. In total, he scored 103 runs in 4 games, supported by a 97* run knock.

The same story with the other opener, Sunil Narine, also. After scoring a 44 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Narine's bat remained cold. In 3 matches he got only 89 runs as a batsman. For a solid innings foundation, an in-form opening pair any day can prove useful.

Andre Russell

The big hitter from the West Indies is now 36 and away from his prime days. It's been a long time since the crowd witnessed a ruling innings by the Caribbean. In this season with Kolkata Knight Riders, Russell scored only 10 runs in 3 innings, and with the ball, he took 4 wickets in 2 wickets. KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane likes to use Russell as an occasional bowler. Russell needs to rise again to provide something for the legacy he built throughout his career.

Sunil Narine's batting troubles continued as he was bowled early in Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 15th match of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Batting in the opening slot, Narine made 7 runs off 7 balls, including a six, before being bowled by a masterful ball from Mohammed Shami in the third over.

Sunil Narine Dismissed Early

Shami served a timely yorker outside off-stump on the third delivery of the over. Narine, in an attempt to play for room, stepped back and attempted to cut the ball to the off-side. But the ball hit an edge before his bat could land on the ground. Wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen reacted quickly, diving to the right to take a wonderful catch.

Although there was a definite edge, Narine seemed to be in a trance. The doubt came because his bat hit the ground around the same time as the ball hit the edge.

Although KKR lost initial momentum, they managed to post a decent score of 200/6 in 20 overs, giving their bowlers a good target to defend.

Top 3 Captain choices

Travis Head: Australian cricketer Travis Head is one of the most dangerous batters, who can change the game with his ability. Despite some challenges, Head has provided good starts for his team in the early IPL 2025 by scoring 67, 47, and 22 runs, respectively.

Sunil Narine: Caribbean all-rounder Sunil Narine is a very important name for KKR, who plays an important role for his franchise with his effective bowling and powerplay-friendly opening batting. He scored 44 runs in the season opener but still needs to find his top form, which he can bring in the upcoming fixtures.

Varun Chakravarthy: As KKR are returning to the Eden Gardens, Varun Chakravarthy can play an important role in the important match against SRH.

Top 3 Vice-captain choices

Heinrich Klaasen: South African middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen is a dangerous and consistent batter. He scored 34, 26, and 32 runs in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Quinton de Kock: Former South African cricketer Quinton de Kock has to play a very crucial role for the defending champions. Although he was dismissed twice in single digits in early IPL 2025, he also scored a match-winning 97 not out against Rajasthan Royals.

Pat Cummins: While SRH are struggling, captain Pat Cummins can inspire his team, which he does regularly. Apart from his effective pace bowling, Cummins can make a significant contribution with the bat as a cameo in the lower order.
